The Prov . Grand Treasurer ' s annual balance sheet having been audited and found correct , was unanimously adopted . The PROV . GRAND TREASURER , referring to the balance sheet of the Kducational Fund , desired to mention that the income during the past year onl y sufficed to meet the payment of grants to the children on the fund , which brought them perilously near the time when a ballot for children would
nave to take place , unless the number of annual subscribers was augmented . He drew attention to the fact that the province comprised 2300 members , only 800 of whom were annual subscribers , showing that there is ample scope for an increase in the number of benefactors to the fund , and he commended the matier to the consideration of the brethren generally , and to the lodge Charity representatives in particular .
The PROV . GRAND SECRETARY read the annual report of the Board of Kenevolence . The report was unanimously confirmed . The PROV . GRAND TREASURER then proposed "That a donation of ; ou guineas be made from the Fund of Benevolence of this province to the Koyal Masonic Benevolent Institution . " In making the proposition , the
Prov . Grand Treasurer wished to mention a few facts showing the benefits received b y the province from the Royal Masonic Benevolent Institution . He said that al the present time the province had eight annuitants receiving in the aggregate / 312 a year ; the sum actually paid to them by the Instilution to the present time having been . £ 3725 . He wished he could sav lhat 'lie province had been equally generous to the Institution , but unfortunately "ieir contributions fell shoit of the amount received by £ < jSo . He trusted

A procession was then formed , and the brethren ( numbering about 300 ) marched in Masonic order to the Abbey Church , where divine service was conducted by the vicar and other clergy .
Bro . the Rev . C . H . CORYNDON BAKER , D . D ., P . P . G . Chap ., preached an eloquent and appropriate sermon from the text , 1 Kings vi-7 . "And the house , when it was in building , was built of stone made ready before it was brought thither : so that there was neither hammer nor axe nor any tool of iron heard in the house , while it was in building . "
A beautiful anthem , " Be ye all of one mind , " was specially composed for the occasion by Bro . F . W . Sykes , Mus . Bac , P . M . 566 , P . P . G . Org . The offertory , which amounted to £ 9 10 s ., was divided between the Educational Fund of the province and the Benovelent Fund of the St . Germain Lodge . At the conclusion of the service the procession was re-formed and
returned to the Mechanics' Institution . The brethren having resumed their places , the Prov . Grand Master then presented the Grand Lodge Charity Jewel to Bro . Arthur Jones , P . M . 236 , who had qualified under By-law 22 . The PROV . GRAND MASTER then addressed the Prov . Grand Lodge as follows : Worshipful Brethren , —The short time at our disposal will limit my customary annual address to a very few observations . In January last
your Prov . Grand Master had the honour of laying the Cape-stone of the Seamen ' s Institute at Middlesborough ; notwithstanding the inclement weather , the ceremony passed off with great Mat . On the 29 th March last occurred the lamented death of B'o . Thomas William Tew , Past Provincial Grand Master of West Yorkshire ; to this sad event I alluded more particularly at our Provincial Grand Chapter last May .
With regard to the Educational Fund of this province , I may remark that there are now 25 children receiving the benefit of this useful fund , at a cost of £ 188 per annum , and I would direct attention to the necessity for keeping up the annual subscriptions in accordance with the suggestion of the Prov . Grand Treasurer . It is most encouraging to observe that , although we are active in promoting our Local Fund , the claims which the Central Masonic
Chanties have upon us are duly regarded , and your vote to-day shows that the brethren are desirous of repaying , in some degree , the benefits this province is receiving from those Institutions from whom we receive so much . It is trusted that the lodges will make a determined effort to support the Royal Masonic Benevolent Institution , as the particular Charity which has been selected for this year ' s adoption . In conclusion , I would express the thanks

Grand honours . Six Provincial Grand Stewards to be nominated by the Royal , Camalodunum , Londesborough , Kingston , Sykes , and Marwood Lodges .
