" " the Health of the W . M . " was proposed by the I . P . M . in fluent and exhaustive

terms . The W . M ., in reply , expressed his thanks to the brethren for having elected him to preside over the destinies of the lodge for the ensuing 12 months . From the first moment of his joining No . 21 the had been struck with the unanimity that prevailed among its members . He belonged to other Masonic bodies , but there was not one that he held in greater estimation . With the assistance of the Past Masters he trusted to rarry cut his duties to the satisfaction of everyone . He saw no reason why the Earl of Carnarvon Mark Lodge should not be one of the most influential and prosperous in the Metropolis .

The toast of "The I . P . M . and Installing Master" followed . In subm itting this toast the W . M . declared that he could say without fear of contradiction that no W . M . had ever sat in the chair of No . 211 who had surpassed Bro . Beard in his general working . His urbanity and geniality were of the highest order . He had , moieover , provided them every night of his Mastership with an excellent musical programme . In conclusion , he trusted that Bro , Beard would live many years to wear the handsome jewel which had been presented to him that evening , and which he had so richly earned .

The toast having been drunk with enthusiasm , Bro . Beard made a neit and emotional reply . Bro . Gayler acknowledged the toast of " The Advancee , " " Bros . Roberts and Abrahams "The Health of "The Visitors , " and Bros . Parkhouse , Huish , and Larter the toast of " The Past Masters . " In giving the toast of "The Treasurer and Secretary" the W . M . expressed his regret that W . Bro . J . N . Frye had been prevented from attending the lodge through indisposition . The lodge owed a debt of gratitude to Bro . Frye for the careful manner

in which he had husbanded the funds . The report of the Audit Committee had been a most satisfactory one . He trusted that at the next meeting they would see their genial and respected Treasurer in his wonted good health . Strutt also greatly delighted the brethren with a powerful and effective bass solo . The W . M . and executive of the lodge are to be complimented upon the lesults that attended one of the most successful meetings ever held by the Earl of Carnarvon Mark Lodge . The G . RECORDER read the annual report ot the Executive Committee , which showed balances of £ 112 163 . 6 d . and £ 68 3 s , gd . on the General and Grand High Almoner ' s Funds respectively . During the past year 106 certificates had been issued for the Red Cross and 52 for K . H . S . and St . John—those numbers beirg considerably in advance of the previous year . A' new conclave had been sanctioned in Ceylon , and was consecrated on

S . h November , iSyS . Sir Knight G . F . Traill had been appointed Intendant General for Ceylon . On the invitation of the Grand Imperial Conclave of Scotland , a conference was held in Edinburgh on 2 Sth April , 1898 , when many matters of jjreat importance were discussed . Deep regret was expressed at the death of Lord Lathom , who was G . Viceroy E . in 1 S 76 . The Earl of Euston was thanked for his continued interest in the Order

and the Grand Recorder was also thanksd for his services , an honorarium of 15 guineas and 10 guineas for assistance in office work being granted . Twenty guineas was voted to the Girls' School to support the G . Viceroy E ., Viscount Dungarvan . The Committee expressed grateful thanks for a beautiful transparency of the Resurrection , painted and presented by Sir Knights A . Rutherford and L , Crosthwaite .

The knights adjourned to the banquet in the Japanese Silon , over which the M . P . S . ably presided .

Biiggs , who had installed seven new members during his year of office , and to the unflagging zeal and energy of the Recorder , Sir Knight E . M . Money . Th : Masonic record of the incoming M . P . S ., Sir Knight W . J . Armitage , was sufficient guarantee that the conclave would continue ' o flourish under his able guidance .

A warrant had been granted for a new Council at Liverpool , which was consecrated on the 24 th February last by the G . Recorder The

and other G . Officers , when ^ candidates were admitted . relations with sister Grand Councils continued to be friendly . The Grand Master had re-appointed Comp . Loveland Loveland _ as Dep . Grand Master , and thanked him and other G . Officers for iheir untirii g efforts . All Councils had made their annual returns , and paid their dues . The G . Treasurer ' s accounts showed a balance of £ 34 6 s . $ d ., being an increase of £ 10 .

The DEP . GRAND MASTER congratulated Grand Council on the most satisfactory report , and expressed tr . e hope that the Order would continue to flourish . Comp . GORDON MILLER proposed the re-election of Comp . R . Berridge as Grand Treasurer , and said that apart from the eminence to which that companion had attained in Freemasonry , he was one of the best Treasurers , and they were only too g lad to find his name associated with all their organisations in that capacity .

Comp . R . J . VOISEY seconded the proposition , which was unanimously carried . Comp . R . BERRIDGE , G . Treas ., returned thanks for the kindl y confidence placed in him , and hoped to be able to fulfil the duties as in the past . The DEI-UTY G . MASTER made the following appointments :

Plantagenet Conclave , No . 2-A regular assembly of this conclave was held at the Holborn Restaurant on Thursday , the 9 th instant . There were present Sir Knights W . Briggs , G . I . R ., M . P . S . ; VV . J . Armitage , Viceroy ; E . M . Mcney , P . G . P ., P . S ., Treasurer and Recorder ; R . H . Adie , S . G . ; C . E . W . Boughton-Leigh , J . G . ; J . Briggs , Prefect j W . G . Mills , Herald ; and T . C . Edmonels , Sentinel .

After the minutes had been read and confirmed , Sir Knight W . J . Armitage was enthroned M . P . S ., the ceremony being performed by Sir Knight E . Si . Money . The new M . P . S . then consecrated Sir Knight R . H . Adie as Viceroy . Sir Knight W . Briggs then ' resumed the chair , and Bros . F . A . Powell and W . | . Songhurst having been duly elected , were installed as Knights of the Order . Sir Knight Armitage , M . P . S . then appointed the following officers , investing those present : Sir Knights C E . W . Boughton-Leigh , S . G . ; J . Briggs , ) . G . ; E . M . Money , P . S ., Treas . and Recorder ; J . G . Marsh , P . S ., H . P . ; W . G . Mills , Prefect ; H . Tipper , Herald ; S . H . and T . C . Edmonds , Sentinel . The Auditors' repirt was read and adopted , and the M . P . S . congratulated the conclave on its healthy and prosperous condition , financially and otherwise . The M . P . S . then decorated the outgoing Sovereign with the jewel voted to him by the conclave , which was then closed . The knights adjourned to the banquet in the Japanese Silon , over which the M . P . S . ably presided .

Ihe toasts peculiar to the Order were given , and received with enthusiasm . Testimony was borne to the excellent work and vigour of the outgoing M . P . S ., Sir Knight Wm . Biiggs , who had installed seven new members during his year of office , and to the unflagging zeal and energy of the Recorder , Sir Knight E . M . Money . Th : Masonic record of the incoming M . P . S ., Sir Knight W . J . Armitage , was sufficient guarantee that the conclave would continue ' o flourish under his able guidance .

Sir Knights Boughton-Leigh , W . Briggs , and J . Briggs assisted with songs , and Bro . Ashwell also sang and presided at the piano . The jewel was manufactured by G ; orge Kenning & Son .

The annual meeting of Grand Council was held on the 9 th instant at Mark Masons' Hall , Great Que . en-street , W . C . There were present Comps . R . Loveland Loveland , Dep . G . M ., as G . M . ; R . Berrid , je , 3 G . Treas ., as Dep . G . M . ; R , Clowes , as P . Con . of Wrks . ; the Rev . W . Russell Finlay , G . Chap , j J . A . Craik , A . G . D . C . ; Vincent Murche , G .

Marshal ; Geo . Graveley , P . G . M ; Wm . Briant , P . G . M . ; the Rev . C . E . Wright , P . G . Chap . ; H . E . Cousans , P . A . G . D . C ; J . C . F . Tower , P . G . M . ; Alex . A report of the progress of the Cryptic Rite was read by the G . RECORDER , and unanimously adopted , which showed that 31 certificates had been issued , making a total of 857 members on the register , an increase on last year of 17 . A warrant had been granted for a new Council at Liverpool , which was consecrated on the 24 th February last by the G . Recorder The

and other G . Officers , when ^ candidates were admitted . relations with sister Grand Councils continued to be friendly . The Grand Master had re-appointed Comp . Loveland Loveland _ as Dep . Grand Master , and thanked him and other G . Officers for iheir untirii g efforts . All Councils had made their annual returns , and paid their dues . The G . Treasurer ' s accounts showed a balance of £ 34 6 s . $ d ., being an increase of £ 10 .

The DEP . GRAND MASTER congratulated Grand Council on the most satisfactory report , and expressed tr . e hope that the Order would continue to flourish . Comp . GORDON MILLER proposed the re-election of Comp . R . Berridge as Grand Treasurer , and said that apart from the eminence to which that companion had attained in Freemasonry , he was one of the best Treasurers , and they were only too g lad to find his name associated with all their organisations in that capacity .

Comp . R . J . VOISEY seconded the proposition , which was unanimously carried . Comp . R . BERRIDGE , G . Treas ., returned thanks for the kindl y confidence placed in him , and hoped to be able to fulfil the duties as in the past . The DEI-UTY G . MASTER made the following appointments :
