MANCHESTER . —Derby Lodge ( No . 1055 ) . — 'The installation meeting anel St . John ' s festival of this loelge was held at the Broughton and Cheetham Masonic Rooms , Bedford-street , Bury New-road , on Thursday , the Sth inst . A change in the head-quarters of this , lodge has most advantageousl y been made from the Knowsley Hotel , Cheetham , to the present address , anel any brother wbo has

visited the lodge since its removal cannot fail to be struck with the comfort and convenience now attained , and to come to the conclusion that a most desirable aim has been achieved , viz ., independence from the dictation of innkeepers , club committees , and landlords , whicb many lodges are at the present time suffering from . 'The lodge and banquet rooms are spacious and lofty , and will

comfortably seat between seventy and eighty brethren , and there is also every convenience in the ante and other rooms of the building . We understand it is the intention of the members to form themselves into a club , but the payment annually will be very small , something like 2 s ., whilst to members of the Craft not belonging to thc Derby Lodge or Chapter the subscription will be five shillings . 'The

rooms are to be open to members every evening from six to eleven o ' clock - , and the extremely low subscription should cause them to be well attended by members of the Craft residing in the neighbourhood . The following brethren were present : Bros . J . R . Boult , VV . M . ; A . Morrison , S . W . ; T . VV . Hope , J . W . ; F . H . Glendinning , P . M ., Treas . ; F . R . Cooper , Secretary ;

having been commented upon by several brethren , including the Auditors , was adopted . The lodge was then opened in the Second Degree , and Bro . E . Griffiths Hughes , P . M ., assumed thc chair . The VV . M . elect , Bro . A . Morrison , was in due form presented , and with all proper rite and ceremony inducted into the chair of K . S . by the Installing Master , Bro . E . Griffiths Hughes , P . M . On thc re-admission of M . M . ' s the usual proclamation was made to them of Bro . Morrison's installation , and thc usual salutes were ¦ riven .

Bro . Glendinning then invested the following brethren as officers for the ensuing year : Bros . T . VV . Hope , S . VV . ; A . B . VVimpory , J . W . ; Joseph Snape , S . D . ; F . Cooper , J . D . ; W . Jones , Sec ; Alfred Turner , P . M ., Treas . ; F . H . Glendinning , 13 . of C , invested by P . M . West ; Robt . Kitching , I . G . : Sharpies , Davidson , and Foden , Stewards ; J . Kirk , 'T yler . 'The addresses to the W . M . and Wardens were given by Bro . P . M . Pollitt , and to thc

brethren by P . M . lurner , clearly and distinctly . Ihe ceremony throughout was done in a highly satisfactory manner by all who took part in it , notably the installation portion by Bro . E . Griffiths Hughes , P . AI ., and we should think the lodge never need go abroad for workers whilst that excellent brother dwells amongst them . Bro . Hughes having informed the brethren that it would be necessary to read thc proposed rules of thc club with a view to their

being sanctioned and adopted , proceeded to read them , and a motion was put anel carried that they be adopted , subject to alteration or aeldition at any future time . Bros . Past Masters Hughes and Peillitt , also Bros . Williamson and Davidson , thc VV . M ., Senior and Junior Wardens , were elected as executive committee of the rooms . "Hearty good wishes "were expressed by the visitors , anel the loelge was closed in peace anel harmony at six o ' clock .

At 6 . 30 the brethren sat down to an excellent banquet , which augured well for the successful catering of the club in the culinary department . At the conclusion of the banquet thc usual loyal toasts were proposeel and responded to . In proposing "The Health of the Dep . Prov . Master , and the Past anel Present Prov . G . Ofiicers , " Bro . Kcn } "on remarked that lo know their Dep . Prov . G . Master , Bro . Geo . Mellon , was to thoroughly appreciate him , and to

know he hail Freemasonry al heart ; and as regards the Provincial Grand Officers , he thought no fault could be found with them , anel they were at all times willing to elo their utmost to further the interests of Freemasonry . He hael great pleasure in asking the brethren to respond heartily to this toast , and he coupled with it the name of Bro . G . VV . P . Salmon . P . P . G . D . of C . E . L . This toast was

drank with enthusiasm , and in response Bro . G . W . P . Salmon thanked Bro . Kenyon for his kind remarks , and the brethren for responding to thc toast so cordially , and said it was no eloubt a great honour to become a Provincial Grand Officer , and one that a great many woulel be delighted to receive . The duties certainly were not very heavy , and the ability which their Prov . G . Master always displayed renelereu these eluties less onerous . For- himself he was at all

tunes ready and willing to elo al ! that laid in his power to benefit the Craft . At this stage of the proceedings , Bro . Morris Davis remarked that he had great pleasure in presenting the lodge with a small token of his regard in the shape of a loving cup . In mentioning his intention to one of the brethren some week or two back , it was suggested that it would not be an unappropriatc present , and , in asking the W . M . to accept this offering he trustee ! that love and harmony would always reign

amongst them . The VV . M ., in thanking Bro . Davis in the name ; of the loelge for bis handsome present , saiel it was not the first lime that worthy brother had exhibited his generosity and good feeling towards tbe Derb y Lodge , and be hoped sincerely that the donor would long be spared to see the cup handed round . At the suggestion of a brother , the loving cup was at once filled with champagne , and handed to each brother in succession . Bro . J . R . ' Boult , I . P . M ., in

proposing Ihe Health of the W . M ., " said it gave him great pleasure to propose the toast of the evening , anel he felt certain the brethren would take an equal pleasure in responding to it . He felt certain that in electing Bro . Morrison to fill the chair of W . M . thev hael elected the right man , and one who wtiulel be a cretltt to tbeir lodge , and that he would work up to the standard of efficiency that important ofiice required . I le felt sure that the loving cup

which Bro . Davis hail that evening presented te > the loelge woulel dining Bro . Morrison ' s yearof office be often passeel round , and whenever it was ' he ( Bro . Boult ) trusted he should be present to take a drink from it . The toast was received by the brethren with the greatest enthusiasm , and we feel sure that the LP . M . ' s remarks as to the future welfare of the lodge under Bro . Morrison ' s presidency will be fully borne out , for a more genial and highly esteemed

brother never sat 111 the chair . 'The VV . M ., in reply , said he thanked them for the high honour they had conferred upon him by electing him the W . M . of the Derb y Loelge , and he should endeavour to do his best to promote its interests . He hael in Bro . Pollitt , P . M ., one who hail been his guide and instructor during the fulfilment of the various offices which he had held , and he felt that heowcel to Bro . Pollitt the high position he had now attained , and be took this oDiiorliinitv

of sincerely thanking him , and also the brethren , for so warmly responding to the toast of his health . Bro . Pollitt , P . M ., in proposing "The Health of the I . P . M ., Bro . Boult , " said it gave him great pleasure to do so . He was convinced that Bro . Boult had Freemasonry at heart , and the interests of the Derb y Lodge in particular , and that he had done bis best for the promotion of their interests during his somewhat chequered year of office . Thev all

knew that Bro . Boult had laboured tinder certain disadvantages during the past twelve months ; as very soon after he was elected to the office of W . M . the lodge had to shift its quarters to its pri'scnt abode , and , consequently , for some time they had virtually no home and had been very unsettled , and , therefore , under such circumstances Bro . Boult coulel not be expecleel tn shine to the best advantage , but , as he had before stated , he was ejuite

certain that their I . P . M . hail the welfare of the lodge at heart , and woulel cheerfull y undertake and carry out any duty to the best of bis ability the brethren might wish him to perform . Bio . Boult , in ' reply , thanked P . M . Pollitt for his kind remarks , anel said il was no eloubt a great honour to be installed W . M ., and to become a bright anel shining

star amongst bis brethren . He assured them that be felt very proud when the honour was conferred upon him , anil he trusted he had acquitted himself during bis year of office to their satisfaction . As Bro . Pollitt had stateel , he had laboured under certain disadvantages during his term of office , but now they were fairly settled in their new

'The

rooms are to be open to members every evening from six to eleven o ' clock - , and the extremely low subscription should cause them to be well attended by members of the Craft residing in the neighbourhood . The following brethren were present : Bros . J . R . Boult , VV . M . ; A . Morrison , S . W . ; T . VV . Hope , J . W . ; F . H . Glendinning , P . M ., Treas . ; F . R . Cooper , Secretary ;

having been commented upon by several brethren , including the Auditors , was adopted .
