very successful outing that day , and the satisfactory manner in whicli he had arranged for the comfort of the assembled guests . He ( Bro . Inder ) trusted tha t Bro . Parish might be spared for many years to assist in making these outings agreeable . The W . M . replied that it was always a pleasure to him to do anything he

could to make thc Finsbury Park Lodge successful , and he trusted that as long as he had health and strength he would always do his best to make the ladies ' nights and summer outings as agreeable as possible , especially when he was supported by the presence of so many amiable ladies , and so energetic a Secretary as Past Master Oldis , who had done everything possible for the comfort of all present .

The party then again entered the vehicles , and were driven to Grantham Station , where the saloons were immediately entered attached to the London express , which duly arrived at Finsbury Park about io p . m ., when the company separated , after congratulating each other that it was one of the most successful outings the lodge had ever enjoyed , and that their thanks tvere due to the Great Northern Railway Company for the facilities given .

The Iodge having been closed , the brethren and their visitors journeyed by train to Hampton Court , where at Tagg ' s Island an excellent luncheon was served . The next pleasant feature was a run up the river to Cherlsey in one of Tagg ' s steam launches . The day , unfortunately , although dry , was sunless , and the scenery necessarily did not appear to advantage . The return was made to the Mitre Hotel at u . 30 , where the banquet , admirably served , was heartily enjoyed .

Bro . James Boulton , P . G . Purst ., responded in happy terms for " The Grand Officers . " Bro . W . H . Kempster , jun ., I . P . M ., proposed in kindly vords "The Health of the VV . M . " In the course of his remarks , he said that he was justified in saying that the members and their guests that day had enjoyed the outing , the success of which was

mainly due to the kindness and liberality of the VV . M . Of Bro . Lardner s services as a worker not only in the Craft , but in other Degrees , he ( the speaker ) , as a younger Masnn , would not presume to dilate upon . The W . M . wis also well known in Masonic circles as a staunch supporter of their great Charitable Institutions , and wherever any gcod work could be performed he was always to the fore .

The toast was drunk with the greatest enthusiasm . The W . M . responded , thanking the brethren for the high honour they had conferred upon him that day , and assured them that the chair would not lose any of its lustre during his year of office . All he wanted was the co-operation of the Past Masters and members generally to make the year one of unqualified success .

The Worshipful Masters and Wardens of the Humber , Kingston , D ; Li Pole , Alexandra , and Londesborough Lodges , together with many brethren of the Craft , were also present . lhe speeches were interspersed with vocal and instrumental music , and the smiling faces of the members of the loige and their numerous visitors evinced the enjoyment which prevailed amongst all present . The banquet was provided by Mr . Feller , of the Imperial Hotel , and left nothing to be desired .

The regular meeting of this lodge was held on Tuesday , the ( 5 th inst ., at the Masonic Hall , Ilavant , and was well attended , it being for the purpose of installing the VV . M . elect , Bro . The VV . M . gave the toast of "Our Patron , II . I . M . the Queen , and Craft Masonry , " which was received in the enthusiastically loyal manner characteristic of the Scots Lodge . Immediately following on this , the toast of "H . R . H . the Prince of Wales , K . T ., our Most VVorshipful Grand Master , " was proposed by the VV . M ., who , in the course of his short speech , referred to the very great gratification which he personally had received from listening to his Royal Highness ' s well-c inceived and excellent speech on the occasion of the recent great gathering of b-ethren at the Albert Hall .

The W . M . next gave the toast of " The Grand Lodges of the Empire , " coupling with it the nime of Bro . Edmenston , a Past Grand Lodge Officer . In replying , Bro . Edmenston expressed the pleasure which he felt in being present at such a meeting , and stated that the minner in which the gatherings of the Scots Lodge were conducted gave great satisfaction and pleasure to the Grand Lodge . Bro . Whitehead , I . P . M , in proposing " The Health of the W . M ., Bro . Thomson , " referred to the very successful working of the lodge during the past year , due in very great part to the energetic and able manner in which affairs had been conducted by the

W . M . The Charity-box was at this stage passed round , and resulted in a good collection for all poor and distressed Masons . The Worshipful Master , in replying to his toast , stated that the responsibilities attached to the oflice of VV . M . press very heavily on the holder , and among these responsibilities none are more irksome than the burden of making speeches . As a little relief , he proposed , in place of adding one more to the many speeches he had made during his year of office , to sing a song .

The Worshipful Master then sung , " When the Kye come hame , " with expression and feeling . The Worshipful Master next proposed the toast of " Our Host , " referring to Bro . Clifton Robinson as one of the fathers of the tramway system of locomotion , and a most distinguished exponent of the systems of mechanical and electrical traction . Bro . Clifton Robinson , in the course of a very graceful and witty reply , thanked the brethren present for the enthusiastic way in which the toast had been received , and in referring to himself as a child of one of the greatest crafts on earth , expressed the great pleasure which he felt in receiving , and in giving the grasp of a friend and a brother .

The Worshipful Master next proposed "The Health of the Master Elect and Pas Masters , " _ To which Bro . Dr . Forbes , as Master elect , replied . In the course of an eloquen t speech , the Master elect expressed the opinion that a lodge whose membership was recruited from men of intellect , knowledge , and position , such as those who had that night been raised to the Degree of M . M ., had a great future before it , and he trusted that with the help of God and of the brethren , he should be able to make his year of office contribute in no small degree to the further successful development of the lodge .

Bros . Whitehead , P . M . ; Page , P . M . ; and Gillion , P . M ., also replied in suitable terms . The toast of "The Visitors" and of "The Scots Lodge Officers " were next proproposed by the VV . M ., and in each case were suitably acknowledged . The Tyler's toast followed , and the proceedings were brought to a close by the singing of " Auld Lang Syne . "

In the course of the evening songs were sung hy Bros . Powley , Sicklemore , Wheeler ., Weston , and Scrivener . Bro . Davidson Arnott , A . R . C . O ., the Organist , as usual , ably presided at thc piano .

M ., in proposing "The Queen and the Craft , " said the brethren had all had lately the opportunity of seeing and knowing more of her Mijesty , who hid gone through a very trying time with credit to herself . M , " he _ said the Prince of Wales had shown himself most devoted to the first Masonic principle of Charity j he had set a good example ; he had started a grand scheme , and had anticipated the charitable feelings of a large class of people , but of no class more than Masons .

Bro . Ihomas Fenn , P . G . W ., acknowledging the toast of " The Grand Officers , " said he used to look upon Bro . Brownrigg as his after-dinner protector , but he had lately had an advancement in rank , and he now had no protector . Bro . Brovnrigj used to answer for all the Grand Ollicers very well—no one mide such short speeches , and no one said so much in so few words . The brethren who were in lodge were much gratified at the way the work was done ; in fact , it occurred to him while it was going on that the School Board Lodge must have been to school at the Emulation Lodge of Improvement , of which he was the Preceptor many years .
