happily , however , took no effect , the coachman drove on rapidly , and the occupants of the carriage , who , it may be imagined , were much alarmed , reached home without further misadventure . The police have since made efforts to discover the perpetrators of the outrage , and it remains to be seen what success will attend their efforts .

As an instance of smartness in advertising commend us to the six-line paragraph under the clever notice in the World of the reception of the Abbe Liszt at Westwood last week . In the text we read— " He ( the Abbe ) tells you of his former visits to his old friends the Krards in Great Marlborough-street , & c , & c . " Underneath this in

smaller type , cut off with a rule , is Messrs . Lrard s advertisement of their pianos . Whether the writer of the article , the lirm above-named , or Bro . Edmund Yates' advertisement manager is to be credited with it or not , we cannot say , but Yankee smart ness in this direction can hardly have beaten this example of the art of advertising .

Mill , M . P ., W . Tyssen-Amherst , M . P ., Sir F , Stanley , M . P ., the Earl of Bective , M . P ., | and others .
