Z ., P . P . G . 1 st Asst . Soj . ; C . VV . Godby , Z . 325 , P . G . 1 st Asst . Soj . ; and R . R . Lisenden , 317 ( Freemason ) . The chapter was opened in due form , and the minutes of the previous convocation read and conlirmed . lhe ballot was taken for Bros . Nicholas Wright , 325 ; Alfred Grice ,
Sec . 992 ; and George Oilier , S . W . 992 , and announced to be favourable to each . By desire , Comp . J . H . Sillitoe occupied the First Principal ' s chair , and , with his wellknown ability , care , and correctness , exalted Bros . F . Wibberley ( balloted for at the last meeting ) and Nicholas Wright to the Holy Royal Arch Degree . The exaltation ceremony being finished , Comp . Sillitoe was requested to fulfil the important duties of Installing Companion , which
it is almost unnecessary to state he did with perfect satisfaction to all present . The three Principals elect—Comps . J . Sudren , Z . ; VV . Dumville , H . ; and T . Southern , J . — were presented to Comp . Sillitoe by Comp . C . VV . Godby , P . G . 1 st Asst . J . Dawson afterwards addressed the Principals and officers , and Comp . J . H . Sillitoe concluded the ceremony with an address to the companions generally .
Previous to the closing of the chapter , Comp . F . W . Lean , S . E ., rose and , in a graceful speech , presented Comp . J . J . Meakin , P . Z ., on behalf of the companions , with a lS-carat gold P . Z . ' s jewel . Comp . Meakin , who was evidently taken with complete surprise , said he had not the faintest idea that anything of the kind had been arranged , because , in the lirst place , it was not , according to his experience , a customary thing to
present jewels to retiring First Principals , as in the Craft ; and , secondly , he did not consider that he had deserved such a recognition of his humble services at the hands of the companions , inasmuch as , although he had taken a great interest in this baby chapter , he felt he had not done as much for it as he should have liked , therefore the present was to him a pleasant surprise , and the quiet arrangements that had been made for purchasing and presenting
it were triumphs of engineering . He certainly felt pruud of being one of the founders and first Z . of the chapter , in which he should always take a great interest , and believed there was not such another well-conducted chapter as the Starkie Chapter in the whole of the province , as he could truly say that during the time that had elapsed since its consecration there had not been a single hitch in the proceedings , and not the slightest dissension or
misunderstanding amongst its members . They had amongst them able and willing officers , who would unite in doing their utmost to make the chapter what he was sure it would continue to be—a great success . In conclusion Comp . Meakin said he thoroughly appreciated the good feeling that had prompted the brethren to present him with the jewel , which he should always look upon with great pleasure , more so , in fact , than any jewel he possessed , on account of its
associating him with the formation of the chapter . ( The jewel was manufactured by Comp . George Kenning , 47 , Bridge-street , Manchester . ) The M . E . Z ., Comp . J . Sudren , then rose , and address-Comp . J . H . Sillitoe , P . G . J ., said he was sure he echoed the sentiments of every member of the chapter when he expressed his warmest thanks for the great kindness and ability he ( Comp . Sillitoe ) had displayed in being present
that day , and performing the combined ceiemonies of exaltation and installation . He assured Comp . Sillitoe his services had been highly appreciated by them all . The M . E . Z . also thanked Comp . Jas . Dawson , P . P ., tst A . Soj ., for the assistance he had rendered Comp . Sillitoe , and assured him they were all very pleased to see him .
Comps . Sillitoe and Dawson acknowledged the compliment , and expressed their satisfaction ac the appreciation of their services , and their willingness at any time to doanything in their power to further the interests of the chapter . After " Hearty good wishes " had been expressed by the visitors , the chapter was closed in peace and harmony at six o ' clock .

Z ., P . P . G . 1 st Asst . Soj . ; C . VV . Godby , Z . 325 , P . G . 1 st Asst . Soj . ; and R .
C . VV . Godby , P . G . 1 st Asst . Soj ., to receive at his hands the benefit of installation , and were , after the usual preliminaries , installed into their respective positions , proclaimed to , and saluted by , the companions upon their readmission to the chapter .
Comp . James Dawson , P . P . G . 1 st Asst . Soj ., invested and addressed the following companions , officers for the ensuing year : Comps . F . VV . Lean , S . E . ; F . Armstrong , S . N . j Evan Williams , P . £ . ; Turner , 1 st Asst Soj . ; VV . Odier , 2 nd Asst . Soj . ; J . J . Meakin , P . Z , Treas . ; J . C . Whittington , Org . ; and P . H . Nicholls , Janitor . Comp .
