toast of " The Visitors , made an excellent speech , in which he gave some interesting reminiscences of Masonic life and working in Jersey . The proceedings were greatly enhanced by the admirable singing and pianoforte playing of Bro . Sharpley , the Organist to the lodge .

Domatic Lodge ( No . 177 ) . —The first regular meeting of the winter session of this lodge was held at Anderton ' s Hotel , Fleet-street , on Friday , the gth instant , when the following members were present : Bros . M . 174 ; and W . VV . Lee , S . W . 23 S 1 , S . D . 1 S 97 .

The lodge was opened and the minutes confirmed , and Bros . H . Hooper , A . E . Hooper , and H . J . Wade were raised to the Third Degree . Messrs . G . W . Rapley , C A . Curtis , and George Clarke were then impressively initiated into Freemasonry . Other business was transacted , and the lodge was formally closed , and the brethren adjourned to a substantial banquet . The customary toasts were subsequently heartily given , and well received .

Bro . Geo . Everett , Grand 1 reasurer , in reply to " The Grand Officers , " said it was good of the brethren to receive the toast in the cordial manner they had , although it was not unexpected by him . He was much obliged to the W . M . for submitting it in the kind way he had . It was a very proud moment in his life to rise in the lodge , with which he had been connected for 34 years , and be able to respond for

the Grand Officers of England . In giving the toast the W . M . spoke of his being the first Grand Treasurer that lodge had ever had , and he was quite correct . During his time there had been three other Grand Officers in the lodge , but they held very different offices to his , and they were selected Grand Officers , while he was an elected Grand Officer . The Grand Officers were , with one exception ,

selected by the M . W . G . M ., and any brother so selected had a right to esteem it a great honour ; but if it was an honour to be so selected , how much greater a compliment was it to be elected by the whole Craft ? He stood in that position that night , and represented the Craft of England and felt proud of the position . He was not unmindful of the fact that he owed his position to

many in that lodge , and also to many who were visitors that evening . Bro . Cochrane , P . M . 3 , took a very prominent part in his election , and there were others who were kind and did all they could . The Grand Officers of the past had been very distinguished men of high social position and earned high reputation for the way they upheld the traditions and principles of Freemasonry , and the present Grand Officers were desirous of emulating their good example .

It was a great gratification to them to know the toast was always received so well , and to know that their efforts to maintain the great principles of the Craft were appreciated . Bro . N . Salmon , I . P . M ., gave "The Worshipful Master , " and said the brethren all knew Bro . Goodfellow's excellent qualities and the manner in which he could work in the lodge , and they also knew that he had the interests and welfare of the Domatic Lodge at heart . It needed no

words to recommend the W . M . to their notice , and all he could do was to ask the brethren to drink the toast as heartily as it deserved , as the VV . M . was by nature and by name a jolly " Goodfellow . " Bro . S . B . Goodfellow , VV . M ., returned thanks , and said

that , as the I . P . M . had stated , the interest of the lodge was dear to his heart . It was his great ambition to be the VV . M . of the Domatic Lodge , and whatever he could do he should be only too p leased to do for its welfare . The working was not done quite as well as he should have liked , as he was nervous , but he hoped the brethren would forgive his

shortcomings . Bro . W . J . Ferguson , P . M ., in cordial terms gave "The Initiates , " which was appropriately acknowledged . Bro . S . Cochrane , P . M . 3 , in acknowledging the toast of "The Visitors , " proposed by Bro . White , P . M ., said this was the first time he had had the honour of visiting that lodge , although he had received many invitations . He felt

bound to attend that ni g ht to thank the members for the kind support given him at the presentation of Grand Officer ' s clothing to Bro . Everett . He particularly thanked Bros . Price , P . M ., and Ferguson , P . M ., for their exertions on that occasion . He also thanked the brethren for the reception given the visitors' toast , and only wished that every lodge in London could perform the work as the W . M .

and officers had done it that night . Bro . Christopher Sims , W . M . 120 S , expressed the pleasure it afforded him to be present that evening , as Bro . Everett visited his lodge at Dover a short time ago , and he hoped that honour would be repeated on many future occasions . He had been gratified at the manner in which the work was performed , and was also gratified to learn that the lodge

had done so much for the Charities in the past . He hoped their efforts in that direction would be continued in the future , for their Institutions were the backbone of the Craft . Bro . Bruce Sellar , 39 S ( S . C ) , also replied , after which Bro . Price , P . M ., responded on behalf of "The Past Masters . " " The Officers" was given and acknowledged , and the Tyler's toast terminated an enjoyable evening .

Islington Lodge ( No . 1471 ) . —The opening meeting was held on Thursday , the Sth inst ., at the Cock Tavern , Highbury , the following brethren being present : Bros . J . M . Scarlett , P . S . G . W . Essex , W . M . ; H . B . Harding , S . W . ; C . M . Coxon , J . W . ; S . Napper , I . P . M . ; J . L . Mather , P . A . G . D . C , Treas . ; E . Blinkhorn , P . M ., Sec . ; R . Henry Dove , a candidate for initiation , and proving unanimous in his favour , he was duly

admitted . The sum of ten guineas was voted for the list of the VV . M . as Steward at a forthcoming - festival . Several communications having been read , the lodge was closed . The brethren sat down to a substantial repast served under the direction of Bro . Palmer , the manager of the hotel , and the usual toasts were duly honoured . The Worshipful Master , in replying to the toast of his

health , thanked the brethren for the hearty manner in which they had received it . His position was one to which he had looked forward for years , but great as the honour was to rule over a lodge like that it was but brief . Looking round and seeing the numberof aspiring brethren animated with the idea which had urged him forward , his regret would he lessened when the time came for him to vacate the

chair in favour of his successor , but when relegated to a place among the Past Masters he trusted that his interest in the lodge would still remain unabated . In proposing " The Health of the Initiate " the Worshipful Master said they were pleased to welcome him amongst them ; from what " they had seen of him so far , they had no doubt he would prove a good and worthy member of the lodge .

Bro . H . Dove , in reply , said he leared he could scarcely find fitting words to express the pleasure he felt in his present position . He thanked the brethren very warmly for the manner in which they had received him as one of them , and hoped to prove himself not unworthy of the honour they had done him . "The Past Masters " and " The Officers of the Lodge " followed , the Tyler's toast bringing a very pleasant evening to a close .

Royal Commemoration Lodge ( No . 15 S 5 ) . —The opening meeting of the season was held at the White Lion Hotel , Putney , on Wednesday , the 7 th inst ., when there were present Bros . E . After the lodge had been opened , and the minutes of the May meeting read and confirmed , Bro . Gibbons was duly passed to the Degree of a F . C , and Bros . Preston and Grimshaw were impressively raised to the Degree of M . M . Bro . Williams , P . M ., volunteered his services as Steward

to the Royal Masonic Benevolent Institution , and 25 guineas were voted by the lodge to head his list . Two gentleman were proposed for initiation at the next meeting . The Secretary was asked to write to Bro . Jesse Collings , P . M ., D . C , expressing the feeling of the lodge that there must have been some untoward reason for his absence that evening ( his first absence since the consecration of the lodge ) , and after " Hearty good wishes" had been given the lodge

was closed , and the brethren adjourned to dinner . After dinner the usual loyal and Masonic toasts were heartily responded to , as were those of " The VV . M ., " "The Visitors , " "The Past Masters , " "The Treasurer and Secretary , " and "The Officers , " and the Tyler's toast closed the proceedings . Bros . The ballot was taken for Mr . Reep , who was afterwards initiated most ably . Bro . F . Williams , W . M . 101 , was unanimously elected a joining member . Bro . H . Martin , the W . M . elect , was then presented by Bro . J .

Dunn , I . P . M ., to the Worshipful Master , Bro . Jeffery , to receive the benefits of installation , which ceremony was most commendably carried out in a Board of 35 Installed Masters . The Worshipful Master , Bro . H . Martin , then invested his officers in capital style as follows : Bros . J . H . Pullen , S . VV . ; S . Derham , J . VV . ; John Loader , P . M .,

Sec . ; J . Kirby , Treas . ; T . Pickett , S . D . ; VV . Castledine , J . D . ; Dr . Webb , I . G . ; J . Parr and W . Dawson , Stwds . ; F . Choveaux , Org . ; S . Ballard , A . D . C . ; and Bowler , Tyler . The addresses were then given in a masterly manner by the Installing Master , Bro . VV . Jeffery . The lodge being closed , the brethren adjourned to the banquet , which was done ample justice to .

The Worshipful Master gave the usual loyal and Masonic toasts in a few very appropriate terms , which were received enthusiastically . The toast of " The Pro Grand Master , Deputy Grand Master , and the rest of the Grand Officers , Present and Past , " was dwelt on very suitably by the Worshipful Master , who remarked the time and labour they bestowed

for the benefit of the Craft . The toast was most heartily received . The toast of " The W . M . " was next given by the I . P . M ., who stated that he was once more entrusted with the gavel which he heartily sounded in order that this toast should receive the attention of all present . All most cordially wished the VV . M . health and happiness during his

year of office . He was confident the work would be carried out most efficiently . The W . M . was now rewarded for the manner he had performed his duties to the lodge since his initiation , and he wished him a prosperous year . The toast having been drunk with acclamation , the Worshipful Master , in reply , stated that he was proud to be in such a position . He had always had the confidence

of the brethren , for only a few months after initiation he was made the Secretary , which duties he carried on some years . The success of the lodge , and his ability to work in the manner in which every VV . M . ou < jht , was due to the great care and instruction received at the hands of Bro . Rose , P . M ., the worthy Preceptor of the Rose Lodge of Instruction . He hoped to emulate the I . P . M .

That of "The Initiate" was next given , the VV . M . remarking that no lodge could well exist without good and true men , which he trusted the brother initiate would become the more he knew of Freemasonry . The Initiate , in reply , said he would take up the Worshipful Master ' s words and say it would be his endeavour to become a good and true Freemason and worthy of the

Rose Lodge . "The Visitors" was given in very appropriate terms by the Worshipful Master , who remarked that the Rose Lodge heartily welcomed them . There was a very long array , many of them were very distinguished and personal friends of his for many years standing . He trusted they had all enjoyed the hospitality extended them . In reply , Bro . Mussared stated it was the longest list of

visitors that he had ever been called upon to reply to . The VV . M . was one of his oldest friends , and with whom he had never had a wry word . He had himself been recently installed , but what he had seen that evening he hoped he might be able to carry out on his successor when the time came and with as much credit . He hoped the W . M . might have health and strength and a most successful year of office .

Bros . Bladon , Parkinson , Butt , Luckhurst , and Phillips , one and all , agreed in congratulating the lodge on their choice of W . M ., and the efficient working they had witnessed throughout , in fact it was remarked that the installation ceremony had never been worked better . They were pleased to be present that evening to do honour to so worthy a VV . M .

The toast of " The Past Masters and Installing Master " was next given , the W . M . remarking that their valuable services were always given most freely , and they performed any duty that they , one and all , were called upon to fulfil . Such an array of P . M . 's were really the backbone of the lodge , and were particularly helpful to the W . M . He

would specially ask Bro . Jeffery , the [ . P . M ., to accept the jewel so unanimously voted him by the lodge for the splendid manner he had conducted the lodge during the past year . He hoped he might long be spared to wear it , and trusted that he might at the end of his year of office deserve a similar token for carrying out the duties of the

" " The Officers" was given and acknowledged , and the Tyler's toast terminated an enjoyable evening .

"The Past Masters " and " The Officers of the Lodge " followed , the Tyler's toast bringing a very pleasant evening to a close .

to the Royal Masonic Benevolent Institution , and 25 guineas were voted by the lodge to head his list .

Bros . The lodge was opened , and the minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed . Bro . Nelthropp was then raised in a most perfect manner by the Worshipful Master .
