ceremony of installing the W . M . elect , Bro . J . R . F . Lightowlers , S . W ., was ably performed , in the presence of a large number of brethren , by Bro . Albert Lucking , Prov . Grand Director of Ceremonies , and Assistant Grand Pursuivant of England . The VV . M . invested Bros . C . Spalding , S . W . ; Smith , J . W . ; W . J . Harris , P . P . G . A . D . C , Secretary ; Thomas , S . D . ; Wm . Cox , J . D . ; Stafford ,

I . G . ; and Martin , Tyler . Bro . C . Eltham , P . M ., Treas ., was elected the lodge ' s representative on the Provisional Charity Committee . Hearty thanks having been accorded Bro . Lucking for his services as Installing Master , the lodge was closed in due form . Subsequently the brethren sat down to a banquet , which was served by Bro . Ayling , and gave general satisfaction .

The Worshipful Master presided , and proposed the customary toasts . In responding for "The Grand Officers of England , " Bro . Lucking spoke hopefully of the prospects of Freemasonry under the guidance of such officers as the Earl of Carnarvon and the Earl of Lathom , and of such a Registrar as Bro . Philbrick , the Deputy Provincial Grand Master of Essex , whose genial influence , as the Grand

Master of West Yorkshire recently observed , " was like the silver and softening light of the moon at full upon us . " As evidence of the high position which the Craft maintained , Bro . Lucking added that the majority of the late and also of the present Government are Freemasons . Bro . John Tavlor , jun ., 1 . P . M ., and Prov . G . Std . Br ., responded for "The Provincial Grand Officers , " and , in

complimentary terms , proposed "The VV . M ., " whose health was heartily drunk . The Worshipful Master briefly acknowledged the toast , and proposed "The Past Masters . " In doing so he , on behalf of the lodge , presented Bro . Taylor with a handsome jewel in recognition of his services as W . M . during the past year ; and Bro . Taylor cordially thanked the

brethren for their kindness . The jewel was manufactured by Bro . George Kenning . in responding for" The Visitors , " Bro . Pate dwelt upon the universality of Freemasonry , and mentioned that when he was in Ismailia recently with Lord Wolseley , his

lordship forbade them taking stimulants . Fortunately , however , they happened to fall in with a French lodge , and the hospitality of their French brethren on several occasions prevented them going to bed feeling dry . The toast list was interspersed with songs and recitations , and altogether a most enjoyable evening was passed .

Flinn , 1 S 29 , who had been elected at a previous convocation , being in attendance , was duly exalted to the Supreme Decree of a Royal Arch Mason . Comp . S . Peters , J ., was then presented with a valuable diamond ring by the M . E . Z ., Comp . T . Packham , in the name of the companions , for his excellent and meritorious services

to Royal Arch Masonry while for several years filling the office of Scribe E . to the Yarborough Chapter , especially in preserving and resuscitating this chapter when it was all but extinct , and raising it to the first position in the province by his energy and perseverance . Comp . T . Packham , in an excellent speech on making the presentation , enumerated the good services which Comp . S . Peters had rendered , and the latter , in a few feeling remarks , suitably responded . The chapter was then closed .

YORK . —Eboracum Chapter ( No . 1611 ) . —The October meeting of this chapter was held on the 6 th inst ., when there were present Comps . G . Simpson , Z . ; M . Millington , H . ; J . T . Seller , P . Z ., as J . ; Wm . Brown , P . S . ; and about 15 other members and visitors . Letters of apology for absence were read from Comp . T . B . Whytehead , P . Z ., and others . The business consisted of the exaltation of Bro . Wm . Storey , 1611 , which was done by the M . E . Z ., the mystical lecture being given by E . Comp . Seller .

After the close of the chapter , the companions met at supper , under the presidency of the M . E . Z ., and a very pleasant evening was passed , interspersed by toasts and songs .

It is worthy of note that four of the Past Grand Officers present at this lodge were Grand Officers during the year in which H . R . H . the Prince of Wales was advanced into the Degree of Mark Masonry , and consequently took leading parts in that ceremony .

After lodge had been closed , the brethren adjourned to a banquet at the White Hart Hotel , which was liberall y provided and well served by the new host , Mr . E . P . Taylor , and gave much satisfaction . All the brethren who had been present at lodge , with one exception , sat down to the dinner .

SUPREME COUNCIL ( 33 ) . — This council held their ordinary meeting at 33 , Golden-square , on Tuesday , the 13 th inst ., under the presidency of M . 111 . Bro . Capt . N . G . Samuel Rawson , 33 . He was glad to say that the reports regarding Bro . Rawson were favourable , and he hoped that , under God ' s blessing , he might be soon restored to

health and again attend the meetings of the A . and A . Rite . The resignation of the Inspector General of the S . W . District was reported and noted . The Lieut . Grand Commander welcomed as a ^ visitor 111 . Bro . Hargreaves , 33 ° , of Brazil , who had favoured the meeting with his presence . In conclusion , the Lieutenant Grand Commander referred with satisfaction to the state of the

balance-sheet , and the satisfactory position of the chapter's working under the Supreme Council , urging members of the 30 to do their best , by presence and example , to keep up the tone and the good working of the Rose Croix bodies to which they were attached . The brethren dined together in the evening at the Cafe Royal , when the usual loyal and Masonic toasts were given .

, and others . The minutes of the previous meeting having been read and confirmed , the election of Eminent Commander for the year ensuing resulted unanimousl y in favour of Sir Knt . Graveley . Sir Knt . Paas was unanimously re-elected Treasurer . Sir Knts . Storr , Spence , and Parry were elected Auditors . It was proposed by Sir Knt . Paas , and seconded by Sir Knt . Williams , that a jewel be presented

The minutes of the previous council having been read and confirmed , the ballot was taken on behalf of Bros . J . and A . Harris , both of the Jordan Lodge , and it proving to be unanimous , they were installed as Knights of the Red Cross of Rome and Constantine by the M . P . S ., ably

The M . of the 1 . having complimented the lecturer on the erudition and research displayed in his essay , a cordial vote of thanks to him was passed unanimously . It was notified that the lecture , almost complete , would be published in the Freemason ( a few mystic and occult Rosicrucian references only being omitted ) . After the closing of the mystic circle the majorit y of the fratres dined together and honoured the custoniary toasts .

Grand Director of Ceremonies , and Assistant Grand Pursuivant of England . The VV . M . invested Bros . C . Spalding , S . W . ; Smith , J . W . ; W . J . Harris , P . P . G . A . D . C , Secretary ; Thomas , S . D . ; Wm . Cox , J . D . ; Stafford ,

I . G . ; and Martin , Tyler . Bro . C . Eltham , P . M ., Treas ., was elected the lodge ' s representative on the Provisional Charity Committee . Hearty thanks having been accorded Bro . Lucking for his services as Installing Master , the lodge was closed in due form . Subsequently the brethren sat down to a banquet , which was served by Bro . Ayling , and gave general satisfaction .

The Worshipful Master presided , and proposed the customary toasts . In responding for "The Grand Officers of England , " Bro . Lucking spoke hopefully of the prospects of Freemasonry under the guidance of such officers as the Earl of Carnarvon and the Earl of Lathom , and of such a Registrar as Bro . Philbrick , the Deputy Provincial Grand Master of Essex , whose genial influence , as the Grand

Master of West Yorkshire recently observed , " was like the silver and softening light of the moon at full upon us . " As evidence of the high position which the Craft maintained , Bro . Lucking added that the majority of the late and also of the present Government are Freemasons . Bro . John Tavlor , jun ., 1 . P . M ., and Prov . G . Std . Br ., responded for "The Provincial Grand Officers , " and , in

complimentary terms , proposed "The VV . M ., " whose health was heartily drunk . The Worshipful Master briefly acknowledged the toast , and proposed "The Past Masters . " In doing so he , on behalf of the lodge , presented Bro . Taylor with a handsome jewel in recognition of his services as W . M . during the past year ; and Bro . Taylor cordially thanked the

brethren for their kindness . The jewel was manufactured by Bro . George Kenning . in responding for" The Visitors , " Bro . Pate dwelt upon the universality of Freemasonry , and mentioned that when he was in Ismailia recently with Lord Wolseley , his

lordship forbade them taking stimulants . Fortunately , however , they happened to fall in with a French lodge , and the hospitality of their French brethren on several occasions prevented them going to bed feeling dry . The toast list was interspersed with songs and recitations , and altogether a most enjoyable evening was passed .

to Royal Arch Masonry while for several years filling the office of Scribe E . to the Yarborough Chapter , especially in preserving and resuscitating this chapter when it was all but extinct , and raising it to the first position in the province by his energy and perseverance . Comp . T . Packham , in an excellent speech on making the presentation , enumerated the good services which Comp . S . Peters had rendered , and the latter , in a few feeling remarks , suitably responded . The chapter was then closed .

YORK . —Eboracum Chapter ( No . 1611 ) . —The October meeting of this chapter was held on the 6 th inst ., when there were present Comps . G . Simpson , Z . ; M . Millington , H . ; J . T . Seller , P . Z ., as J . ; Wm . Brown , P . S . ; and about 15 other members and visitors . Letters of apology for absence were read from Comp . T . B . Whytehead , P . Z ., and others . After the close of the chapter , the companions met at supper , under the presidency of the M . E . Z ., and a very pleasant evening was passed , interspersed by toasts and songs .

balance-sheet , and the satisfactory position of the chapter's working under the Supreme Council , urging members of the 30 to do their best , by presence and example , to keep up the tone and the good working of the Rose Croix bodies to which they were attached . The brethren dined together in the evening at the Cafe Royal , when the usual loyal and Masonic toasts were given .

The M . of the 1 . having complimented the lecturer on the erudition and research displayed in his essay , a cordial vote of thanks to him was passed unanimously . It was notified that the lecture , almost complete , would be published in the Freemason ( a few mystic and occult Rosicrucian references only being omitted ) . After the closing of the mystic circle the majorit y of the fratres dined together and honoured the custoniary toasts .
