The Craft In The House Of Commons.
THE CRAFT IN THE HOUSE OF COMMONS .
We have continued our endeavours to discover who among the members of the new House of Commons are members of the Ancient and Honourable Society of Freemasons . We need hardly point out that the task is a tedious one , but we rejoice to say
that we have achieved a greater amount of success than we had any reason to anticipate . One of the earliest of our finds was that Bro . H . BEMROSE , who headed the poll for the borough of Derby , is a P . M . of the Tyrian Lodge , No . 253 , and a P . Z . of
the Chapter of Justice , No . 253 , assuming , at least , that the Aid . H . BEMROSE , who defeated Sir W . VERNON HARCOURT and Bro . H . ARNOLD BEMROSE , who possesses the Masonic rank tve have just stated , are one and the same person . Bro . the Hon .
G . H . ALLSOPP , who represents the city of Worcester , figures in the Derbyshire Calendar as a member of the Royal Sussex Lodge , No . 353 , Winshill , Burton-on-Trent , and a Life Governor of the Royal Masonic Institution for Girls . Bros . JOHN C . MACDONA
and E . BOULNOIS , who represent the Metropolitan constituencies of Rotherhithe and East Marylebone respectively , have their names entered in the Red Book issued quite recently by the Supreme Council , 33 , of the Ancient and Accepted Rite ,
as having taken the 18 or Degree of Rose Croix , and from the same source we learn that Bro . A . H . SMITH BARRY , who was successful in retaining his seat for South Huntingdonshire , has also been perfected Rose Croix . Bro . Sir E . STOCK HILL ,
M . P . for South Bristol , is a member of the Ivor Hael Rose Croix Chapter , No . 34 , Newport ( Mon . ) , and has taken the 30 , while Bro . the Right Hon . A . STAVELEY HILL , who represents the Kingswinford Division of Staffordshire , has held high office in
the Order of the Temple and has also taken the 30 ° in the Ancient and Accepted Rite . Bro . General LAURIE , M . P . for Ihe Pembroke Boroughs , who is a familiar figure in London Masonic Circles , is a Past Grand Master of Nova Scotia , and
this year had the brevet rank of a Past Grand Warden of England conferred upon him by H . R . H . the Grand Master , while Bro . Sir J . E . DORINGTON , Bart ., who represents the Tewkesbury Division of Gloucestershire , was Worshipful Master of the
Sherborne Lodge , No . 702 , Stroud , in 1871 and Provincial Senior Grand Warden of Gloucestershire in 1872 and 1873 . Bro . Sir JOSEPH SAVORY , Bart , the member for the Appleby Division of Westmoreland , represented the Lodge of Emulation ,
No . 21 , on the Board of Grand Stewards for 1891-2 , and Bro . the Hon . W . F . B . MASSEY-MAINWARING , the newly-chosen representative of Central Finsbury , represented the Globe Lodge , No . 23 , on
the Board of Stewards for 1892-3 . Bro . J . A . CHANNING , who has been again returned for East Northamptonshire , was W . M . in ' 88 9 of the Gordon Lodge , No . 1726 , Bognor . Bro . R . BIDDULPH MARTIN , who sits for the Droitwich Division of Worcestershire
Is i or was , Treasurer of the Westminster and Keystone Lodge a "d a member of the Oxford and Cambridge University Chapter ° f Rose Croix , No . 45 . Bro . A . GRAHAM MURRAY , Q . C , M . P . for Buteshire , is a member of the University Chapter ( Rose Croix ) , No .
3 ° , Cambridge . Bro . J AMES HOZIER , who sits for South Lanarkshire , is Prov . Grand Master of Lanarkshire , Upper Ward . Bro . Slr THOMAS SUTHERLAND , M . P . for Greenock , we have reason to believe is a Freemason , while Bro . H . J . TOLLEMACHE , who
" been returned for the Eddibbury Division of Cheshire , was "utiated in the Apollo University Lodge , No . 357 , Oxford , in ' % Bro . the Hon . II . V . DuNCOMBE is M . 111 Apollo University Lodge , in 188 7 . Lord STANLEY , who is M . P . for the Houghton Division of Lancashire , has , we believe , followed in the footsteps of his father , Bro . the Earl of DERBY , who , in 1883 , when Lord STANLEY OF PRESTON , was appointed Junior Grand Warden of England ; and thanks to information
furnished us by a correspondent , Bro . R . PURVIS , who has been returned for the city of Peterborough , was the first candidate to be initiated in the Fitzwilliam Lodge , No . 2533 , after its consecration in the month of February last , and is a candidate for exaltation to the Royal Arch Deoree
at the next meeting of St . Peter ' s Chapter , No . 442 . We have also been informed that Bros . Sir E . T . GOURLEY , M . P . for Sunderland , M . FOWLER , and T . RICHARDSON are members of lodges in the Province , Bro . FOWLER being the Treasurer of
No . 124 , and Bro . RICHARDSON , W . M . of No . 531 . Bro . W . E . M . TOMLINSON , the junior representative of Preston , is a leading member of the Craft in West Lancashire , in which Province he ranks as Past Provincial Grand Warden . We havo
always understood , though we cannot vouch for the correctness of the report , that Col . HOWARD VINCENT and the Ri ght Hon . C . B . STUART WORTLEY , who sit for the Central and Hallam Divisions of Sheffield , are Masons , while it will be seen that Bro . T . DOLLING BOLTON , who retains his seat for North-East
Derbyshire , was appointed Deputy Grand Director of Ceremonies in 1883 . We have frequently seen the name of Bro . General Sir F . FrrzwYGRAM , who represents the Fareham Division of Hampshire , with the prefix Brother . We believe , too , that Bro . C . H . SEELEY , who is member for the city of
Lincoln , is also a member of our Order , but we cannot say if he is with any degree of certainty . However , we have every reason to suppose there are other M . Ps . who have been initiated into our mysteries , and when we find others , or if any of our readers
are able to furnish us with trustworthy information on the subject , we shall be pleased to publish a further list . Still , so fatas we have been able to carry our researches , we are able to show that Masons are by no means rare in the newly-elected House of Commons .

MASONIC PROGRESS IN SOUTH AUSTRALIA .
Eleven years ago the Grand Lodge of South Australia was constituted , with Bro . the Hon . Chief Justice S . J . WAY as its first M . W . Grand Master , the lodges under the three Constitutions then working in the colony being practically unanimous in
their desire for autonomy . To-day Bro . WAY , though he has not retained his office during the whole of the period that has since elapsed , is again the occupant of the Grand Master ' s chair , having some time since been elected to succeed Bro . the Earl of
KlNTORE , who during the time he was Governor of the colony presided over the Grand Lodge , with Bro . WAY as his niter eijo in the office of Pro Grand Master . Under the auspices of these two distinguished brethren the Craft has greatly prospered .
True the number of lodges on the roll has not been greatly augmented , there having been only nine consecrated under the South Australian Constitution . But if there has been no great numerical increase , there has been , what is of far greater
importance , a general strengthening and confirmation of Freemasonry in the colony . As the Grand Master pointed out in the speech he addressed to the meeting in Adelaide—which we reported last week—not only has a divided Craft been consolidated into a
united whole , but the seniority of the South Austialian Constitution to the other Constitutions on the great Australian continent has been recognised ; the ritual has been most carefully revised , and is now presented in such a form as
