he was fortunate in being an honorary member of the Kingsland Lodge , although it was five years since he had the pleasure of attending . He was present at the consecration , and assisted in ttiat ceremony , and for many years was a regular attendant . He hoped to be present on many future installation nights , for there was no lodge he attended with so much pleasure as the Kingsland Lodgre .
Bro . W . T . H . Mayer , I . P . M ., in submitting " The Worshipful Master , " said he was sure the toast would meet with heatty approbation . In Bro . Hazel they had a W . in store for it in having so worthy a Mason to preside as Bro . Hazel had proved himself to be . He also congratulated the I . P . The Worshipful Master next gave "The Installing and Immediate Past Master , " and said the members all knew the wayin which Bro . Mayer had worked forthe Kingsland Lodge
during the years of trial and trouble it had gone through . He was happy to say they were now out of that trouble , and the excellent condition of the lodge was due to the I . P . M ., who had occupied the chair during the past two years . The brethren had heard Bro . Mayer in the various ceremonies at different times , and knew he had rendered them in a splendid manner and done his duty well .
Bro . W . T . H . Mayer , I . P . M ., thanked the VV . M . most heartily for the eulogiums passed upon his conduct during the time he had filled the chair . Whatever had been done had been from a sense of duty not only towards the lodge , but to ensure the comfort of the members individually and collectively . It had been his utmost endeavour to bring this lodge to a successful issue after troublesome times , and he was amply repaid for any trouble . The W . M . had paid
him extraordinary compliments , but he had only done his duty . He wished the W . M . every success during the ensuing year , at the conclusion of which he knew the brethren would pass the same compliments to Bro . Hazel as they had to himself . Other toasts were given , and the proceedings terminated with the Tyler ' s toast . Under the direction of Bro . Windsor , Org ., an excellent musical programme was carried out .
Trinity College Lodge ( No . 1765 ) . —The first meeting after the summer recess took place at No . 13 , Mandeville-place , W ., on Thursday , the 1 st inst ., Bro . T . E . Biddlecombe , W . Reed and Robert Sladdin , after having been balloted for and elected , were initiated . The brethren then proceeded to elect the W . M . for the coming year , and the choice was unanimous in favour of Bro . Sargeant , the respected S . W . With the same unanimity Bro . J . A .
Hammond , P . M ., was re-elected Treasurer , and Bro . Geo . Harrison re-elected to the office of Tyler . Bros . Bennett , Geary , and Robinson were appointed Auditors . On the proposition of Bro . Burritt Lane , seconded by Bro . Hammond , a Past Master ' s jewel was voted to Bro . Biddlecombe . Several candidates for initiation ; and a joining member were proposed . The lodge being closed , the
brethren adjourned for refreshment and harmony . The usual loyal toasts and that of " The Grand Officers " having been proposed and duly honoured . The I . P . M ., Bro . Burritt Lane , in his most happy manner , proposed "The Health of the W . M ., " to which Bro . Biddlecombe succinctly replied , hoping that their growing numbers would increase during the years of office of his
successors . Other toasts were proposed , and responded to as briefly as the occasion would admit , harmony and not oratory being the art most favoured by the lodge . The Tyler ' s toast brought the proceedings to a close . Among the contributors to the harmony were Bros . H . Tinney , Sladdin , Sargeant , and Sinclair Dunn .
Strand Lodge ( No . 198 7 ) . —The installation meeting of this lodge was held on the Sth instant at the Criterion , Piccadilly , when Bro . Edward Norton Dale , W . M ., presided , supported by his officers and a good assemblage of lay brethren . He passed Bros . Jean Louis Aubanel and Alfred Sparks to the Second Degree , and initiated Mr . George Grey Bound , Bro . J . R . Stacey acting
as I . P . M . The VV . M . afterwards installed Bro . Horace Selby Foster , S . W . and VV . M . elect , as W . M ., and Bro . Dale was invested as I . P . M . The officers to assist the W . felt very much gratified in proposing that very important toast , because the W . M . and he were initiated in the Strand Lodge together . By some unfortunate circumstances he ( Bro . Dale ) accidentally signed before Bro . Foster , otherwise their positions would have been reversed that evening . But he felt very proud at having to propose Bro . Foster ' s health , because he was sure Bro . Foster would have a successful year of office , and one proof of that was the list
of gentlemen who had sent in their names for entering the lodge . Another proof of a successful year was the list of good officers he had to assist him . Without good officers a W . M . had not much chance of getting on . The Worshipful Master , after the toast had been most warmly received , said he felt that it was impossible to respond adequately to the toast so kindly proposed by Bro . Dale , and so heartily responded to by the brethren . All he

could say was he felt thankful to the brethren for electing him to the post of VV . M ., and that he would do his best to obtain a vote of thanks from the brethren at the end of next October . He next proposed " The Installing Master and the Past Masters . " He had already , in presenting the jewel to the Installing Master , said a few words on that brother ' s excellent abilities , but he could safely add to that by saying
it was impossible to say much further of Bro . Dale as an Installing Master . All the brethren would agree with him that Bro . Dale had done the work of Installing Master exceedingly well . They would admit that there was a great deal to do by the Installing Master , and he ( the W . M . ) only hoped when his turn came he would do it as well . Not only did Bro . Dale do the installation , but he did also the
passings and the initiation equally well . The initiation had been put down for him , but he was only too pleased to find that Bro . Dale did it so much better than he could . Of the other Past Masters , among whom were Bros . Stacey and Stiles , he could only say the lodge could not do without them . Bro . Dale , I . P . M ., replying , said he regarded the installation of the present Worshipful Master of the Strand
Lodge as a great event for the lodge . When he was initiated he little thought he would occupy the proud position of installing Bro . Foster as Master of the lodge . He had worked through the different offices with the Worshipful Master , and when the brethren elected Bro . Foster he thought it his duty to install him . Although he might have put himself to a slight inconvenience in learning the
ceremony , he had been amply repaid with the very beautiful jewel of a Past Master the lodge had presented him with . He trusted he might always look upon it as a testimony of the good feelings which were entertained of him by the members of the lodge . Bro . J . R . Stacey , P . M ., in the course of his response , said he should never forget that he had the honour of bringing Bro . Dale and Bro . Foster into the Strand Lodge .
They had proved themselves worthy to belong to the Order and he was sure they would bring the lodge to a position second to no other lodge . Bro . W . M . Stiles , P . M ., Sec , said that no brother had worked harder for the Strand Lodge than Bro . Stacey . Bro . Dale , at the request of the W . M ., proposed "The Initiate , " and hoped Bro . Bound would attend to his
Masonic duties regularly and try to get into office . All initiates should aspire to the Master ' s chair . Bro . Bound replied , and said he would do his best to increase his knowledge of Freemasonry , and to further the cause they all had at heart . What was worth doing at all was worth doing well . Bro . Stiles proposed "The Visitors , " which toast was
responded to by Bros . Weinal , VV . M . 1828 ; Longman , W . M . 2271 ; W . A . Scurrah , P . M . 107 ; C . F . Browne , P . M . Si ; and G . W . Tillett , P . M . 16 77 . An Afghan Brother of 1422 ( Beauchamp , Roorkee , Bengal ) , also replied , and said his forefathers for generations had belonged to the good old Craft . He was the only one of the dear old tribe who came to London who was
then present . They came to learn law , medicine , and engineering . He was a medical officer at Candahar . He had nine brothers in the medical profession . His tribe and brothers were enthusiastic Masons . He assured the brethren that he and his people were loyal to the British Crown , and pointed out that in the Sutlej and elsewhere Masonry was the thing which brought and kept men
together . He was very pleased to have been present at the installation of Bro . Foster , and he should go back to his native land with feelings of affection for the brethren , and to tell his father , 97 years of age and an enthusiastic Mason , of the cordial reception he had had among the brotherhood in England .
To the toast of " The Treasurer and Secretary " Bro . W . M . Stiles , P . M ., replied , as the Treasurer , Bro . James Willing , jun ., was away on holiday . The J . W . responded for "The Officers , " and Bro . R . Whiting , P . M . 87 , gave the Tyler ' s toast , after which the brethren seoarated .

him extraordinary compliments , but he had only done his duty . He wished the W . M . every success during the ensuing year , at the conclusion of which he knew the brethren would pass the same compliments to Bro . Hazel as they had to himself . Other toasts were given , and the proceedings terminated with the Tyler ' s toast . Under the direction of Bro . Windsor , Org ., an excellent musical programme was carried out .

successors . Other toasts were proposed , and responded to as briefly as the occasion would admit , harmony and not oratory being the art most favoured by the lodge . The Tyler ' s toast brought the proceedings to a close . Among the contributors to the harmony were Bros . H . Tinney , Sladdin , Sargeant , and Sinclair Dunn .

felt very much gratified in proposing that very important toast , because the W . M . and he were initiated in the Strand Lodge together .
