responded on behalf of " The Pro Grand Master and the rest of the Grand Officers , " They had , he said , some good specimens of Grand Ofiicers present in thc persons of Bros . Raymond Thrupp , 'Thomas , Lott , and Cubitt . He could not allow that occasion to pass without expressing the pleasure he felt at assisting at the installation of Bro . Pritchard , who had learnt his Masonry in the Emulation Lodge of Improvement , in which , as they

knew , . he took a deep interest . He congratulated the W . M . on attaining the summit of his ambition , which was a very proper one for every true Mason . Those who had not heard him would , he ventured to say , be surprised at the way in which he would do his work when the opportunity came . The next toast was that of " The R . W . P . G . Master , Sir Francis Burdett ; the Dep . G . M ., Bro . Raymond Thrupp ; and the Prov . G . Officers . " The P . G . M . had excused

himself from attending on account of having to be present at Marlborough House on that afternoon , but they had the Deputy Grand Master present , as well as Bros . Cubitt , J . Lewis Thomas , and Dr . Lott , who were also members of the lodge . Bro . Raymond Thrupp , in responding , said he was glad that they had installed such a good worker in the chair of the Campbell Lodge as Bro . Pritchard . The W . M . had received a certificate from the first of working Masons , and he felt sure he would not fail to honour that certificate . Bro .

Pritchard he felt sure would do his best to keep up the credit of the Campbell Lodge , in doing which he would be maintaining the reputation of the province . Bro . Lott then proposed "The Health of the W . M . " It gave him , he said , great pleasure to do this . For a long time he had been looking forward to the time when they should have Mm in the chair , and the encomiums that had been passed on him were not beyond his merits .

The W . M ., in reply , said he had come there with no set speeches , but he thanked them very heartily for the good opinion they had formed of him . It was true as they bad heard that four years ago that day he was sitting at the right of the W . M . as the newest initiate , and now he occupied the highest position which it was in the power of the lodge to confer on him . He may have exhibited overenthusiasm , but he could assure the brethren that he had

the welfare of the Campbell Lodge at heart . He desired to thank Bro Lott most heartily for proposing the toast in the kindly way in which he had done so . The W . M . next proposed " The Health of the Visitors , " and expressed the pleasure he felt at having several personal friends present . Bro , Hollis , who had come purposely from Leeds to attend the installation , responded .

The next toast was that of " The Past Masters of the Campbell Lodge . " They had all performed their duties thoroughly and stuck to the lodge . TheW . M . thanked Bro . Jones for installing him that evening . They had another worthy P . M . in their Chaplain , Bro . Moses , who , it was gratifying to find , was coming back to them . Bros . Lott and Moses responded on behalf of the Past

Masters . " The Treasurer and Secretary" was the next toast , and was replied to by Bros . Cubitt and Levander . " The Officers of the lodge , " and the Tyler ' s toast brought a very pleasant evening to a close . The pleasure of the brethren was much enhanced by some excellent songs by members and visitors .

PLUMSTEAD . —United Military Lodge ( No . 1536 ) . —The installation meeting of the above powerful Iodge took place on Friday , the gth inst ., at the Lord Raglan Assembly Rooms , Burrage-road , when Bro . VV . Maule , S . W ., W . M . elect , was , with the usual honour , placed in the chair of K . S ., according to ancient custom . The lodge was opened by Bro . W . Moulds , W . M ., and the usual busidess having been transacted , Bro . Lee was

M . gave the usual loyal and Grand Lodge toasts eloquently , and right loyally were they responded to by these gallant servants of her most gracious Majesty the Quean . The toast of "Earl Amherst , P . G . M . of Kent , " was received and drank with enthusiasm . , The toast of " Bro . Eastes , D . P . G . M ., and the rest of the P . G . Officers , Present and Past , " was coupled with thc names of Bros . Penfold and Aillud .

Reports Of Masonic Meetings.

Bro . Penfold , whose reception was of the warmest , said , in response , that he had had to respond to the toast upon several occasions duiing the past 12 months ; but that night he stood upon ( iimer ground . Formerly he was only a Steward , but now it had pleased his lordship their Prov . Grand Master to make him Prov . G . S . D ., and by so doing had reflected great honour upon the Pattison Lodge and also the United Military Lodge , ot which he I Bro . Penfold )

was an honorary member . When they considered that there were 54 lodges and 2 S 00 brethren in the province , and only some 11 or 12 collars to give away , they could easily understand the difficulty their D . G . M . had in making a selection from among so many good and true brethren . Therefore , to be so selected made the prize more valuable ; but there was another cause which made it valuable—their VV . M . had told them that he was struck with the urbanity with which

their Prov . Grand Master presided over Provincial Grand Lodge . Now , he ( Bro . Penfold ) had been a constant attendant at Provincial Grand Lodge for nearly 20 years , and well knew the great impression made by Earl Amherst during the now nearly a quarter of a century that he had presided over the Province of Kent , where , if possible , he was more respected , and the attachment to him was stronger than ever , that gave the zest to the receiving and

wearing a collar under such a Grand Master in such a province . On behalf of himself and his colleague , 3 ro . Aillud , he thanked them , and they might depend upon it that he and Bro . Aillud would do their duty . At present he did not know what the duties were , but whatever they were , onerous or light , they would do them to the best of their ability . His sympathies vvere , next to the Pattison , with the United Military Lodge , in which he felt it a great

honour to have his name coupled with so important a toast . Bro . Aillud could only say "ditto" to Bro . Penfold ' s remarks . He was not connected with the district lodges , but some years ago he was a member of the Pattison Lodge . The collar of the Province of Kent was next to that of the Grand Lodge of England , and as such he looked upon it . He was proud of such a collegue as Bro . Penfold , and proud of having his name coupled with the

toast , for which he heaitily thanked them . The I . P . M , Bio . Moulds , then proposed the toast of "The Worshipful Master , " and said that he knew they would receive it with acclamation , and drink it in bumpers , for in Bro . Maule they had a Master who would well and ably sustain the integrity of the lodge , and discharge the duties of his ofiice with honour to himself , and credit to the brethren . He congratulated the lodge on its choice

of such a Master , and asked them to drink the toast with all thc enthusiasm it deserved . Bro . Maule , who was heartily cheered as he rose to respond , said hc could harrly find words to thank them for their hearty reception of his name . AH he could say was , that if the brethren would only give him plenty of work , he would so devote his best energies to the welfare of the lodge , that it warrant would , at the end of his year

of office , be handed to his successor as he had received it —pure ancl unsullied . The toast of "The Installing Officer" having been honoured , and Bro . Moulds having responded , that of " The Past Masters " followed , and Bro . yloulds vvas presented with a handsome Past Master ' s jewel , of the value of ten guineas , for which he _ feelingly returned thanks . Bro . Deeves , who has just returned from service in

Natal , responded forthe Past Masters . He said he thanked them kindly for coupling his name with the toast , as it gave him an opportunity of saying something about himselt . There vvere a good many Past Masters , officers , and brethren , vvho vvere members vvhen he left to go te South Africa , some of them vvere getting sere and grey in the service of the lodge , and others who vvere then in it vvere gone , one never to return , he alluded to their esteemed and

lamented Bro . Holleyman , while Past Masters Pownafl , Picken , Welding , and Saunders vvere gone , he trusted yet to return . Those who were left had done their duty well , and all would agree with him vvhen he said that they had made the lodge one of the foremost in the province ol Kent , and as they had done in the past so they would do in the future . He vvas one of the founders of the lodge , and vvhen Bro . Bates placed tbe first collar on his neck as an

officer , that of D . C , he did not know what the duties were , but before the year vvas out hc had filled every office temporarily from S . W . to I . G . He had been away five years , but had not been idle all that time , for he had been working very bard for Freemasonry at Natal , where he had achieved great honours , and gone up to the 1 S . He could not sit down without publicly thanking Bro . Spinks for sending him every week the Freemason , in vvhich he saw month after month how they vvere getting on at their

meetings , and year after year who vvas put into the chair , and who got office . He and all the Masons in Natal looked eagerly every week tor their Freemason , and he did not know hoiv he should have got on without it . He then resumed his seat amid applause . Bro . Ovenden and Sparks also responded . " The Visitors , " "The Officers , " and Tyler ' s toast concluded the proceedings , vvhich were interspersed by some good singing by Bros . Nichols , Anson , Deans , and Sanderson . Bro . Hancock presiding at the piano .

The toast of "Earl Amherst , P . G . M . of Kent , " was received and drank with enthusiasm . , The toast of " Bro . Eastes , D . P . G . M ., and the rest of the P . G .
