Presentation Of An Address To Lord Egerton, Prov. G. Master Cheshire.

PRESENTATION OF AN ADDRESS TO LORD EGERTON , PROV . G . MASTER CHESHIRE .

On Saturday afternoon , the 3 rd inst ., Lord Egerton was presented with an address by the Provincial Grand Lodge of Cheshire in honour of his lordship ' s recent union with the Duchess of Buckingham and Chandos . The presentation took place at Tatton Park , Knutsford , the beautiful home of Lord Egerton . It will be fresh in the recollection of our readers that on September

20 th the annual meeting of the Provincial Grand Lodge of Cheshire was held at Birkenhead , and it was then felt that his lordship ' s marriage could not be allowed to pass unrecognised , and accordingly it was decided to present an address embodying expressions of high regard and esteem for his lordship and the hope that the union which he had contracted might be crowned

with the greatest blessings . A deputation was appointed to carry out the desire of the lodge , and the brethren appointed on Saturday waited upon his lordship . They were Bros , the Hon . Sir Horatio Lloyd , D . P . G . M . ; George Brown , P . S . G . W . ; Capt . Cooper , P . J . G . W . ; Richard Newhouse , P . G . Sec . ; James Salmon , A . G . D . C . Eng . ; John Clayton , P . Jas . Cookson , P . P . G . T . ; Henry Jackson , P . P . S . G . D . ; Rev . Hamilton King , P . G . Chap . ; and others . The address is a fine specimen of its kind , and contained admirable portraits of Lord Egerton and her Grace , the whole being surrounded by a beautiful floral design , introducing a figure of a cherub and the marriage bells , the armorial bearings of his lordship

introducing her Grace ' s , and an exquisite sketch of Tatton Hall , as well as a Masonic emblem . The work has been executed by Messrs . Hine and Co ., Manchester , and reflects credit upon them in every way . The text of the address runs thus : " To the Right Hon . Wilbraham Baron Egerton of Tatton , Tatton Park , in the County Palatine of Chester ,

Right Worshipful Provincial Grand Master of Freemasons of the Province of Chester , < tc , & c . " May it Please Your Lordship . " It is with feelings of sincere pleasure and satisfaction that the brethren assembled at the Provincial Grand Lodge of Freemasons of the Province of Cheshire , hail the announcement of your lordship ' s

union with her Grace the Duchess of Buckingham and Chandos . "The brethren feel that they ought not to permit such an auspicious and happy event to pass without giving expression to the high regard and esteem in which your lordship is held by every Freemason in the province over which your lordship rules , and in the

heartfelt desire of the brethren as representing every Masonic lodge in the province , that the alliance upon which your lordship has entered may be crowned with the greatest blessings . " The brethren earnestly pray that the G . A . O . T . U . will in his bountiful wisdom and goodness bestow upon her Grace and your Lordship long life , health , and

happiness , and pour upon you the choicest blessings that life affords . " Signed on behalf of the Freemasons of Cheshire assembled in Provincial Grand Lodge . " The presentation was made by Bro . Sir Horatio Lloyd to his Lordship and her Grace the Duchess in a few appropriate words , in which he extended the congratulations of the brethren to bis Lordship upon his

recent union , and expressed the hope that both might long be spared to each other . His LORDSHIP as suitably replied , and expressed his thanks for the gift , which he should treasure very highly . Subsequently the brethren had lunch , and were afterwards accompanied through the beautiful grounds , conservatories , & c , by their noble host .

vein to the toast . He mentioned , amongst other things , that the Masons were not so selfish as some imagined . He quoted two facts that his lodge gave a ball and a picnic , to which the ladies were admitted ; and lastly , the evening before them should convince them that they endeavoured to please and give the ladies every attention and courtesy . He had special pleasure in

returning thanks , firstly , because it was the first time any brother of the lodge had had the honour of responding to that toast ; secondly , because it was their M . W . Grand Master ' s birthday ; and , thirdly , because that evening was the anniversary of the date and night of his initiation into Freemasonry . He followed by an amusing episode of the only lady Freemason ( in the

clock ) , and , finally , thanked those present for their acclamation and heartiness with which they had received the toast Bro . GEO . Erection Of A New Masonic Temple At Margate.

ERECTION OF A NEW MASONIC TEMPLE AT MARGATE .

LAYING THE MEMORIAL STONE . On Tuesday , the 6 th inst ., the ceremony of laying the memorial stone of the new Masonic Temple , which is being built by the members of the Union Lodge , No . 127 , in New Cross-street , Margate , was performed by the W . M ., Bro . E . Crosoer , with the usual ceremonial . The new temple is being erected on the

ground in the rear of " The Limes , " from plans prepared by Bro . E . Latham , the builder being Bro . L . Seager , P . M . 1273 . The front of the building is of red brick , faced with white stone , and the inside of the temple will be finished in the three styles of architecture—Ionic , Doric , and Corinthian . The temple will be a one-story building , and at the side will be the caretaker ' s house .

On Tuesday afternoon the brethren met at the lodge-room , the King ' s Head Hotel . The Worshipful Master was supported by the following officers : Bros . J . Moore , S . W . ; J . F . Hume , J . W . ; Rev . W . Taylor Jones , M . A ., Chap . ; F . W . Willett , Treas . ; F . Stanley , Sec ; W . F . Francklin , J . D . ; Gus Foster , A . D . C . ; Thos . Russe , F . R . C . O . ; Thos . Jephcott , Stwd . ; and

Geo . Lawrence , Tyler . There were also a large number of members present . The lodge having been opened , the members formed in procession and proceeded to New Cross-street , where a large number of the general public had

assembled to witness the ceremony . The Worshipful Master , supported by his officers , took up a position on the platform in front of the building , while the other brethren present and a number of visitors , chiefly ladies , assembled on a platform witbin the partially erected structure .

The proceedings commenced with the singing of a hymn . Prayers were offered by the Rev . W . TAYLOR J ONES , Chaplain , after which thfi architect ( Mr . A . Latham ) presented the W . M . with a handsome silver trowel with which to iay the memorial stone . The

trowel bore the following inscription : " Presented to Bro . Edwin Crosoer , W . M . Union Lodge , 127 , by Bro . A . Latham , architect , on laying the memorial stone at the Masonic Temple , Margate , November 6 th , 1804 . "

The mortar having been spread , the stone was lowered into its position , and after the usual ceremony , the W . M . said , " In the name of the Great Architect of the Universe , I declare this stone to be well and truly laid . " The stone bore the following inscription : " This stone was laid by Bro . Edward Crosoer . W . M . Union Lodge , No . 127 , November 6 th , 1894 . "

The WORSHIPFUL MASTER said he could not let such an opportunity as that pass without offering a few remarks with regard to the Union Lodge . Having expressed his pleasure at seeing such a large gathering of members of the Craft , he said the proceedings that day marked a very eventful epoch in the history of the Union Lodge , No . 127 . It had been in existence over

a century and a quarter ; in fact , something like 130 years , and during that time it had been roaming about from place to place , having no fixed home or habitation . In a short time that would be ch . nged . They saw the walls of their new home , of which they had just laid the foundation stone , rising , and he hoped that in

that building , when completed , brotherly love would continue to flourish , and that the provision of a permanent home for the lodge might result in a considerable strengthening of the Union Lodge . They were met that day tinder most auspicious circumstances , and he earnestly hoped that the lodge had a prosperous career before it .

The short service was then concluded by the Rev . W Taylor Jones . The brethren then reformed into procession , and returned to the lodge room at the King ' s Head Hotel , where a banquet was afterwards served , the Worshipful Master presiding . In addition to the members of the Craft , a number of ladies were present .
