PLUMSTEAD . —United Military Lodge ( No . 1536 ) . — 'The usual monthly meeting of the above lodge took place at Bro . Tucker ' s house , the Lord Raglan , Bi ' irragc-road , and was well attended . More than usual interest was excited on this occasion , Bro . Baron De Worms , M . P . for Greenwich , who is exceedingly popular in this district , having promised to pay a visit to the lodge .

Freemasonry . 'Three cnmlidatcs were then passed to the Second Degree , anil three were to have been mfsx-e ! to thc . Sublime Degree , but they were not in attendance . Bro . Weston then informed the brethren that , through the support of the G . M . for Kent , Karl Amhurst , the late Lord Holmesdale , and their esteemed Bro . Coupland , P . M ., he had been enabled to obtain from the County Benevolent Fund the
sum of twenty-live guineas for the widow of thc late Bro . Cook , a statement which was received with applause . The VV . M . then intimated that Bro . Hayes , P . M . of the Pattison Lodge , No . 913 , was going up as Steward at thc next Girls' School Festival , and proposed that the sum of five guineas shoulel be given to his list out of thc lodge fund . The proposition was carrieel unanimously , anel then the
W . M . added that he was in a position to give live guineas from the charity box . which woulel make up ten guineas for Bro . Hayes' list , for which Bro . Have's returned thanks . The lorlge was then closed , and thc brethren partook of a neat little cold supper , provided by Bro . Tucker with that taste that is so appreciated by the sojourners at his hospitable establishment . On rctiirnintr to refreshments the
usual toasts were honoured ; the W . M . reflecting with pleasure upon the distinction conferred upon their esteemed Prov . G . M . I )} ' Her Gracious Afnjersfy the Oucen . Bro . Eastes was deservedly honoured , and then the I . P . M . rose to propose the toast of "The VV . M ., " whom be congratulated upon the efficient manner in which he carried out his duties , not only that night but ever since his installation .
He reminded him tbat after two more meetings he would have to take bis place on the left of the chair , and then they would see the last of him . He did not mean that ; but he would have fulfilled a year of office that bad been to his own credit anel to the material prosperity of the lodge . A letter was then read from Bro . Baron De Worms , in which he regretted bis inability to attend , as be bad been on
business tei the Seaman ' s Hospital at Greenwich , where he was taken so unwell that he was compelled to seek medical advice , lie sent his regrets , but trusted soon to have" the honour of paying a visit to the United Military Lodge . Bro . Shaw then returned thanks for their kind reception of his
name . As he said . some fifteen or sixteen years ago , he was a Mason at heart , and he was the same now . Then he determined to elo all in his power to aid thc onward and upward course of Masonry , anel if he had failed it was through no want of effort on his part . He trusted to be spared as one of the Past Masters of that lodge for years to

come ; and as there was every possibility of his ending his days in Woolwich , he should as long as he bad health ancl strength continue to aid anel assist its prosperity in thc future as he hael in the past . To the toast of " 'The" Visitors" Bros . De Grey , Knightley , Good , Clements , and Tucker responded . The next toast was "The Initiates , " and the two new brethren replied suitably . "The Past Masters" were next toasted , and , in the course of his
speech , the VV . M . paid a high compliment to Bro . Weston for his efforts in thc cause of charity , in which particular line he declared that brother to be a host in himself , and a most indefatigable beggar . During the last week he had noticed Bro . Weston working most industriously for the Stewardship of Bro . Hayes . No sooner did Bro . Weston meet a brother than out came a little card , and before that brother could get away they might be sure Bro . Weston
had got a subscription from him . He then spoke of Bro . Weston's efforts for widow Cook , and asked them to do honour to the toast . Bro . Weston , whose name was received with heartiness , in thc course of his remarks spoke of the difficulty he bad experienced at the Grand Lodge of Benevolence to get the grant for Mrs . Cook , but their noble Prov . Grand Master and others had kindly assisted him , and the grant was carried . He stated with pride that his
lordship had spoken very highly of the United Military Lodge , and in a year or so he had no doubt that their lodge would receive thc usual £ 20 from Provincial Grand Lodge for the Masonic Charities . He thanked them for thc toast . The next toast was a sort of God speed to Bro . Hatcher , a brother whose time of service in the Royal Artillery was just up , antt who was about to proceed to Bermuda , and hearty were thc good wishes of all the brethren for his safe
arrival at his destination . Bro . Hatcher , after thanking them , saiel be knew Bermuda well , anel the lodges there , anel he should join one of them as soon as he arrived . He had been eighteen years a Mason , and belonged to all three Constitutions—English , Scotch , and Irish . He thanked them heartily for their good wishes . Bro . Laphatn
proposed , and it was acceded to , that the W . M . should write to the Bermudian lodges , recommending Bro . Hatcher to their fraternal care . The toast of "The Officers" followed , and Bro . Deeves responded . A hearty vote of thanks was passed to the "Masonic Press , " and after Bro . Jolly hael responded , the Tyler ' s toast concluded the pleasures and duties of the evening .
LEYTONSTONE . —Ley Spring Lodge ( No . 139 S ) . —This lodge held its installation meeting at the Red Lion , on the Sth inst . There were present Bros . I . Buscall , W . NL ; Lewis Lewis , S . W . ; J . VV . Roberts , J . VV . ; and thc usual officers . Amongst the visitors were Bros . J . I . insdcll , P . M . 211 ; G . AV . Vcrrv , P . M . 554 ; G . N . Blackie , VV . M . 142 O : R . Vincent , S . D . 1 GS 5 ; J . Taylor , LG . 1700 ; J . Edridge , « : and I . Thompson , 1 CS 1 .
The loelge was opened in due form , and the minutes of the last meeting were , after discussion , confirmed , with the exception that the question of election of Treasurer was adjourned for further consideration . Thc report of the Audit Committee , which was considered very satisfactory , was agreed to . 'The ceremony of initiation was next proceeded with , Messrs . G . Settles and Frank Dutch being the initiates . The lodge having been opened in tbe Second
Degree , tbe VV . M . elect , Bro . Lewis Lewis , was introduced for installation . A Board of Installed Masters having been formed , and the other brethren having retired , Bro . Lewis was duly installed in the chair of K . S . Bro . G . E . Walters , P . M ., being the Installing Master . The VV . M . having been greetctl in the usual manner , the brethren were readmitted , when he was saluted , proclaimed , and greeted in the Three Degrees , with great acclamation .
The following officers for the ensuing year were then invested : Bros . J . VV . Roberts , S . VV . ; E . Bare , J . W . ; K . Skelt , S . D . ; W . D . Claridge , J . D . ; VV . IL Allawav , W . S . ; VV . Brown , LG . ; VV . Penny , D . C ; and G . C . Young , Organist . 'The Tyler , Bro . C 'Thomas , was unanimously re-elected . The Ancient Charges and the working tools in each Degree were delivered and explained by Bro . Walters , P . M ., in the most able , careful , and impressive manner , and he was most justly complimented by thc
brethren present . The banquet which followed was scrvcel with tbe usual liberality which is proverbial in this locality , anel was ably superintended by the bost of the Lion , Bro . Barford , all the loyal and Masonic toasts being rendered with great enthusiasm . We bad almost forgotten lo mention that the usual Past Master's jewel was duly voted and accorded in very flattering terms to the seceding Master , Bro . Isaac Buscall .
YORK . —Eboracum Lodge ( No . 1611 ) . —At the regular meeting of this lodge on Monday , the 12 th inst ., thc VV . M ., Bro . C . G . Padel , presiding , supported by Bros . J . S . Cumberland , I . P . AI . ; T . B . Whytehead , P . M . ; G . Balmford , P . M . ; J . Hanly , P . M . ( St . Patrick's ); Rev . J . Metcalfe ( Chaplain ); Rev . J . Blake , and numerous other brethren , several interesting presentations were made , including a sculptured stone from the ruins of ancient
Carthage , which was handed over to the VV . M . by Bro . T . B . Wh y tehead , on behalf of Bro . A . M . Broadley , P . M . Ancient Carthage Loelge , No . 1717 , and Dep . Prov . G . M . of Malta , wbo is an honorary member eif the Eboracum Lodge . 'The gift consists of a stone slab , containing in a panel an unfinished figure representing a priest in long robes ; tbe right hanel elevated , as if in the act of invoking a blessing , and the left resting on thc breast . 'The relic excited much curiosity , and a cordial vote of thanks was ordered to be
conveyed to Bro . Broadley , and it was ordered that the stone should be enclosed in a massive oak frame , with a proper inscription , and placed in a suitable position in the lotlge room . Several books were also presented to thc lodge library . Bro . J . S . Cumberland announceel a good list for the Girls' School Festival on Friday , the lfith inst ., anil the VV . M . expressed great pleasure at the prominent position this young lodge was taking in regard to the three great Institutions . The meeting was numerously attended , and comprised many visitors .

Gig ) . —A convocation of this chapter was held on Thursday , tbe Sth inst ., at the Masons' Tavern , Masons' Avenue , Basinghall-street , for the first time after its removal from tbe Horns Tavern , Kennington . Comp . Jacobs , M . K . Z ., presided . There were also resent Comps . Wyer , II . ; P . Z . ' s Smeed , Seaman ,

Avery , Green ( S . E . ) , and Coste ; andH . Thompson ( Freemason J . The business of the evening was the installation of the Principals , ancl the whole of those ceremonies were performed by Comp . Smeed in his usual faultless manner ; Comps . Wyer , M . E . Z . ; Thompson , H . ; and Sharratt , J . Comp . Doclman was elected P . S ., and Comp . Dawes , S . N .
Some nominations having been made thc chapter was closed , and the companions adjourned to Ihe banqueting room , where a sumptuous repast was provided , and served in capi- tal style . Afterwards thc usual formal toasts were given and duly honoured . Comps . Jacobs proposed " Thc Health of the M . E . Z ., Comp . Wyer , " and said there was no doubt that under his rule the chapter would flourish , as he was
proficient in all the duties appertaining to the high position he occupied , and would see all the work done in a propcrmanner . TheM . E . Z . returned thanks for thc honour conferred upon him , and said he would do all in his power to merit the confidence tbey had reposed in him . He then remarked that he had a very pleasant duty to discharge , which was to present Comp . Jacobs with a jewel which had been voted to
him by the companions , as a mark of their esteem and in appreciation of his services as M . E . Z . during thc past year . He had great pleasure in attaching it to his breast , trusting that he might be blessed with good health for many years to wear it . Comp . Jacobs returned thanks for the kindly words expressed towards him by the M . E . Z ., and regretted tbat during his year he had so few opportunities
of discharging his duties in the chair , but trusted tbat during that of bis successor be would havc frequent opportunities of proving to the companions the excellent choice tbey had made . "The Health of Comps . H . Thompson and J . Sharratt , Principals H . and J ., " was then given , and heartily responded to . Comp . H . Thompson , in reply , said he was now placed in a very proud position , being onl y second to the M . E . Z ., and most sincere ! } ' did he thank the
companions for the honour they had 'conferred upon him , and the only way in which he could requite their kindness was to make himself thoroughly acquainted and conversant with duties he should have to perform . He had occupied the chair in two lodges , but in this chapter he should arrive at the climax of his Masonic career . Comp . Sharratt also returned thanks . Some other toasts were given and responded to , and the Janitor's toast brought a very harmonious gathering to a close .
KENNINGTON CHAPTER ( No . 1381 ) . — A convocation of this chapter was held at the Surrey Club House , on Thursday , the Sth inst . There were present Comps . G . Everett , M . E . Z . ; VV . Mann , P . Z ., acting H . ; T . C . Walls , P . G . D . C . Middx ., acting J . ; H . Higgins , S . E . ; Speedy , ist Asst . ; Webb , 2 nd Asst . ; James Terry , P . Z . ( honorary member ); Dale } ' , Janitor .
The minutes of the previous meeting having been read and confirmed , Bro . Jenkins , 13 S 1 , was most impressively exalted to the Supreme Degree of the Royal Arch . Comps . Mann , Walls , anel Higgins were then duly and ably inducted by Comp . Terry into the chairs of the three Principals . The officers appointed and invested for the year ensuing were Comps . G . Everett , I . P . Z ., and Treas . ; G .

Previously to the chapter being closed , a vote of thanks was unanimously passed to Comp . expressed his acknowledgments , the convocation was closed , and the companions adjourned to tbe banquet . Upon the removal of the cloth the customary toasts were duly proposed and honoured . In proposing "The Health of the M . E . Z . " Comp . Everett dwelt upon the long services rentlcred to the cause of Masonry by their First Principal . He hoped that his year of office would be exceedingly
prosperous , and that at its termination the M . E . Z . would leave the chair in the possession of their fullest confidence and esteem . This toast having been rceeivcel with excellent fire" the M . E . Z . briefly replied , and then gave "The Installing Officer . " Comp . Terry having tersely responded , the M . E . Z . proposed in very eulogistic terms "The Health of the I . P . Z ., " and at the conclusion of bis speech he
presented Comp . Everett with a very handsome and valuable Past Principal ' s jewel . The design of the jewel was both original and chaste , and reflected great credit upon the wellknown London firm that furnished it . The I . P . Z . having replied , the remaining toasts , viz ., " The Second and Third Principals , " "The Exaltee , " "The Officers , " and thc Janitor's , terminated the proceedings , which were throughout most enjoyable .

M ., he had been enabled to obtain from the County Benevolent Fund the
sum of twenty-live guineas for the widow of thc late Bro . Cook , a statement which was received with applause . The VV . M . then intimated that Bro . Hayes , P . M . of the Pattison Lodge , No . 913 , was going up as Steward at thc next Girls' School Festival , and proposed that the sum of five guineas shoulel be given to his list out of thc lodge fund . The proposition was carrieel unanimously , anel then the
W . M . added that he was in a position to give live guineas from the charity box . which woulel make up ten guineas for Bro . Hayes' list , for which Bro . Have's returned thanks . The lorlge was then closed , and thc brethren partook of a neat little cold supper , provided by Bro . He reminded him tbat after two more meetings he would have to take bis place on the left of the chair , and then they would see the last of him . He did not mean that ; but he would have fulfilled a year of office that bad been to his own credit anel to the material prosperity of the lodge . A letter was then read from Bro . Baron De Worms , in which he regretted bis inability to attend , as be bad been on
business tei the Seaman ' s Hospital at Greenwich , where he was taken so unwell that he was compelled to seek medical advice , lie sent his regrets , but trusted soon to have" the honour of paying a visit to the United Military Lodge . Bro . Shaw then returned thanks for their kind reception of his
name . As he said . some fifteen or sixteen years ago , he was a Mason at heart , and he was the same now . To the toast of " 'The" Visitors" Bros . De Grey , Knightley , Good , Clements , and Tucker responded . The next toast was "The Initiates , " and the two new brethren replied suitably . "The Past Masters" were next toasted , and , in the course of his
speech , the VV . M . paid a high compliment to Bro . Weston for his efforts in thc cause of charity , in which particular line he declared that brother to be a host in himself , and a most indefatigable beggar . During the last week he had noticed Bro . Weston working most industriously for the Stewardship of Bro . Hayes . No sooner did Bro . Weston meet a brother than out came a little card , and before that brother could get away they might be sure Bro . Weston
had got a subscription from him . He then spoke of Bro . Weston's efforts for widow Cook , and asked them to do honour to the toast . Bro . Weston , whose name was received with heartiness , in thc course of his remarks spoke of the difficulty he bad experienced at the Grand Lodge of Benevolence to get the grant for Mrs . Cook , but their noble Prov . Grand Master and others had kindly assisted him , and the grant was carried . He stated with pride that his
lordship had spoken very highly of the United Military Lodge , and in a year or so he had no doubt that their lodge would receive thc usual £ 20 from Provincial Grand Lodge for the Masonic Charities . He thanked them for thc toast . The next toast was a sort of God speed to Bro . Hatcher , a brother whose time of service in the Royal Artillery was just up , antt who was about to proceed to Bermuda , and hearty were thc good wishes of all the brethren for his safe
arrival at his destination . Bro . Hatcher , after thanking them , saiel be knew Bermuda well , anel the lodges there , anel he should join one of them as soon as he arrived . He had been eighteen years a Mason , and belonged to all three Constitutions—English , Scotch , and Irish . He thanked them heartily for their good wishes . Bro . Laphatn
proposed , and it was acceded to , that the W . M . should write to the Bermudian lodges , recommending Bro . Hatcher to their fraternal care . The toast of "The Officers" followed , and Bro . Deeves responded . A hearty vote of thanks was passed to the "Masonic Press , " and after Bro . Jolly hael responded , the Tyler ' s toast concluded the pleasures and duties of the evening .

The loelge was opened in due form , and the minutes of the last meeting were , after discussion , confirmed , with the exception that the question of election of Treasurer was adjourned for further consideration . Thc report of the Audit Committee , which was considered very satisfactory , was agreed to . 'The ceremony of initiation was next proceeded with , Messrs . G . Settles and Frank Dutch being the initiates . The lodge having been opened in tbe Second
Degree , tbe VV . M . elect , Bro . Lewis Lewis , was introduced for installation . A Board of Installed Masters having been formed , and the other brethren having retired , Bro . Lewis was duly installed in the chair of K . S . Bro . G . E . Walters , P . M ., being the Installing Master . The VV . M . having been greetctl in the usual manner , the brethren were readmitted , when he was saluted , proclaimed , and greeted in the Three Degrees , with great acclamation .

Barford , all the loyal and Masonic toasts being rendered with great enthusiasm . Blake , and numerous other brethren , several interesting presentations were made , including a sculptured stone from the ruins of ancient
Carthage , which was handed over to the VV . M . by Bro . T . B . Wh y tehead , on behalf of Bro . A . M . Broadley , P . M . Ancient Carthage Loelge , No . 1717 , and Dep . Prov . G . M . of Malta , wbo is an honorary member eif the Eboracum Lodge . 'The gift consists of a stone slab , containing in a panel an unfinished figure representing a priest in long robes ; tbe right hanel elevated , as if in the act of invoking a blessing , and the left resting on thc breast . 'The relic excited much curiosity , and a cordial vote of thanks was ordered to be
conveyed to Bro . Broadley , and it was ordered that the stone should be enclosed in a massive oak frame , with a proper inscription , and placed in a suitable position in the lotlge room . Several books were also presented to thc lodge library . Bro . J . S . Cumberland announceel a good list for the Girls' School Festival on Friday , the lfith inst ., anil the VV . M . expressed great pleasure at the prominent position this young lodge was taking in regard to the three great Institutions . The meeting was numerously attended , and comprised many visitors .

The business of the evening was the installation of the Principals , ancl the whole of those ceremonies were performed by Comp . Smeed in his usual faultless manner ; Comps . Wyer , M . E . Some nominations having been made thc chapter was closed , and the companions adjourned to Ihe banqueting room , where a sumptuous repast was provided , and served in capi- tal style . Afterwards thc usual formal toasts were given and duly honoured . Comps . Jacobs proposed " Thc Health of the M . E . Z ., Comp . Wyer , " and said there was no doubt that under his rule the chapter would flourish , as he was
proficient in all the duties appertaining to the high position he occupied , and would see all the work done in a propcrmanner . TheM . E . Z . returned thanks for thc honour conferred upon him , and said he would do all in his power to merit the confidence tbey had reposed in him . He then remarked that he had a very pleasant duty to discharge , which was to present Comp . Jacobs with a jewel which had been voted to
him by the companions , as a mark of their esteem and in appreciation of his services as M . E . Z . during thc past year . He had great pleasure in attaching it to his breast , trusting that he might be blessed with good health for many years to wear it . Comp . Jacobs returned thanks for the kindly words expressed towards him by the M . E . Z ., and regretted tbat during his year he had so few opportunities
of discharging his duties in the chair , but trusted tbat during that of bis successor be would havc frequent opportunities of proving to the companions the excellent choice tbey had made . "The Health of Comps . H . Thompson and J . Sharratt , Principals H . and J ., " was then given , and heartily responded to . Comp . H . Thompson , in reply , said he was now placed in a very proud position , being onl y second to the M . E . Z ., and most sincere ! } ' did he thank the
companions for the honour they had 'conferred upon him , and the only way in which he could requite their kindness was to make himself thoroughly acquainted and conversant with duties he should have to perform . He had occupied the chair in two lodges , but in this chapter he should arrive at the climax of his Masonic career . Comp . Sharratt also returned thanks . Some other toasts were given and responded to , and the Janitor's toast brought a very harmonious gathering to a close .

Mann , Walls , anel Higgins were then duly and ably inducted by Comp . Terry into the chairs of the three Principals . The officers appointed and invested for the year ensuing were Comps . G . He hoped that his year of office would be exceedingly
prosperous , and that at its termination the M . E . Z . would leave the chair in the possession of their fullest confidence and esteem . This toast having been rceeivcel with excellent fire" the M . E . Z . briefly replied , and then gave "The Installing Officer . " Comp . Terry having tersely responded , the M . E . Z . proposed in very eulogistic terms "The Health of the I . P . Z ., " and at the conclusion of bis speech he
presented Comp . Everett with a very handsome and valuable Past Principal ' s jewel . The design of the jewel was both original and chaste , and reflected great credit upon the wellknown London firm that furnished it . The I . P . Z . having replied , the remaining toasts , viz ., " The Second and Third Principals , " "The Exaltee , " "The Officers , " and thc Janitor's , terminated the proceedings , which were throughout most enjoyable .
