The lodge having been closed , the brethren adjourned to the Starkie Arms , where a sumptuous banquet awaited them , which was presided over by the W . M ., Bro . Dr . Grant , supported by the P . G . M ., Bro . Col . Starkie , and other Prov . Grand Officers , Past Masters , and brethren . The toast list was judiciously curtailed , but some excellent speeches wee made , especially by the W . M . and the P . G . M . Songs were admirably rendered by the musical brethren present , and altogether the enteitainment was most enjoyable .

The lodge was opened , and the minutes of the previous meeting read and confirmed . Bro . G . F . Baker , P . M . 503 , was unanimously elected a jVning member . Bro . Jones was passed to the Degree of F . C . in a very able manner by the W . M ., who wis most efficiently assisted b y his officers . Bro . VV . P . Dickinson , P . M ., moved a resolution in accordance with notice previously given—that a Committee be formed to enquire into the financial position of the lodge , which was carried unanimously .

After the closing of the lodge , the brethren adjourned to the Queen ' s Head Hotel lo partake of a supper , provided in excellent style , by Bro . A . VVeston , and a most enjoyable evening was spent .

Bro . Gould , D . of C , announced the recent appointment of Bro . C . Kupferschmidt to the office of Assistant Grand Secretary for German Correspondence , and gave expression to the feelings of gratification experienced by his brethren in the lodge . He was suie that every member would agree with him that no more suitable brother could have been found for the office , which was far from tcing a sinecure , and required special knowledge and linguistic attainments . He moved that the congratulations of the brethren

be tendered to loro . Kupferschmidt , which was seconded by Bro . Dr . Belgrave Ninnis , and carried by acclamation , after which Bro . Kupferschmidt expressed his thanks . The W . M . addressed the brethren , and wished them all a happy and prosperous New Year individually , expressing a hope that the year might also prove a propitious one for the lodge collectively . The report of the Audit Committee was brought up , and , after some few explanations of the figures had been given , was adopted .

The Secretary called attention to the following exhibits : To a large square and compasses crossed , in wrought-iron , supposed to have formerly decorated the Master's chair ol Lodge Huntley , in Aberdeenshire , and impressions from the summons plate of the lnveiary Lodge , lent by Bro . W . lvison Macadam , of Edinburgh ; to four Irish certificates of the early years of Ihe century , in illustration of the paper of the evening , and a Maltese Royal Arch certificate , lent by Bro . J . T . Thorp , of Leicester . Bro .

Dr . Lemon also exhibited a rare pamphlet , being the regulations of the Royal Arch Society , printed in the year 17 S 2 , which evoked much interest , and which he expressed his intention of getting suitably bound and presenting to the lodge library . In the absence of Ihe writer , Bro . Dr . Chctwode Crawley , the paper of the evening , entitled , " 'Ihe Old Lodge at Bandor , " was read for him by Bro . W . II . Rylands . It dealt all too briefly , and very amusingly , with the past history of this lodge , established in 1733 , and still existing , the facts being gleaned from a pamphlet written some 30 years ago .

The minute books had , however , remained in possession of the author , who had since removed lo America , and it was hoped this notice might assist in their recovery and restoration to proper custody . A discussion on the paper followed , which was sustained by Bros . Speth , Gould , Rylands , Macbean , and Guttman , and letters in comment were read from Bros . Lane and Hughan . The brethren subsequently adjourned to the Holborn Restaurant for dinner .

Ember Lodge , No . 2540 The first anniversary and installation meeting of this lodge was held on Wednesday , the Sth inst ., at the Castle Hotel , East Molesey ; it was a most successful gathering , and the manner in which the working was done reflects the greatest credit on the workers . Bro . George Moorman , the first W . M . of the lodge , was in the chair . The lodge having been opened , the minutes of the last meeting were confirmed , and the Auditors' report , which , considering its infancy , showed a flic bilance in hind , was read , received , and adopted , after which Bro . T . H . R . Beck , P . M ., P . P . S . G . D , was presented , and t

received at the hands of the ougoing W . M ., Bro . G . Moorman , the benefit of installation . After the customary salutations , Bro . Beck app linted and invested his officers as follows : Bros . G . Moorman , I . P . M . ; H . Wheatley , S . W . ; C . Wheitiey , J . W . ; A . H . Bowers , Treas . ; H . J . Brook , Sec ; G . Alderton , S . D . ; F . Mills , j . L ) . ; J . H . Mayo , I . G .. T . A . Grisenthwaite , D . C ; J . Rothwell and D . Siines , Stewards ; and II . Francis , Tyler . Bro . Moorman then gave the addresses in an admirable and impres sive manner , and received a hearty and cordial vote of thinks for his splendid work as Installing Master . He was also presented by the lodge with a Past Mister ' s jewel as a token of esteem , for which he appropriately returned thanks .

Lodge was then closed with the customary formalities , and the brethren adj ourned to an inner room to a banquet . Among the other brethren and visitors present were Bros . Mason , Collector R . M . Full justice having been done to the good things provided by , Bro . M iyo , the loyal and Masonic toasts were submitted by the W . M ., Bro . Beck , and were received in the hearty manner usual at Masonic gatherings , Bros . Miyo and J . W . Moorman responding for " The Prov . Grand Lodge . " The I . P . M . then proposed the toast of "The Worshipful Master , " which he demonstrated as the toast of the evening . He said they had all seen the masterly way he had invested his officers thit evening , and , as a good man and a good Mason , he knew that Bro . Beck would do his work well , and to the entire satisfaction of every brother in the lodge .

Bro . Beck , in reply , assured the brethren that nothing on his part should be wanting for the benefit of the lodge or the comfort of the brethren . Bro . Beck also paid a warm tribute of praise to the officers he had invested that evening , most of them being known to all present as good working Misons . The S . W . proposed , in most felicitous terms , " The Masonic Chirities , " to which Bro . Mason responded in a very strong appeal on behalf of all of them , and alluded

particularly to the provision made in the by-laws of the lodge to set a portion of every brother ' s annual subscription apart for Masonic benevolence , whereby to enable every succeeding W . M . to become a Steward for one or other of their glorious Institutions . " T he Visitors , " " The Treasurer and Secretary , " and " The Officers of the Lodge" were proposed in appropriate terms , and suitably responded to , and a very successful and enjoyable evening was brought to a close by the Tyler's toast . Most excellent harmony was rendered by Messrs . Alexander , Bonar , Barnard , and Martin , the latter being vociferously encored .

M . ; Kinipple , S . W . ; Spencer , J . W . ; D . Harlow , P . M ., Preceptor ; J . Smith , P . M . 192 , Asst . Sec . ; J . G . Robeson , S . D . ; Saunion , J . D . ; A . J . Rippin , I . G . ; Greig , Newman , Pepe , white , S . Rippin , Ellison , Maidwelt , Thomas , W . M . 65 , Knight , Butcher , Riss , Tidder , and Evans . The lodge was opened in due form and the minutes of the previous meeting read

and confirmed . The ceremony of initiation was rehearsed , Bro . Rippin acting as candidate . The W . M . then asked Bro . Pepe the questions leading to the Second Degree . The lodge was opened in the Second and Third Degrees , and Bro . Thomas , who had answered the usual questions , was raised to the Degree of a M . M . The lodge being resumed in the First Degree , Bro . Kinipple was elected to occupy the chair on the second Wednesday in February , the first Wednesday being allotted to the Lion and Lamb Lodge , and next Wednesday ( 22 nd ) being reserved as officers' night 0 ! the Prosperity mother lodge . The lodge was then closed .

confirmed . The ceremony of initiation was rehearsed , Bro . Ingrain being the candidate . The lodge was called off and on . T he ist and 2 nd Sections of the Third Lecture were worked by the Preceptor , assisted by the brethren . Bro . Beauchamp was elected W . M . for the next meeting , and Bros . Ingram and Neighbour were elected joining members of the lodge . A hearty vote pf thanks was ordered to be entered on the minutes to the W . M . for the able manner in which he had occupied the chair for the first li ne in the lodge . After the third rising , the lodge was closed .

Bro . Gould , D . of C , announced the recent appointment of Bro . C . Kupferschmidt to the office of Assistant Grand Secretary for German Correspondence , and gave expression to the feelings of gratification experienced by his brethren in the lodge . He was suie that every member would agree with him that no more suitable brother could have been found for the office , which was far from tcing a sinecure , and required special knowledge and linguistic attainments . He moved that the congratulations of the brethren

be tendered to loro . Kupferschmidt , which was seconded by Bro . Dr . Belgrave Ninnis , and carried by acclamation , after which Bro . Kupferschmidt expressed his thanks . The W . The Secretary called attention to the following exhibits : To a large square and compasses crossed , in wrought-iron , supposed to have formerly decorated the Master's chair ol Lodge Huntley , in Aberdeenshire , and impressions from the summons plate of the lnveiary Lodge , lent by Bro . W . lvison Macadam , of Edinburgh ; to four Irish certificates of the early years of Ihe century , in illustration of the paper of the evening , and a Maltese Royal Arch certificate , lent by Bro . J . T . Thorp , of Leicester . Bro .

Dr . Lemon also exhibited a rare pamphlet , being the regulations of the Royal Arch Society , printed in the year 17 S 2 , which evoked much interest , and which he expressed his intention of getting suitably bound and presenting to the lodge library . In the absence of Ihe writer , Bro . Dr . Chctwode Crawley , the paper of the evening , entitled , " 'Ihe Old Lodge at Bandor , " was read for him by Bro . W . II . Rylands . It dealt all too briefly , and very amusingly , with the past history of this lodge , established in 1733 , and still existing , the facts being gleaned from a pamphlet written some 30 years ago .

The minute books had , however , remained in possession of the author , who had since removed lo America , and it was hoped this notice might assist in their recovery and restoration to proper custody . A discussion on the paper followed , which was sustained by Bros . Speth , Gould , Rylands , Macbean , and Guttman , and letters in comment were read from Bros . Lane and Hughan . The brethren subsequently adjourned to the Holborn Restaurant for dinner .

Ember Lodge , No . 2540 The first anniversary and installation meeting of this lodge was held on Wednesday , the Sth inst ., at the Castle Hotel , East Molesey ; it was a most successful gathering , and the manner in which the working was done reflects the greatest credit on the workers . Bro . George Moorman , the first W . M . of the lodge , was in the chair . The lodge having been opened , the minutes of the last meeting were confirmed , and the Auditors' report , which , considering its infancy , showed a flic bilance in hind , was read , received , and adopted , after which Bro . T . H . R . Beck , P . M ., P . P . S . G . D , was presented , and t

received at the hands of the ougoing W . M ., Bro . G . Moorman , the benefit of installation . After the customary salutations , Bro . Beck app linted and invested his officers as follows : Bros . Full justice having been done to the good things provided by , Bro . M iyo , the loyal and Masonic toasts were submitted by the W . M ., Bro . Beck , and were received in the hearty manner usual at Masonic gatherings , Bros . Miyo and J . W . Moorman responding for " The Prov . Grand Lodge . " The I . P . M . then proposed the toast of "The Worshipful Master , " which he demonstrated as the toast of the evening . He said they had all seen the masterly way he had invested his officers thit evening , and , as a good man and a good Mason , he knew that Bro . Beck would do his work well , and to the entire satisfaction of every brother in the lodge .

Bro . Beck , in reply , assured the brethren that nothing on his part should be wanting for the benefit of the lodge or the comfort of the brethren . Bro . Beck also paid a warm tribute of praise to the officers he had invested that evening , most of them being known to all present as good working Misons . The S . W . proposed , in most felicitous terms , " The Masonic Chirities , " to which Bro . Mason responded in a very strong appeal on behalf of all of them , and alluded

particularly to the provision made in the by-laws of the lodge to set a portion of every brother ' s annual subscription apart for Masonic benevolence , whereby to enable every succeeding W . M . to become a Steward for one or other of their glorious Institutions . " T he Visitors , " " The Treasurer and Secretary , " and " The Officers of the Lodge" were proposed in appropriate terms , and suitably responded to , and a very successful and enjoyable evening was brought to a close by the Tyler's toast . Most excellent harmony was rendered by Messrs . Alexander , Bonar , Barnard , and Martin , the latter being vociferously encored .
