Reports Of Masonic Meetings.

had rnide and sustained the reputation of the lodge , and this their VV . M . had kept up during the year in a truly Masonic minner . He congratulated the W . M . upon the eloquent manner in which he had delivered the charges to the lodge . This was the first occasion upon which these had been performed , and the lodge must be very proud to have such a Master . The Past Masters in their time had

done their best to establish and extend the reputation of the lodge , and they all had but the one object in view—of seeing it prosper . The Worshipful Master , in proposing "The Health of the Worshipful Mister Elect , " said he had neither to express surprise or regret at the choice which the lodge had made in electing bro . James Perkins to preside over them

for the ensuing year , as that brother would on all occasions carry out the dictates of the brethren in the manner they wished . Bro . Perkins had been associated with the lodge work in all the different capacities , and had gone , like himself , through every grade , and every Degree he had held he had filled in a proper and satisfactory manner . The office of Master would not be new to him , because he had passed

through the chair in the Mornington Lodge ; and , besides this , he was a Past Master of the Shipwrights' Company , so that he would well know how to carry out , not only the duties of the lodge , but of entertainment , and he was quite sure they would all join with him in drinking Bro . Peikins ' hearty good health , wishing him every success . He hoped for his own part in the course of a few months to hand

over to him the warrant as unsullied as he had received it from his predecessors . The Worshipful Master Elect suitably replied , hoping to be able to perform the duties which he had been elected to carry out with the same dignity with which their present Master had discharged them . " The Health of the Visitors" vta . s most cordially given

by the W . M , and was replied to by Bros . Edward Terry , W . Matthews ( from Paramatta , Australia ) , E . Stillwell , W . Haynes , and Minett ell . In proposing " Ihe Health of the Officers of the Lodge , " the W . M . remarked upon the unavoidable absence of Bro . Henry Squire , C . C , the J . W ., the Chairman ol the Library Commitiee , and also Bro . Henry Clarke , C . C .

Bro . Bnwley , the acting J . W ., congratulated the lodge upon its past success and its future prospects , and especially upon the progress it had made during the last year . Hro . J . C . Whiddington , who also replied , said the officers appreciated deeply the kind manner in which the

toast had been proposed and responded to . They were all burning to occupy the chair of W . M ., and they only hoped that they might be able to discharge the duties with as much dignity and hospitality as the present W . M . had done . The Tyler ' s toast concluded the proceedings .

Shelswell and Dr . Clift , which proved unanimous , and thc former being

in attendance , was duly initiated into the mysteries of the Craft by Bro . Moore , in a style reflecting the greatest credit on himself , and , although it was necessarily his maiden effort , yet his rendering of the ceremony was of a practised hand . The lodge having been closed , the brethren subsequently sat down to a most recherche banquet , provided by Bro . Tydeman , P . P . G . P . Essex , the host , the table being

profusely decorated with lovely flowers and the choicest fruits that could be obtained . Full justice having been done to the good things , the W . M . rose to propose the first toast , which he said we , as loyal subjects and good Masons always honoured , " Ihe Queen and Craft . " The toast having been drunk in bumpers " Ihe Grand and Prov . Grand Officers " were similarly

honoured . Bro . Mackie I . P . M ., proposed thc toast' of "The VV . M ., " which was ably responded to ; the VV . M . next proposed the toastof "The Initiate , " which was responded toby Bro . H . T . Shelswell ; then followed the toasts of "The Immediate and Past Masters , " alter which Bro .
