A prospectus has been issued , which shows that the proposed capital is £ 2000 in 1000 £ 2 shares . The promoters , after having gone carefully

into the probable receipts and expenditure , are of opinion that a fair dividend on the money expended may be reasonably expected . It will be seen from the advertisement that the list closes on the 19 th February , and Masons and others who are interested in the town should prove that interest by subscribing . One brother—a member of the Sutton Lodge—has promised to subscribe in shares the full cost of the proposed site , which is in a most convenient position ,

The principal artistes engaged are Madame Albani , Miss Clara Butt , Mr . Lloyd , and Mr . Santley ; a band and chorus of 3000 performers also taking

part under the conductorship of Mr . August Manns . " Elijah " in its original form was first produced in public under Mendelssohn's direction at the Birmingham Musical Festival on August 26 th , 1 S 4 G ; but it was afterwards considerably altered , and the oratorio as we now know it dates from the early part of 1 S 47 , the y <; ar of the composer's death .

A VERY URGENT appeal is being made by Bro . Lord Herschell , P . G . W ., in behalf of the Children ' s Aid Society , a Branch of the Reformatory and Refuge Union , of which his lordship is President . The society has been in existence and has worked with signal success . for close on 40 years . Large numbers of children have been rescued by its means from criminal and vicious surroundings , from the almost certain fate of a future

of dishonesty and vice , and have become honest and honourable men and women . During the past year alone as many as 1290 such children have come within thi beneficent operations of this society , while it is even more gratifying still to know that of the children thus rescued by the society during the past 12 years , nearly 90 , ' per cent , are known to be doing well , and only 5 per cent , not to be doing well . It is earnestly to be hoped that Bro . Lord Herschell ' s appeal will be attended with the success it merits .

PROPOSED MASONIC HALL . —The Freemasons of Sutton have , for a long time past , been impressed with the necessity of building a Masonic hill for the use of the lodges meeting in the district , and with this object in view a compiny has been formed , the provisional directors being all well-known residents in the district with considerable influence in Masonic circles .
