Masonic Notes .
It has been given to few brethren to render such valuable services to the Craft in the sphere of Masonic duty in which they have moved as the Lleputy Grand Master of Ireland , and it is not , therefore , surprising that the leading members of that Constitution , who are in a position to appreciate fully the importance of those
services , should have availed themselves of the opportunity afforded them by his completion of a 26 years ' tenure of that office to present him with an address of congratulation . Bro . R . W . Shckleton , Q . C , J . P ., was appointed Deputy Grand Master by the late Duke of Lcinster , M . W . G . M ., in iS 6 y ; was re-appointed by
the late Duke of Abcrcorn on his installation as M . W . G . M . in 1875 ; and for the second time re-appointed in 18 S 6 , when the present Duke of Abercorn was chosen to succeed his father as head of Irish Masonry . During these years ho has never been known to be absent from his post except when prevented by
his professional avocations or deep affliction . Twice he has acted as Grand Master , on the lirst occasion after the death of the Duke of Lcinster and on the second after that of the past Duke of Abercorn . He presided at the installation of H . R . H . the Prince of Wales as Patron of the Order in Ireland and of the two Dukes of
Abercorn as Grand Master , and headed the deputation from Ireland which attended the installation of H . R . H , the Prince of Wales as M . W . G . M . of England in 1 S 75 . He has striven , and successfully , to maintain the dignity and prestige of Masonry on all occasions and by every means in his power , and it is no more than
natural—indeed , our Irish Brethren would have been wanting in their duty if they bad allowed so favourable an opportunity to pass without rendering honour to one to whom honour is so manifestly due . We trust that Bro . Sheklcton may bo spared for many years to
enjoy the respect and esteem of the Grand Master of Ireland and the oliicers ; ind members of bis Grand Lodge , as well as of the officers and members of the various Masonic bodies in Ireland with which he is connected .
