lie hoped their newly-made brother would consider himself p ledged to take an active interest in his lodge , and prove himself as time went on a good and worthy brother and Mason . Bro . D . C . Attwater replied in suitable terms , thanking the brethren for the hearty and kindly reception they had jrjven him .
In giving the toast of "The Visitors , " the W . M . said that he was pleased to welcome that evening so many brethren with whom he had been so long connected in the work of the Islington Lodge of Instruction . Bros . Petch , Chretien , and Duncan and hi r . self , and one or two others , were the oldest members who now took any active interests in it . Bro . Duncan had just been kind enough to undertake
the joint Secretaryship with him , and thus relieve him ( the W . M . ) of some of the work during his occupancy of the chair in the parent lodge . In every properly constituted and well-ordered lodge the presence of visitors was always heartily welcomed . The Islington Lodge was thoroughly alive to its duty in that respect .
Other toasts were given , the Tyler s toast bringing to a close a most successful and enjoyable meeting . A lengthy musical programme was a most attractive feature of the evening ' s proceedings . The ballot was then taken for the election of Messrs . David Phillips , J . Thos . Townsend , and Henry Clarke , and , it being unanimous , they were initiated by the W . M . Bros . Butat and Sanderson were afterwards passed . The W . M . did the working of the Three Degrees
m excellent form , and the lodge is fortunate in having such an efficient officer . A gentleman having been proposed for initiation at the next meet ' ng , the lodge was closed . The brethren partook of an excellent and well-served banquet . At the conclusion of the repast the W . M . gave the usual toasts with commendable brevity , and which were duly honoured .
Bro . l'ilhon , I . P . M ., in giving the toast of "The W . M ., " stated that his working was perfection . He had 'lone wonders for the Charities , and was always ready to put his hand in his pocket for a distressed brother . He heartily wished him a happy and prosperous time while he was their W . M .

The lodge having been opened , and the minutes of the last meeting read and confirmed , Bro . lames Taylor was raised to the Sublime Degree of a M . M . by the W . M . in a most impressive and perfect manner , and Bros . C G . Tremeer , A . G . Wedmore , and C . Marshall were then passed to the Degree of F . C . A proposition was made by
Bro . E . Austin , P . M ., Treas ., and seconded by Bro . T . S . Melville ( member of the Charity Committee ) , "That the sum of 25 guineas be voted from the Charity Fund , and placed upon the list of Bro . A . Love , I . P . M ., who was representing the lodge for the Girls' Institution . " This was unanimously approved by all present , as the general funds of the lodge were in a most flourishing condition , and the
Charity Fund in particular could well afford this gift . Other business having been transacted , it was announced by Bro . J . J . Cantle , P . M ., Sec , that a very handsome phonographic album had been presented to the lodge for the purpose of preserving photographs of all the brethren . Thi « was presented , particularly to commemorate the official year of the VV . M ., Bro . G . E . Higginson , by Bro .
J . G . Moore , who had also presented a number of photographs of the highly esteemed ( founder of the lodge , Bro . Col . Creaton . These , however , were to be sold , and the proceeds placed in the Charity fund . The kindness of Bro . J . G . Moore was very graciously acknowledged by the W . M ., and the gifts accepted with cordial thanks . This concluded a most successful meeting , and , after
closing the lodge , the brethren adjourned to the Holborn Restaurant , where a tempting banquet was in readiness , and to which the company did full justice . The toast of "The Queen and the Craft" and other u ^ ual toasts were proposed in appropriate language by the W . M ., and heartily responded to , the visitors' responses particularly causing much amusement from the very brief
but pointed , way in which they were given . The musical arrangements were well presided over by Bro . H . B . Jupp , Asst . Org ., who was assisted by Miss May Jupp in her beautiful rendering of "Angus Macdonald" and "The Bonnie Banks of Loch Lomond "; Bro . J . J . Castle , who gave " The Village Blacksmith " and " Old Pilot Jim " ; Bro . T . S . Melville in " Oueen of
the Earth" and "The Lighthouse Keeper" ; Mr . F . J . Jupp in "The Holy City , " "Never give up the Ship , " and " The Waiter " ; Bros . Elkin , Catling , and Tremeer ( glees ) " Fair F'lora decks" and " The winds whistle cold "; and Bro . Strugnell in his popular and masterly rendering of "Admiral Tom . " The harmony of the evening was greatl y enhanced by a very amusing sketch by Bro . D . Bevendge , entitled " The Coroner ' s Inquest . "
1 he 1 yler s toast closed a highly successful evening , and , although this was only an " off-night , " the support it received fairly warrants it a position among the best and most enjoyable meetings held by the lodge , one of the best features being _ that Bro . A . Love , LP . M ., succeeded in getting over £ 100 placed upon his Steward ' s list for the Girls' Institution .

Lodge having been opened , and the minutes readjand confirmed , Bros . J . Powell , H . B . Brenkler , A . Annewell , and A . Hardaway were passed to the Second Degree . Bro . Alf . Trewinnard , P . M . 22 S , 1603 , then proceeded to install Bro . A . Lefeber

adjourned to a banquet , presided over by the new W . M ., who , in response to the toast of his health , thanked the brethren for the honours conferred upon him after his long connection with the lodge , he being one of the founders and Treasurer for io years . The lodge was numerously attended by visitors from several lodges .

PROVINCIAL MEETINGS .
ALTRINCHAM . Stamford Lodge ( No . 1045 ) . —The brethren of this lodge met under very painful and melancholy circumstances on Monday , the nth inst , on account of the sudden decease of Bro . Thomas Walker , S . W . and W . M . elect . Consequently the usual festival was not held , but at
the same time a large numberof brethren were in attendance to try and console each other in the irreparable loss they had sustained by the death of the VV . M . elect , who was beloved by everybody . Bro . Walker was a barrister , practising principally in the Northern Circuit , in which position he was looked upon with great respect and esteem , and had risen to eminence .
Bro . Blunsum , VV . M ., took the chair and opened the lodge , and the minutes of the previous regular meeting were read and conlirmed—with the exception of one portion , after which Bro . Richard Newhouse , P . G . Sec , made a few appropriate and sympathetic remarks , and referred to the great calamity they especially experienced of one who was so good and true . Bro . F . W . R . Lindsell , P . P . J . G . W .,
in very sympathetic , genuine , and kindly terms proposed a vote of condolence with the deceased ' s family . This having been seconded , and supported by several brethren , the lodge was closed , The brethren all remained standing whilst the Organist played the "Dead March" in Saul , which was most impressive .
ASPATRIA . Solway Lodge ( No . 1220 ) . —The annua meeting for the purpose of installing the W . M . of this lodge was held on Monday evening , the Gth instant , and attracted a large gathering of brethren from the various lodges of the province , the W . M . elect , Bro . Dr . H . J . Webb , being very popular amongst an extended circle of
the Craft . Bro . Webb , having been an initiate of Lewis Lodge , No . S 72 , his mother lodge , was well represented at the meeting . A number of letters of apology had been received from eminent brethren , amongst these being one from Bro . G . Dalrymple , P . M . S 72 and 1660 , P . P . S . G . W ., Prov . G . occasion of his catering for the Craft . The usual loyal and Masonic toasts customary at such gatherings received due recognition , and were both heartily proposed and responded to . Several musical brethren contributed songs , which added to the harmony of a most enjoyable evening . The Tyler's toast concluded the proceedings of this rising and prosperous lodge .

The brethren partook of an excellent and well-served banquet . At the conclusion of the repast the W . M . gave the usual toasts with commendable brevity , and which were duly honoured .
Bro . l'ilhon , I . P . M ., in giving the toast of "The W . M ., " stated that his working was perfection . He had 'lone wonders for the Charities , and was always ready to put his hand in his pocket for a distressed brother . He heartily wished him a happy and prosperous time while he was their W . M .
1 he toast was well received , as was the Worshipful "laster on rising to respond . He was much gratified at his reception , and said that he would do his utmost to uphold the ledge . Bro . E . Austin , P . M ., Treas ., and seconded by Bro . T . S . Melville ( member of the Charity Committee ) , "That the sum of 25 guineas be voted from the Charity Fund , and placed upon the list of Bro . A . Love , I . P . M ., who was representing the lodge for the Girls' Institution . " This was unanimously approved by all present , as the general funds of the lodge were in a most flourishing condition , and the
Charity Fund in particular could well afford this gift . Other business having been transacted , it was announced by Bro . J . J . Cantle , P . M ., Sec , that a very handsome phonographic album had been presented to the lodge for the purpose of preserving photographs of all the brethren . Thi « was presented , particularly to commemorate the official year of the VV . M ., Bro . G . E . Higginson , by Bro .
J . G . Moore , who had also presented a number of photographs of the highly esteemed ( founder of the lodge , Bro . Col . Creaton . These , however , were to be sold , and the proceeds placed in the Charity fund . The kindness of Bro . J . G . Moore was very graciously acknowledged by the W . M ., and the gifts accepted with cordial thanks . This concluded a most successful meeting , and , after
closing the lodge , the brethren adjourned to the Holborn Restaurant , where a tempting banquet was in readiness , and to which the company did full justice . The toast of "The Queen and the Craft" and other u ^ ual toasts were proposed in appropriate language by the W . M ., and heartily responded to , the visitors' responses particularly causing much amusement from the very brief
but pointed , way in which they were given . The musical arrangements were well presided over by Bro . H . B . Jupp , Asst . Org ., who was assisted by Miss May Jupp in her beautiful rendering of "Angus Macdonald" and "The Bonnie Banks of Loch Lomond "; Bro . J . J . Castle , who gave " The Village Blacksmith " and " Old Pilot Jim " ; Bro . T . S . Melville in " Oueen of
the Earth" and "The Lighthouse Keeper" ; Mr . F . J . Jupp in "The Holy City , " "Never give up the Ship , " and " The Waiter " ; Bros . Elkin , Catling , and Tremeer ( glees ) " Fair F'lora decks" and " The winds whistle cold "; and Bro . Strugnell in his popular and masterly rendering of "Admiral Tom . " The harmony of the evening was greatl y enhanced by a very amusing sketch by Bro . D . Bevendge , entitled " The Coroner ' s Inquest . "
1 he 1 yler s toast closed a highly successful evening , and , although this was only an " off-night , " the support it received fairly warrants it a position among the best and most enjoyable meetings held by the lodge , one of the best features being _ that Bro . A . Love , LP . M ., succeeded in getting over £ 100 placed upon his Steward ' s list for the Girls' Institution .

ALTRINCHAM . Stamford Lodge ( No . 1045 ) . —The brethren of this lodge met under very painful and melancholy circumstances on Monday , the nth inst , on account of the sudden decease of Bro . Thomas Walker , S . W . and W . M . elect . Consequently the usual festival was not held , but at
the same time a large numberof brethren were in attendance to try and console each other in the irreparable loss they had sustained by the death of the VV . M . elect , who was beloved by everybody . Bro . Walker was a barrister , practising principally in the Northern Circuit , in which position he was looked upon with great respect and esteem , and had risen to eminence .
Bro . Blunsum , VV . M ., took the chair and opened the lodge , and the minutes of the previous regular meeting were read and conlirmed—with the exception of one portion , after which Bro . Richard Newhouse , P . G . Sec , made a few appropriate and sympathetic remarks , and referred to the great calamity they especially experienced of one who was so good and true . Bro . F . W . R . Lindsell , P . P . J . G . W .,
in very sympathetic , genuine , and kindly terms proposed a vote of condolence with the deceased ' s family . This having been seconded , and supported by several brethren , the lodge was closed , The brethren all remained standing whilst the Organist played the "Dead March" in Saul , which was most impressive .
ASPATRIA . Solway Lodge ( No . 1220 ) . —The annua meeting for the purpose of installing the W . M . of this lodge was held on Monday evening , the Gth instant , and attracted a large gathering of brethren from the various lodges of the province , the W . M . elect , Bro . Dr . H . J . the Craft . Bro . Webb , having been an initiate of Lewis Lodge , No . S 72 , his mother lodge , was well represented at the meeting . occasion of his catering for the Craft . The usual loyal and Masonic toasts customary at such gatherings received due recognition , and were both heartily proposed and responded to . Several musical brethren contributed songs , which added to the harmony of a most enjoyable evening . The Tyler's toast concluded the proceedings of this rising and prosperous lodge .
