M . ; and Officers of the Prov . Grand Lodge of Northumberland ; " and " Bro . Canon Tristram , W . D . P . G . M ., and Officers of the Prov . Grand Lodge of Durham , " were heartily responded to .
Bro . Councillor A . Scott , P . P . G . Std . Br ., replied on behalf of the Prov . Grand Lodge , and said he hardly expected being called upon to reply that evening . He said there was nothing new he could say , and he felt sure the Grand Officers and Prov . Grand Officers were all highly appreciated for their arduous labours by the brethren not only of the Province of Northumberland , but also that of Durham . Bro . J . T . Stark then gave " The W . M ., Bro . J . Sutcliffe . " He said he was proud of having been asked for the second time to be the Installing Master of the lodge , and
he advised all officers to do their very best during the ensuing year for Bro . Sutcliffe as they had done in the past . The way the work had been done during the last two years augured well indeed for Bro . Sutclifte ' s year of office . He only hoped that the VV . M . would have good health to fulfil that position , and he would always be prepared to assist him if he ( the W . M . ) found it necessary . The W . M . suitably replied , and then proceeded to propose "The Installing Master . " He said in Bro . Stark they had one of the hardest working Masons possible to
be found . He was always ready to assist anybody , and willing to fill any position in the lodge . It was mainly owing to his instrumentality that , although this was only the second anniversary , the funds of the ledge were on the soundest bans of any lodge in Northumberland , when , after paying all debts , they had to their credit in the bank over £ 194 ; and he only hoped Bro . Stark would lie long spared to keep his eye , nut only on the work of the lodge , but also on the finances . Bro . J . T . Stark said he thanked the VV . M . for his remarks , and that it had always been his desire to make Swinburne Lodge one of the most successful in the Province of
Northumberland , and he was glad to notice that they had many brethren of quality . He believed in quality—not quantity . lie had a most capable I . P . M . in lira . Holloway , and he only hoped he would ere long be back again in Newcastle to fulfil his Masonic duties . He would not keep them any longer , but thank them for the kind manner in which they had received it , and repeat that he was always ready to assist any member of the lodge in Masonry . a letter from the Grand Secretary approving of the alteration of the night of meeting , and it was agreed that the lodge meet in future on Thursday evenings , commencing with the 15 th instant . This alteration has taken place in consequence of minv members of the mother lodge and also other members being unable to attend on Wednesday evenings , who are desirous of gaining their instruction in this lodge of instruction under the very able direction of Bro . j . CONSECRATION OF THE LADYSMITH MARK LODGE
No . 528 . The consecration of this now historical lodge took place at Ladysmith on Monday , September 3 rd , by R . W . Bro . Thomas Cook , Dist . G . Master . The Dist . G . Master had ori g inally fixed October 21 st , 1899 , for the consecration of the lodge , but owing to the outbreik of hostilities it had to be postponed .
The 33 rd half-yearly communication ol the Dist . G . Mark Lodge of Natal was held immediately beiore the consecration , when there was a very good attendance . The most interesting feature of the consecration being that it was the first time the new Masonic temple ( which R . W . Bro . Westley Francis , Dist . G . Master of the Craft , laid " the foundation-stone of , with much pomp and ceremony , just beiore the war—the walls of which did not escape from Boer shell ) had been used .
The beautiful ceremony of consecration having been carried out , Bro . Douglas De Fenzir , P . Dist . G . Sec , then most impressively installed the W . M . elect—that good Mason and veteran citizen of Lidysmith , Bro . Charles J . Jones , who appointed as his officers for the ensuing year the following brethren : Fraser , S . W . ; Fleming , J . M . ; and Officers of the Prov . Grand Lodge of Northumberland ; " and " Bro . Canon Tristram , W . D . P . G . M ., and Officers of the Prov . Grand Lodge of Durham , " were heartily responded to .
Bro . Councillor A . Scott , P . P . G . Std . Br ., replied on behalf of the Prov . Grand Lodge , and said he hardly expected being called upon to reply that evening . He said there was nothing new he could say , and he felt sure the Grand Officers and Prov . Grand Officers were all highly appreciated for their arduous labours by the brethren not only of the Province of Northumberland , but also that of Durham . Bro . J . T . Stark then gave " The W . M ., Bro . J . Sutcliffe . " He said he was proud of having been asked for the second time to be the Installing Master of the lodge , and
he advised all officers to do their very best during the ensuing year for Bro . Sutcliffe as they had done in the past . The way the work had been done during the last two years augured well indeed for Bro . Sutclifte ' s year of office . He only hoped that the VV . M . would have good health to fulfil that position , and he would always be prepared to assist him if he ( the W . M . ) found it necessary . The W . M . suitably replied , and then proceeded to propose "The Installing Master . " He said in Bro . Stark they had one of the hardest working Masons possible to
be found . He was always ready to assist anybody , and willing to fill any position in the lodge . It was mainly owing to his instrumentality that , although this was only the second anniversary , the funds of the ledge were on the soundest bans of any lodge in Northumberland , when , after paying all debts , they had to their credit in the bank over £ 194 ; and he only hoped Bro . Stark would lie long spared to keep his eye , nut only on the work of the lodge , but also on the finances . Bro . J . T . Stark said he thanked the VV . M . for his remarks , and that it had always been his desire to make Swinburne Lodge one of the most successful in the Province of
Northumberland , and he was glad to notice that they had many brethren of quality . He believed in quality—not quantity . lie had a most capable I . P . M . in lira . Holloway , and he only hoped he would ere long be back again in Newcastle to fulfil his Masonic duties . He would not keep them any longer , but thank them for the kind manner in which they had received it , and repeat that he was always ready to assist any member of the lodge in Masonry . CONSECRATION OF THE LADYSMITH MARK LODGE
No . 528 . The consecration of this now historical lodge took place at Ladysmith on Monday , September 3 rd , by R . W . Bro . Thomas Cook , Dist . G . Master . The Dist . G . Master had ori g inally fixed October 21 st , 1899 , for the consecration of the lodge , but owing to the outbreik of hostilities it had to be postponed .
The 33 rd half-yearly communication ol the Dist . G . Mark Lodge of Natal was held immediately beiore the consecration , when there was a very good attendance . The most interesting feature of the consecration being that it was the first time the new Masonic temple ( which R . W . Bro . Westley Francis , Dist . G . Master of the Craft , laid " the foundation-stone of , with much pomp and ceremony , just beiore the war—the walls of which did not escape from Boer shell ) had been used .
The beautiful ceremony of consecration having been carried out , Bro . Douglas De Fenzir , P . Dist . G . Sec , then most impressively installed the W . M . elect—that good Mason and veteran citizen of Lidysmith , Bro . Charles J . Jones , who appointed as his officers for the ensuing year the following brethren : Fraser , S . W . ; Fleming , J .
