C . B ., has been postponed to Thursday , the 22 nd inst ., while on the following day Bro . the Lord Mayor has agreed to receive a deputation on the subject at the Mansion House .
To-morrow ( Saturday ) Princess Christian will preside at a Drawing Room , which will beheld , by permission of Lady Geonre Hamilton , at the residence of the First Lord of the Admiralty , to urge the importance of establishing a Home of Rest for Nurses . A committee of ladies has already been
formed , of which the Princess Christian is President , and among whose members are the Duchess of Abercorn , Lady Edward Cavendish , Lady George Hamilton , Lady Audrey Buller , and Theresa Countess of Shrewsbury , for the purpose of founding a home where nurses can enjoy the much-needed holiday .
At the regular meeting of the Bagshaw Lodge , 1457 , held on the Sth inst ., Bro . Herbert S . Day was elected VV . Master for the ensuing year . The present VV . Master , Bro . Wm . James Shadrake , presided , and , in his customary able manner , performed the several ceremonies . Amongst these was the raising of Bro . James Stevens ( son of Bro . James
Stevens , P . M ., P . Z . ) to the Third Degree . A Past Master ' s jewel , of the value of 10 guineas , was unanimously voted to Bro . Shadrake for his eminent services during his year of office . After lodge had been closed two or three very pleasant hours were spent by the members and numerous visitors before they separated .
1 he National Co-operative Flower Show has again been arranged to be held at the Crystal Palace . The date fixed is Saturday , August 16 th . Last year the show attained colossal dimensions , filling the great nave of the Crystal . Palace from end to end . The number of exhibits were over 4000 , and visitors exceeded 32 , 000 . This year the Agricultural and Horticultural Association of London
contributes nearly £ . 200 in prizes , and the Crystal Pa ' ace Company £ 150 . It is expected that special prizes will also be offered by numerous London and Provincial Co-operative Societies , as was done last year . The schedule just issued is a 52-page pamphlet . It embraces offers of 825 money prizes , besides silver and bronze medals , and—for the first time—a champion gold medal . One new feature is the
division of exhibitors into geographical districts . For the more important prizes the country is mapped out into live districts , so that exhibitors from the north will not have to compete against the south , the west , the Midlands , & c , or vice versa . Antonio Mella , the proprietor of the Star and Garter Hotel , at Richmond , on Wednesday , inaugurated his third season there in a soundly philanthropic manner by giving a grand ball for the benefit of the Italian Benevolent Society , the Italian Hospital in Oueen's-square , bloomsbury , and the Italian School . All these institutions exist in London for the purpose of helping in their respective ways those
sick , poor , or destitute Italians who find themselves stranded in the Metropolis without means of helping themselves or communicating with friends in their own country . Besides receiving a generous support from the well-to-do members of the Italian colony in London , these charities also obtain a certain amount of help from their native Government , and in consequence of this the ball was held
under the direct patronage of the Italian Ambassador , Consul-General , and Chamber of Commerce . The comfort of the guests , who numbered upwards of 300 , was most carefully looked after and studied by Bro . Mella . Supper was served in the Prince's Hall , and the dancing was carried on in the handsomely decorated new pavilion on a perfect floor to the strains of an excellent band .

A telegram from Washington , on the 14 th inst ., says : By request of the Prince of Wales , Sir Julian Pauncefote , the British Minister , to-day planted in front of George Washington ' s tomb , at Mount Vernon , an oak sapling propagated in the Government botanical gardens here from an acorn which Sir Julian Pauncefote brought from England , in order to replace the dead tree which his Royal Highness planted himself on his visit to the United States some years
ago . The British Minister in his speech expressed the appreciation of the Prince of Wales and himself for the readiness with which the regent of Mount Vernon had acceded to his wish to plant a tree by Washington's grave . He also eulogised the virtues of the first President , and hoped that the tree would endure as a token of the feeling of attachment entertained by the Royal Family and people of Great Britain for the United States .

The bands of hope had S 974
members ; in the penny banks there was deposited during the year over £ 9000 , of which there still remained at Christmas about £ 2000 . There were 3739 voluntary and S 4 paid teachers . During the year S 85 scholars went to situations from the schools , and more than 3000 children were sent to holiday homes for a fortnight . The receipts for the year amounted to £ 12 , 517 .

The decorations worn by the Committee on the occasion of the conversazione and reception to welcome Mr . Stanley at the Guildhall , on Tuesday , were manufactured by Bro . George Kenning . They are oval inform , in the centre being a figure representing progress and civilisation , supported on either side by Emin Pacha and Stanley . It bears the City shield and motto , with a figure representing civilisation at the base of the jewel .
In the Literary Institute , Edinburgh , a smoking concert was given on the 7 th inst ., under the auspices of the Lodge Roman Eagle , No . 1 C 0 , in aid of the Scottish Benevolent Scheme , for which the Craft in Scotland propose to raise £ , 000 . Bro . James Craig , R . W . M ., presided , and the evening , during which a capital entertainment , consisting of vocal and instrumental music , recitations , & c , by a
company of professionals and amateurs , was given , passed off to the satisfaction of a large audience . . The Queen left Windsor , accompanied by Prince and Princess Henry of Battenberg , for London , on the Sth inst ., and the day following held a Drawing Room at Buckingham
Palace , which was very numerously attended . On Saturday afternoon , after receiving the Jubilee offering of the Army and Navy , which was presented to her Majesty by the Duke of Cambridge , who was accompanied by a deputation representative of all the forces , she returned to Windsor .
New Lamps for Old , " at Terry s Theatre , reaches its 100 th performance on Wednesday , the 21 st inst ., on which occasion Mr . Alfred Bishop will play the part of Poselthwaite in place of Mr . F . Kerr who goes to the Shaftesbury . 'There is not the slightest truth in the report that Miss Grahame intends shortly producing a new play by
Mr . Carton . She has accepted a play by that gentleman , but owing to the increasing success and heavy advance bookings for " New Lamps for Old , " the production of Mr . Carton ' s play may not take place this year . Mr . J . H . Darnley will shortly produce , at a matinee in this theatre , his three act farcical comedy , " Wanted , a wife . "
On Monday afternoon her Majesty unveiled the Women ' s jubilee offering , that is , the equestrian statue of the late Prince Consort , at Windsor . There were over 1200 troops on the ground , including detachments of all the various regiments with which his late Royal Highness was at any time associated , and among those on the ground were the King of the Belgians , the Prince and Princess of
Wales , the Princes Albert Victor and George and the Princesses Victoria and Maud of Wales , the Duchess of Albany and her children , the Duke of Portland , the Marchioness of Hertford , the Lady Alberta Edgcumbe , Lady Muncaster , and other members of the Committee . The ceremony of unveiling was performed by the Oueen herself ,
and after that the Royal Artillery fired a Royal salute . The Royal and other visitors afterwards inspected the statue , and her Majesty was pleased to congratulate Sir E . Boehm on the success of his work . 'The statue cost £ 10 , 000 , £ 7000 being devoted by her Majesty to founding the association for providing nurses for the sick , while £ . 5000 was spent in the purchase of a diamond necklace .
Bro . Antonio Mella , the proprietor of the Star and Garter Hotel , at Richmond , on Wednesday , inaugurated his third season there in a soundly philanthropic manner by giving a grand ball for the benefit of the Italian Benevolent Society , the Italian Hospital in Oueen's-square , bloomsbury , and the Italian School . All these institutions exist in London for the purpose of helping in their respective ways those
sick , poor , or destitute Italians who find themselves stranded in the Metropolis without means of helping themselves or communicating with friends in their own country . Besides receiving a generous support from the well-to-do members of the Italian colony in London , these charities also obtain a certain amount of help from their native Government , and in consequence of this the ball was held
under the direct patronage of the Italian Ambassador , Consul-General , and Chamber of Commerce . The comfort of the guests , who numbered upwards of 300 , was most carefully looked after and studied by Bro . Mella . Supper was served in the Prince's Hall , and the dancing was carried on in the handsomely decorated new pavilion on a perfect floor to the strains of an excellent band .

The summer meeting of the Provincial Grand Lodge of Nottinghamshire will be held at the Bishop's Palace , Southwell , on Thursday , June 19 th . We are asked to notify that the Crystal Palace Lodge of Instruction now meets at S o'clock , instead of 7 . 30 as heretofore , at the Station Hotel , Camberwell New-road .
Bro . the Earl of Carnarvon is confined to his house in Portman-square by an attack of rheumatic gout . A reception which the Earl and Countess had arranged for this week has been abandoned . Bro . the Duke of St . Albans has purchased No . 13 , Grosvenor-crescent , of Mr . Arthur Wilson , who has removed to Grosvenor-place , and with the Duchess will take early possession of his new house .
In our list of the members elected to the Correspondence Circle of the Quatuor Coronati Lodge , which we published last week , appeared the name of Bro . J . Powell . It should have been Bro . George Powell , who we believe is the first member resident at Brighton elected to the Circle .

The picture-gallery at the Crystal Palace has just been re-arranged , under the direction of Mr . Wentworth Wass , the exhibition consisting , as before , of new works , together with a few that have attracted attention in various London collections . Numerous gold , silver , and bronze medals have been awarded , the judges being Mr . E . Long , R . A ., Mr . Henry Moore , A . R . A ., and Mr . E . A . Goodall . The favours are fairly divided between English and foreign artists .
A meeting of the Executive Committee of the National Leprosy Fund was held at the town residence of Bro . Baron Ferdinand de Rothschild , on the gth inst ., among those present being- Bros . Sir Algernon Borthwick and Sir Somers Vine , the honorary Secretary , the latter of whom presented the audited statement of account of the dinner held in January under the presidency of the Prince of Wales . The moneys at the disposal of the Committee are reported as being about X ' 6 ooo .
A telegram from Washington , on the 14 th inst ., says : By request of the Prince of Wales , Sir Julian Pauncefote , the British Minister , to-day planted in front of George Washington ' s tomb , at Mount Vernon , an oak sapling propagated in the Government botanical gardens here from an acorn which Sir Julian Pauncefote brought from England , in order to replace the dead tree which his Royal Highness planted himself on his visit to the United States some years
ago . The British Minister in his speech expressed the appreciation of the Prince of Wales and himself for the readiness with which the regent of Mount Vernon had acceded to his wish to plant a tree by Washington's grave . He also eulogised the virtues of the first President , and hoped that the tree would endure as a token of the feeling of attachment entertained by the Royal Family and people of Great Britain for the United States .
On Monday evening , the 12 th inst ., at Exeter Hall , the Princess Mary , Duchess of Teck , who was accompanied by her daughter Princess Victoria , distributed the prizes in connection with the Ragged School Union . The chair was taken by Lord Kinnaird , and among those on the platform were the Baroness Burdett-Coutts , Mrs . A . Bevan , and Sir T . Fowell Buxton . The hall was crowded . The annual
report , read by Mr . John Kirk , the Secretary , showed that in the 190 buildings connected with the organisation there were 218 Sunday afternoon and evening schools , with an average attendance of 43 , 957 ; 24 day schools , on the books of which were upwards of 2500 children ; 101 week night schools , attended by an average of 3490 ; and S 4 industrial classes , with 3 S 43 attending . The bands of hope had S 974
members ; in the penny banks there was deposited during the year over £ 9000 , of which there still remained at Christmas about £ 2000 . There were 3739 voluntary and S 4 paid teachers . During the year S 85 scholars went to situations from the schools , and more than 3000 children were sent to holiday homes for a fortnight . The receipts for the year amounted to £ 12 , 517 .
I he reception of Mr . H . M . Stanley at the Guildhall on Tuesday by Bro . the Lord Mayor and the Corporation proved to be one of the grandest spectacles of the season . 'The reception accorded to the great African traveller on his entering the historic hall was one of the most enthusiastic character . Bro . Lord Mayor Sir H . A . Isaacs , in introducing Mr . Stanley , referred to his introduction some
few years ago on receiving the honour of citizenship for his earlier services in Africa , and spoke of him as the redoubtable enemy of the slave trade . He then presented to Mr . Stanley the address or resolution passed by the Common Council before his departure for Africa , and offering him the Freedom of the City , the address being enclosed in a beautiful casket , covered with various
appropriate emblems . Having expressed his thanks for the gift , and expressed his opinion about Africa , he was entertained at a banquet , and then retired . Among the guests were Bros . Aird , M .
