Myers , P . M ., P . G . D . C . W . AL , and the minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed . The business on the summons was very heavy . The ballot was
taken for Mr . C . L . Paine , and , proving favourable , he was initiated by the VV . AI . There were two passings , the ceremonies being performed respectively by the W . M . and Bro . F . Stretch , I . P . M . Then followed three raisings , the ceremonies being performed by Bros . Stretch , I . P . M . ; C E . Towell , P . M . ; and G . S . Smith , P . M ., P . G . Org ., respectively . The officers of the lodge are to be highly

Lodge was opened , and Messrs . E . Alartin and G . Davis , having been unanimously approved by ballot , were impressively initiated by the W . AL , the ancient charge being delivered by the I . P . M . Correspondence was read , and the lodge was closed . After an excellent repast , the usual toasts were honoured . ^ Bro . D . D . Mercer , P . G . P .. replying for "The Grand
Officers , " said that whilst they had such men as the Earl of Lathom and the Earl of Alount Edgumbe , Freemasonry must maintain its high position . The Grand Officers not onl y tried to promote Freemasonry in general by giving up a large amount of time , but they also gave a large amount of their substance to assist in maintaining the different Institutions in connection with the Fraternity . They were
recompensed by the kind reception g iven the toast , which snowed that their efforts were appreciated . ¦ . n 0- Howard H . Room , Prov . G . Sec , in response for i he Prov . Grand Officers , " . said the Prov . Grand Alaster , Lord George Hamilton , wrote lo him , and asked him for eelinite information about the lodges . Since then the rov . Grand Master ' s engagements had been so numerous , and
he had not been able to fulfil the desire of his heart , ™ t as soon as the opportunity occurred he would take great Pleasure in coming amongst them . Speaking personally , one of his great privileges was to respond for that toast . LEEDS . Philanthropic Lodge ( No . 304 ) . —The year 1 S 94 is the centenary year of this lodge , and the installation of Bro . George Austin Suddick as Worshipful Alaster of the lodge took place on Wednesday , the 31 st ult . At the Board of Installed Masters there were present 45 Masters , Past Alasters , and members of Grand and Provincial Grand
Lodge—the largest number ever assembled in the city of Leeds on a similar occasion . The D . P . G . AL , Bro . Henry Smith , P . G . D . of Eng . ; Bro . Bateman Fox , Chairman of the Charity Committee ; Bro . VV . F . Smithson ; Bro . VV . O . Clough , M . P . ; Bro . Thos . Woods , P . AI . 44 S ; and other influential brethren attended the installation . The Festival of St . John the Evangalist was afterwards celebrated , when 110 brethren and their guests attended .
The menu card , containing portraits of all the officers of the lodge , were very mi'ch admired . The portraits were from negatives taken for the purpose by the S . W ., Bro . Geo . Hainsworth , who although an amateur , evilently produces work equal to any professional . The services of a glee party specially engaged from Halifax added much to the harmony and enjoyment of the evening .
LIVERPOOL . Merchants Lodge ( No . 241 ) . —The ordinary meeting was held on Tuesday , the Gth inst ., at the Masonic Hall , Hope-street , when there was a large attendance of Past Alasters , members , and visitors . The ceremonies of the First and Third Degrees were given in a most impressive manner by the W . AL , Bro . J . VVest ; for the latter Degree
six candidates presented themselves , and a goodly number were proposed for initiation at the next meeting . On completion of the ordinary business , the brethren adjourned to the banquet hall , where an excellent supper was provided by Bro . R . Capper . The cloth being removed , the customary toasts were heartily given and received , interspersed with a selection by
musical brethren . During the period an incident of unusual interest took place , viz ., the presenting of a full suit of Provincial Grand Lodge clothing , in a leather case , with suitable inscription , to Bro . T . Salter , P . AL , P . P . G . D ., by the W . AL , on behalf of the brethren of the lodge . Bro . VVest , in asking Bro . Salter ' s acceptance of the testimonial , referred in most eulogistic terms to Bro . Salter ,
who had been their Charity Representative for so many years , during which time he had travelled to and fro in that province to represent any case in connection with No . 241 , and invariably was successful in advocating the respective cases of Charity . Bro . Salter , having risen to respond , was received most enthusiastically , and replied in suitable terms , saying he hoped to live to wear out thc clothing in the good cause . This ceremony brought a pleasant evening to a close .
Fairfield Lodge ( No . 2390 ) . —The annual installation meeting of the above lodge took place on Tuesday , the Gth inst ., when Bro . VV . J . Barrett , the retiring VV . Newall Lodge ( No . 1134 ) . —Under most favourable circumstances , tne regular meeting of this lod ^ e wa s held on Tuesday , the Gth inst ., at Freemasons' Hall , Cooper-street , when there was the largest gathering of members and visitors that has been for many years . Of course , the removal to the above premises is more congenial to all the members , and the fact is clear , for there were
three very suitable and most desrrable candidates for initiation . The lodge was opened by Bro . Ben . Eckersley , W . M . The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed . 'The candidates had been balloted for at the previous meeting . Bros . John Holroyd , P . M ., P . P . G . S . of W . j John Waring , P . M ., " Sec . ; and A . H . Duffin , P . M ., performed the ceremonies respectively . They were all three in
grand form , and each ceremony was admirably rendered , not only by the acting W . M ., but every officer alike . It was such a treat as can seldom be seen , more especially as it was the first working night after the installation . We would like to especially mention Bro . R . VV . Alartin , J . Burke , one ot the founders of the lodge and an enthusiastic Mason , proposed in graceful terms " The Health of the VVorshipful Alaster , " bearing testimony to
the energy and zeal Bro . Deer had displayed in the other offices he had occupied in connection with the lodge . That was an augury , he felt sure , that the high ollice to which he had been installed that day would be tilled in a perfect manner . The W . AL replied in a neat and well-set speech , and promised to carry out the duties of the office to which hc had been elected with all the ability and assiduity he could command .

Officers , " said that whilst they had such men as the Earl of Lathom and the Earl of Alount Edgumbe , Freemasonry must maintain its high position . The Grand Officers not onl y tried to promote Freemasonry in general by giving up a large amount of time , but they also gave a large amount of their substance to assist in maintaining the different Institutions in connection with the Fraternity . They were
recompensed by the kind reception g iven the toast , which snowed that their efforts were appreciated . ¦ . n 0- Howard H . Room , Prov . G . Sec , in response for i he Prov . Grand Officers , " . said the Prov . Grand Alaster , Lord George Hamilton , wrote lo him , and asked him for eelinite information about the lodges . Since then the rov . Grand Master ' s engagements had been so numerous , and
he had not been able to fulfil the desire of his heart , ™ t as soon as the opportunity occurred he would take great Pleasure in coming amongst them . Speaking personally , one of his great privileges was to respond for that toast . LEEDS . Philanthropic Lodge ( No . 304 ) . —The year 1 S 94 is the centenary year of this lodge , and the installation of Bro . George Austin Suddick as Worshipful Alaster of the lodge took place on Wednesday , the 31 st ult . At the Board of Installed Masters there were present 45 Masters , Past Alasters , and members of Grand and Provincial Grand
Lodge—the largest number ever assembled in the city of Leeds on a similar occasion . The D . P . G . AL , Bro . Henry Smith , P . G . D . of Eng . ; Bro . Bateman Fox , Chairman of the Charity Committee ; Bro . VV . F . Smithson ; Bro . VV . O . Clough , M . P . ; Bro . Thos . Woods , P . AI . 44 S ; and other influential brethren attended the installation . The Festival of St . John the Evangalist was afterwards celebrated , when 110 brethren and their guests attended .
The menu card , containing portraits of all the officers of the lodge , were very mi'ch admired . The portraits were from negatives taken for the purpose by the S . W ., Bro . Geo . Hainsworth , who although an amateur , evilently produces work equal to any professional . The services of a glee party specially engaged from Halifax added much to the harmony and enjoyment of the evening .
LIVERPOOL . Merchants Lodge ( No . 241 ) . —The ordinary meeting was held on Tuesday , the Gth inst ., at the Masonic Hall , Hope-street , when there was a large attendance of Past Alasters , members , and visitors . The ceremonies of the First and Third Degrees were given in a most impressive manner by the W . AL , Bro . J . VVest ; for the latter Degree
six candidates presented themselves , and a goodly number were proposed for initiation at the next meeting . On completion of the ordinary business , the brethren adjourned to the banquet hall , where an excellent supper was provided by Bro . R . Capper . The cloth being removed , the customary toasts were heartily given and received , interspersed with a selection by
musical brethren . During the period an incident of unusual interest took place , viz ., the presenting of a full suit of Provincial Grand Lodge clothing , in a leather case , with suitable inscription , to Bro . T . Salter , P . AL , P . P . G . D ., by the W . AL , on behalf of the brethren of the lodge . Bro . VVest , in asking Bro . Salter ' s acceptance of the testimonial , referred in most eulogistic terms to Bro . Salter ,
who had been their Charity Representative for so many years , during which time he had travelled to and fro in that province to represent any case in connection with No . 241 , and invariably was successful in advocating the respective cases of Charity . Bro . Salter , having risen to respond , was received most enthusiastically , and replied in suitable terms , saying he hoped to live to wear out thc clothing in the good cause . This ceremony brought a pleasant evening to a close .

Of course , the removal to the above premises is more congenial to all the members , and the fact is clear , for there were
three very suitable and most desrrable candidates for initiation . The lodge was opened by Bro . Ben . Eckersley , W . M . The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed . 'The candidates had been balloted for at the previous meeting . Bros . John Holroyd , P . M ., P . P . G . S . of W . j John Waring , P . M ., " Sec . ; and A . H . Duffin , P . M ., performed the ceremonies respectively . They were all three in
grand form , and each ceremony was admirably rendered , not only by the acting W . M ., but every officer alike . Burke , one ot the founders of the lodge and an enthusiastic Mason , proposed in graceful terms " The Health of the VVorshipful Alaster , " bearing testimony to
the energy and zeal Bro . Deer had displayed in the other offices he had occupied in connection with the lodge . That was an augury , he felt sure , that the high ollice to which he had been installed that day would be tilled in a perfect manner . The W . AL replied in a neat and well-set speech , and promised to carry out the duties of the office to which hc had been elected with all the ability and assiduity he could command .
" Ihe Health of Bro . New , the I . P . AI ., " was cordially submitted by Bro . G . F . Kendall , and the occasion taken to present Bro . New with a handsome Past Master's jewel .
