Reports Of Masonic Meetings.

B . S . Bailey , Stwd . ; C . L . Mason , I . P . M ., P . P . G . Treas . ; R . Craig , P . M ., P . P . G . D . ; Rev . J . H . Evans , Smithson , H . B . Abbott , and others . The visitors included Bros . Jose Rickard , W . M . 304 ; Carter , W . M . 1042 ; Bradford , W . M . 1211 ; Scarth , P . M . 2 S 9 J Moore , Hollis , Tomlinson , Smith , ond others . Two names having been put before the lodge as those of

gentlemen suitable for initiation into the Order , the W . M . then addressed the brethren present as follows : I have asked the W . M . ' s of the Leeds lodges to attend here today , the Silver Wedding day of the Prince of Wales , for the purpose of sending to him a united expression of loyalty on this memorable occasion . I recollect the marriage which' took place at St . George ' s Chapel , Windsor , 25 years

ago very well , - I also remember the day when their Royal Highnesses made their public entry into London . Some one has said that to look at the Princess of Wales is to love her , and certainly when the English nation looked atH . R . H . they loved her , and have loved her ever since . The poet laureate has most happily expressed the mind of the English nation on that occasion when he addressed the splendid ode , ot which one-verse was as follows : —

Sea king's daughter , as happy as fair , Beautiful bride of a blissful heir , Bride of the heir of the kings of the sea . Oh ! joy to the people and joy to the throne , Come to us , love us , and make us your own , For Saxon or Dane or Norman , we , Teutons or Celt , or whatever we be , We are each of us Danes in our welcome to thee—Alexandra ' .

Yes , from the first moment of her arrival to the present we have loved the Princess , our future Queen . We have loved her not only for her gentle part , her majestic mien , not merely for her sweet disposition , but in good truth for her consistent and simple goodness , for her devotion to her husband and children , and her adopted country ; and I am sure of this , that the hopes that were entertained at

that Royal marriage , which took place 25 years ago , have been realised . We , as loyal Masons , happily meeting on this day , unite in our expression of gratitude to the G . A . O . T . U . for having preserved the Royal pair for so long . It is a long time in our life , and it is matter for thankfulness that during that period no serious domestic calamity has clouded their wedded life . As to H . R . H ., he is in every

sence of the word a most popular man , and in every sense of the word he has been a true Mason . I think it would be sadly wanting in us if we allowed this day to pass without sending some expression of our feelings . As Lodge Prudence happened to meet on the actual day of the celebration , it struck me as a happy thought to send a united Masonic greeting from Leeds , and I am extremely

pleased to know that my proposition meets with the unqualified approval of the members of the other seven Leeds lodges . I propose to send the following telegram to the Most Worshipful Grand Master : "The W . M . 's , officers , and brethren of the eight Masonic lodges of Leeds , in open lodge assembled , under the banner of Lodge Prudence , No . 2060 , most respectfully and loyally greet H . R . H . the

Princeof Wales , M . W . G . M ., and the Princess of Wales , on this the celebration of your silver wedding-day , and most earnestly pray T . G . A . O . T . U . to bless your Royal Highnesses for many years to come . Signed , Tudor Trevor , W . M . 2069 . " Bros . Scarth , P . M . 2 S 9 ; Jose Rickard , W . M . 304 ; Bradford , W . M . 12115 and Carter , VV . M . 1042 , all cordially supported the motion , whilst Bro .

Dr . Cartwright Smyth , in happy terms , added his voice to the general chorus of congratulations , and the motion having been adopted with great enthusiasm , it was at once despatched by telegraph to Sir Fras . Knollys for presentation . The lodge shortly afterwards closed , and high tea was

partaken of by a large number of brethren and visitors . In the speeches sympathetic allusion was made by the W . M . and others to the sad bereavement which has befallen many noble families in Europe by the death of the German Emperor , who was a friend and patron of the Craft .

A few toasts followed , and one in particular was drank in solemn silence , to the memory of the late Emperor of Germany as late Grand Master of the German Masons . At 8 . 30 a very pleasant evening was brought to a close .

The Princess Henry of Battenberg has graciously consented to lay the foundation-stone of the Queen Victoria Jubilee Almshouses for Widows in Greenwich-road , Greenwich , which will form an addition to the almshouses erected in 1809 to commemorate the Jubilee of George III .
