M ., then recited , in an effective style , the following lines he had penned in commemoration of Bro . Dillon ' s expiration of office

Reports Of Masonic Meetings.

Rare are thy gifts , dear Brother , and this we will declare—O ' er us thy rule has been e ' en like a loving father's care , B enevolence of heart and hand , thy motto we have seen Iincircling round thy every act since Master thou hast been ; Receive onr thanks , 'tis ail we have to offer for thy care , T' accompany the jewel we are proud to see thee wear .

Hail ! all Hail , our new Past Master , thou Ihy spurs hast nobly won , A nd to-night hast shed a halo like the rays of setting sun ; Y oungest , oldest , all do praise thee , for the work that thouhast done . Dillon ' s a name that in this Lodge will long remembered be , I n days to come when time on earth shall be no more with thee ; L ong may'st thou live to grace our Board ere we thy face shalt miss , L o ! we would pray your lot should be one round of joyous bliss O n earth ! Then called to greet thy Master in that Grand Lodge above N othing to know , or feel , or see , but God ' s eternal love .

Propositions having been received , and " Hearty good wishes " conveyed , the lodge vvas closed in due form . An excellent banquet followed , at the conclusion of vvhich the usual toast list received the customary share of attention . In response to the toast of " The Grand Officers , " Bro . Raymond H . Thrupp , P . A . G . D . C , said the brethren who attended Grand Lodge knew how well the Grand Officers

did their duty to the Craft in promoting its prosperity and in doing all they could to advance its interests . They were divided into two classes—the working and the ornamental . The working class contained such men as the Grand Secretary , Bros . Fenn and Grey , the Pro Grand Master and Deputy Grand Master , who devoted a great deal of time to Masonry . He did not know whether to describe

himself during his year of office as ornamental or useful . During that year there vvere nine Grand Lodges , the M . W . G . M . Iaymg the foundation-stone of a useful Institution at York . The Grand Officers used their best endeavours for the Craft and were always pleased to receive from the lodges any acknowledgment that they had done their duty . With regard to his position as Deputy Prov . Grand Master

of their Province it was always apleasure to visit that lodge , for he believed it endeavoured seriously to carry out the principal tenets and teachings of the Craft . There vvere some lodges in the province vvhich vvere admitting gentlemen vvho were not properly qualified for the Craft . Those persons came into it with the idea that Masonry vvas a sort of Benevolent Society , but the brethren present knew it

was not . They promoted good fellowship , and extended relief to a brother in distress . They had in the province a Committee for relieving brethren in distress , and the petitions to that Committee were increasing to an abnormal extent , coming principally from one lodge . As he had said before , men ought not to be admitted to a lodge whom they could not introduce to their own homes . If they vvould but

carry out that idea , as he vvas sure they vvould in that lodge Masonry would thrive considerably . Bro . Howard H . Room , Prov . G . Sec , in reply to the toast of the Prov . G . M ., D . P . G . M ., and Prov . G . Officers , Present and Past , " said he need hardly say they felt very grateful for the kind way in vvhich the VV . M . had spoken of them . With regard to the Prov . G . Officers , the

brethren knew their merits better than he did . As far as he was personally concerned , he should never forget his first official visit to a lodge in the province . The kind and cordial manner in which he had been received , coupled with the words of the Secretary , sunk deep into his heart . One of the greatest pleasures he had experienced in Freemasonry had been that of making several valued

friendships , and if there vvas anything he esteemed in his present office it was that those friendships vvould be increased . It was his mother province , and he believed its working and general state to be second to none in the kingdom . Any thing he could do to promote the welfare and harmony of the province , and increase its efficiency , would be willingly done in return for the kind welcome he had received , and was convinced he should receive from the brethren .

" The Health of the W . M . " vvas proposed by Bro . Dillon , I . P . M ., who said that Bro . Brown , VV . M ., was an old friend of his , and he was therefore thankful to be followed by him into the chair of that lodge . The W . M . regarded the office vvith the same importance as he did , and would try to perform the duties as well as possible . He was certain his successor would be as successful as any W . M .

vvho had preceded him . Bro . VV . A . Brown , W . M ., in reply , said he vvas extremely obliged to the I . P . M . for the terms in which he had been good enough to propose his health . He was as diffident in responding as he vvas in accepting the office , being conscious of his imperfections . However , as far as his ability vvould allow , he vvould endeavour to qualify

himself for the office he had the honour to hold . When he joined the lodge , nine years ago , he was the junior member , but age had rectified that and had now had a small amount ot experience . He vvould do his best , and with the co-operation of the P . M . 's , officers , and brethren , hoped to maintain the prestige of the lodge . The W . M . next gave "The I . P . M ., " remarking that

most of the brethren had the privilege of being acquainted vvith Bro . Dillon , I . P . M ., and those vvho had not would regret it , for a more genial and courteous W . M . never occupied the chair . During his year he had performed an extraordinary amount of work , having on four lodge meetings rendered the three ceremonies . Bro . R . H . Dillon , I . P . M ., having returned thanks , said

that when he took office twelvemonths ago , he took it vvith an immense deal of fear and trembling . It was not because he knew he should not be supported by the officers and members , but because he vvas atraid he should not perform his duties to their satisfaction . Since he had taken the office of VV . M ., it had been his study to perform the duties in a manner acceptable to the members . If he had

performed those duties to their satisfaction it vvas because he had had their , support it everything he had proposed , and because the officers had been at their post to help him . It was his great pleasure at the preceding meeting to have a vote recorded to him testifying that his year had been a successful one . He thanked them also for the kind badge of approbation placed upon his breast , and assured them

that nothing should be wanted on his part to show how much he appreciated their kindness . " The Masonic Institutions" vvas proposed by thc Worshipful Master , who announced his intention of representing " the Iodge at the next Festival of the Benevolent Institution .

Bro . John Mason , P . M ., on behalf of that Institution , replied . He was not going to weary them with facts or figures , although he did not know thot he should study time or place at a lodge other than his own . He vvas , however , present to give them any information vvith respect to the Institutions . He vvas much cheered by hearing the W . M . say he intended to stand as Steward for the Old
