Grand Director of Ceremonies , and Assistant Grand Pursuivant of England . The VV . M . invested Bros . C . Spalding , S . W . ; Smith , J . W . ; W . J . Harris , P . P . G . A . D . C , Secretary ; Thomas , S . D . ; Wm . Cox , J . D . ; Stafford ,
I . G . ; and Martin , Tyler . Bro . C . Eltham , P . M ., Treas ., was elected the lodge ' s representative on the Provisional Charity Committee . Hearty thanks having been accorded Bro . Lucking for his services as Installing Master , the lodge was closed in due form . Subsequently the brethren sat down to a banquet , which was served by Bro . Ayling , and gave general satisfaction .
The Worshipful Master presided , and proposed the customary toasts . In responding for "The Grand Officers of England , " Bro . Lucking spoke hopefully of the prospects of Freemasonry under the guidance of such officers as the Earl of Carnarvon and the Earl of Lathom , and of such a Registrar as Bro . Philbrick , the Deputy Provincial Grand Master of Essex , whose genial influence , as the Grand
Master of West Yorkshire recently observed , " was like the silver and softening light of the moon at full upon us . " As evidence of the high position which the Craft maintained , Bro . Lucking added that the majority of the late and also of the present Government are Freemasons . Bro . John Tavlor , jun ., 1 . P . M ., and Prov . G . Std . Br ., responded for "The Provincial Grand Officers , " and , in
complimentary terms , proposed "The VV . M ., " whose health was heartily drunk . The Worshipful Master briefly acknowledged the toast , and proposed "The Past Masters . " In doing so he , on behalf of the lodge , presented Bro . Taylor with a handsome jewel in recognition of his services as W . M . during the past year ; and Bro . Taylor cordially thanked the
brethren for their kindness . The jewel was manufactured by Bro . George Kenning . in responding for" The Visitors , " Bro . Pate dwelt upon the universality of Freemasonry , and mentioned that when he was in Ismailia recently with Lord Wolseley , his
lordship forbade them taking stimulants . Fortunately , however , they happened to fall in with a French lodge , and the hospitality of their French brethren on several occasions prevented them going to bed feeling dry . The toast list was interspersed with songs and recitations , and altogether a most enjoyable evening was passed .

brethren for their kindness . The jewel was manufactured by Bro . George Kenning . in responding for" The Visitors , " Bro . Pate dwelt upon the universality of Freemasonry , and mentioned that when he was in Ismailia recently with Lord Wolseley , his
lordship forbade them taking stimulants . Fortunately , however , they happened to fall in with a French lodge , and the hospitality of their French brethren on several occasions prevented them going to bed feeling dry . The toast list was interspersed with songs and recitations , and altogether a most enjoyable evening was passed .
