After speaking of the excellent government of the Grand Lodge and the great interest the Duke of Connaught took in the Province , he said that for his own part he had endeavoured to follow in the Masonic traditions he had received from his immediate predecessor , the late and lamented Bro . J . Henderson Scott . The latter came from

an old Masonic family , and he ( Bro . Ford ) whose family had been closely associated with Freemasonry for a hundred years , would make it his earnest endeavour to maintain those principles of the Craft which they all so highly honoured . Assisted "shoulder to shoulder" by his fellow officers , his aim would be to uphold tbe dignity and stability of the Order throughout the Province . He

Beaumont , in acknowledgment of the presentation , said he had received so much kindness at the hands of the brethren of the lodge that he could not find words to thank them sufficiently for the additional mask of their esteem

conveyed by the presentation to his little son . , Jones , 511 . The lodge having been opened , the ballot was taken for Mr . R . L . Pollard , and proving unanimous , he , with Mr . H . G . Baker , already approved , were initiated . Bros . j . O . Widger and W . Davidson were passed , and Bro . Hammond raised . The whole of the work was done by the W . M . and his officers with marvellous perfection , while

the choir , strengthened by recruits , and admirably selected and trained by Bro . Tyler , sang the incidental anthem and responses splendidly . Bro . Palmer , P . M ., who has worked most indefatigably to render the collection for Earl Amherst ' s scheme _ of raising £ 1000 for the forthcoming Girls' School Festival successful , announced the subscriptions amounted to over- £ 50 , which he considered creditable

to the lodge . The lodge was then closed . On assembling round the social board , the W . M . gave the usual loyal and Grand Lodge toasts , and then proposed that of " The Visitors , " and , in so doing , dwelt eloquently onthe necessity of the good feeling that had for so long existed between the Pattison Lodge and its neighbours of the province and the Metropolis being , if possible , more

closely cemented , and that they might shortly be united under one roof , namely , in the handsome Masonic Temple now in course of erection at Plumstead . . Bro . Milbourne , in response , expressed his deli ght at witnessing the admirable manner in which the ceremonies had been worked , and also at the adjuncts . If there had been any cloud between the Union Waterloo and the

Pattison , it was without Irs knowledge , and was most certainl y a misrepresentation . The grand meeting he had witnessed that night proved to him that the name of brother amongst Masons was something more than a name . Bro . Naylor always received a kind and hearty reception whenever he visited the Pattison Lodge , and felt sure that the good feeling that had so long existed between lli »

Nelson and the Pattison would not be clouded by any misunderstanding . Bro . Maule had never witnessed such an impressive service as the ceremonies of that night ; it must have been deeply impressed in the hearts and minds of all present not only on the candidates , but also on the members and visitors present .

Bro . Wood thanked the W . M . and brelhren for the hearty reception of the toast . So far as the working was concerned , little had been left for him to say in the way of praise ; he , however , found it very different from the working in Yorkshire , especially with regard to the musical service ,- nevertheless , it had afforded him a great Masonic and musical treat , and for that he thanked them . He was

glad to hear that they were building a Masonic Temple in their midst , because he had experienced the advantages arising from such an institution . They had a temple at Sheffield in which four lod ges met , and it did not seem as if they were individual lodges , but one family bound together by the close connection of locality into one great lodge , living , although Masonically divided by number

, with one great desire , namely , the welfare of the Craft and the happiness of the brethren generally . They had an excellent dining room attached to the hall , which would accommodate eighty comfortably , and which was also used for dancing . That , he considered , and indeed experience had proved it , to be a valuable adjunct to the success of the lodges , for he found that those ladies

whose husbands were not Masons were desirous of being present , and so made , as ladies can do , their husbands join the Craft , so that they might have an opportunity of joining the pleasant meetings reserved for the fair sex whose husbands were Masons . It also had this desideratum , that the wives of Masons did riot find fault if the brothers were a little late , providing they shared the pleasures of

the occasion ; so that he could , from experience , heartily commend their efforts in the direction of their temple work . He again thanked them , and could insure any of the brethren a hearty reception should they ever come to any of the Sheffield lodges . Bro . Butler then clearly explained a rather objectionable clause in the Temple Associates Article , and 180 shares were at once taken up , making 1500 shares already taken . Bros . Doddrell and Syer also responded , and then " The

Initiates " were toasted , and returned thanks . The Worshipful Master responded to an enthusiastic reception of his health , and soon after the lodge was closed . ' The harmony was complete , a string band , formed of the choir , played the slow movement in Haydn ' s "Surprise " grandly . Bro . Walker also played a solo on the ' cello very finely ; in fact , the social board of the lodge is more remarkable for its music than for its respect to the timehonoured tradition of the Craft , at least as far as the toasts are concerned .

MIRFIELD . —Mirfield Lodge ( No . 1102 ) . —The last regular meeting was held on Friday , the 2 nd inst ., in the New Masonic Hall , King-street . Bro . Walter Bailey , W . M ., presided , assisted by Bros . F . H . Hare , S . VV . ; W . Wilson , J . W . ; Lang , P . M ., Treas . ; F . J . Crowther , Sec ; J . Womack , S . D . ; T . W . SproulleJ . D . ; W . Beaumont ,

M . ; Joshua Milner , Stwd . j and W . H . Wilkinson . The minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed ,

and the revised by-laws were submitted , which , on the motion of Bro . John Barker , seconded by Bro . J . K . I bbersqn , were accepted and confirmed . After a candidate for initiation had been proposed , the lodge was closed , and the brethren sat down to a sli ght refreshment under the presidency of the VV . M .

MANCHESTER . —St . David ' s Lodge ( No . 1147 ) . —The first meeting since Bro . Christopher Wren's installation took place oa Thursday , the Sth inst ., in the Freemasons' Hall , Cooper-street , when there were present Bros . Christopher Wren , W . M . j R . Vawser , I . P . The ballot was taken tor Mr . E . Llewellyn Jones , and was announced favourable , after which Bro . E . A . Locke was raised to the Third Degree by Bro . Vawser , I . P . M . Mr .

Jones having been initiated by the W . M ., and there being no further business , the lodge was closed . The brethren subsequentl y supped together , after which the usual toasts were proposed . Bro . T . Elliott , P . M ., who proposed the toast of "The Initiate , Bro . Jones , " spoke of the high estimation in which his father , the late Bro . Ellis Jones , P . P . G . T ., was held , not only in the St . David's Lodtre . but in the lodges in

and around Manchester , and trusted his son would worth'V follow in his father ' s footsteps , and attain an equally exalted position . Bro . Jones returned thanks in appropriate terms . „ " The Health of Bro . Locke , the Newly-rjaised Brother , was also proposed and responded to . oM In proposing " The Health of Bro . Ishmael Davies , rU "' and Treas ., " Bro . Frank Griffin , P . M ., referred in feeling terms to his long illness , which had , unfortunately , . ?"; " vented his attending the lodge at the last two meetings

He

no better hope for his infant son than that he might become as good a man and Mason as his father . Bro . Beaumont , in acknowledgment of the presentation , said he had received so much kindness at the hands of the brethren of the lodge that he could not find words to thank them sufficiently for the additional mask of their esteem

conveyed by the presentation to his little son . He should always remember their kindness with gratitude ,. and trusted they would not measure his feelings of pleasure by the brief and inadequate response which he made to them . The Tyler's toast completed the post-prandial proceedings . During the evening the various speeches were agreeably

T ., was held , not only in the St . David's Lodtre . but in the lodges in

and around Manchester , and trusted his son would worth'V follow in his father ' s footsteps , and attain an equally exalted position . Bro .
