Reports Of Masonic Meetiing.

For his services in this capacity Bro . Knight was accorded a hearty vote of thanks . After the lodge meeting the brethren adjourned to Bro . H . C . Bolt ' s Royal Hotel , where the annual banquet was held , the catering being everything that could be desired . The W . M ., Bro . F . S . Hex , presided , and a very pleasant evening was spent .

PLUMSTEAD . —United Military Lodge ( No . J 536 ) - —The opening of the above lodge after its summer vacation took place on Friday , the ioth inst ., at the Assembly Rooms , Lord Raglan Hotel , Buerage-road , Bto . Vallern ' s comfortable hostelry , when a goodly muster of the brethren assembled to do honour to the occasion , and to welcome the W . M ., Bro . Quartermaster-Sergeant W . Maule , R . A ., on his assuming the chair for business . Among the brethren present were Bros . Captain W . A .

Weston , P . M ., P . P . G . S . B . Kent ; G . Kenneday , P . M . ; Captain W . Richey , R . A ., P . M . ; W . Moulds , I . P . M . ; R . Gooding , S . W . ; T . Cooper , J . VV . ; A . Ware , Sec . ; A . Murdock , S . D . ; R . F . Robertson , J . D . ; H . Froud , I . G . ; W . Seager , Stwd . ; W . Buckingham , Quartermaster Wilmott , W . Wilde , J . Hayward , T . Spackman , P . Stanbridge , A . Hill , R . Lord , L . Comerford , G . Evans , T . Rose , K . Hathaway , M . Maughey , G . Scott , C . Morris , C . Holmes , W . Taylor , T . Couper , and C . Jolly , W . M . 1472 , 913 , 13 ; all of the lodge . The visitors included Bros . A . Cleal , VV . M . 13 ; E . VV . Carter ,

P . M . 85 S ; J . Gould , S . W . 16 S 6 ; W . Doddrill , S . W . 615 ; W . Arnold , J . D . 1786 ; W . Dingle , 206 S ; G . Dennison , 13 ; F . G . Marfleet , 700 ; VV . Keeble , 13 ; G . W . Kenneday , S 29 ; H . Smith , 700 ; W . Harrison , 730 ; and A . Wood , 153 . The lodge having been opened , and the minutes of the previous meeting confirmed . Sergeant T . A . Smith , District Staff , R . A ., and Sergeant W . Brown , O . S . C ., were , after

approval , initiated . Bros . Holmes and Rose were passed , and Bros . Hambridge and Lee , of the lodge , and Bro . Marfleet , 700 , were raised . To those who know the perfect and precise manner in which the work is carried out in this lodge , it will be sufficient to say that its old tradition for good working was duly and fully sustained , Bro . Maule being most impressive , especially in the Third Degree . The lodge having been closed , and the neat little supper

over , the social board was soon crowned with the " rosy , and the usual loyal and Masonic toasts were honoured . Bro . Weston returned thanks for the toast of " Bro . Eastes and the rest of the P . G . Officers , Present and Past . " He said the Provincial Charity Committee meeting would be hel ' d on the 22 nd of that month , when the selection of candidates for the Boys ' , Girls' and Benevolent Institutions on the provincial list would take place , and he felt sure that

whoever was selected by the committee would be elected successfully to those Institutions . In Earl Amherst , their esteemed Prov . Grand Master , and in Bro . Eastes , their D . P . G . M ., they had two good and earnest supporters of the Charities , and he felt sure that they both would be p leased to hear that the United Military Lodge had , upon its opening night , devoted five guineas to the cause of Charity . He congratulated the W . M . upon the admirable

manner in which he had worked the Three Degrees , and on behalf of " The P . G . Officers , Present and Past , " returned them his sincere thanks for the toast . . The W . M ., in response to a hearty reception of the toast to his health , said it was very gratifying to hear the kind remarks that had fallen from Bros . Weston and Moulds , and it would be an incentive for him to go on and still do better . As he had promised , when he was installed , that

he would do his duty , so would he to the best of his ability , but he found it a very difficult thing to do work so well before such an eminent body of Masons as were present that night . It was all very well in a lodge of instruction , where they were expected to make mistakes , to make them ; but in a lodge room , where they were expected to be perfect , it was a very different thing altogether . He promised , however , to do his best , and trusted to be worthy

of the position and their confidence . Bro . Kenneday responded for " The Past Masters " in an eloquent speech ; and "The Initiates" also returned thanks for tbe toast of their healths . Bro . Cleal , in returning thanks for " The Visitors , " spoke of the approaching centenary meeting of the Union Waterloo Lodge , No . 13 , the mother of all the lodges in the neighbourhood , and said their application to the Grand

Master for leave to wear a centenary jewel had been acceded to . He likewise gave an interesting account of his researches among the minutes of the long ago meetings of No . 13 , and of having found an application from a portion ot the Royal Artillery in America , before the War of Independence , for permission to found a Iodge out there as an offshoot from the Union Waterloo . The Worship ful Master then gave a special toast to " The

Health of Bros . Quartermaster Willmott , Comerford , and other Brethren ot the Shropshire Regiment , " who were about leaving for Ireland . The regiment has been in Woolwich for some two years , and the brethren of the regiment have endeared themselves to the brethren of every lodge in the district by their amiable and courteous behaviour . Their departure was , therefore , much regretted , not only by the brethren generally , but by those of the inhabitants who

had had the opportunity ar . d pleasure of their company , These sentiments were eloquently expressed by Bro . Maule , who said , in conclusion , that as that was the last time they should have those brethren with them , at least , for some time , he asked the others present to give them a hearty and cordial " God speed " on their journey . Bro . Wilmott thanked the VV . M . for his eloquent and kind remarks . As a member of the Shropshire Regiment ,

he felt proud to hear such sentiments expressed , and , as brethren of the lodge , he and his colleagues would ever remember the generous hospitality always extended to them by the brethren of the United Military Lodge . Wherever they might be they would always remember their brethren of the lodge with kindness , and while he hoped and trusted to see them again some day , yet could then only thank them for their toast and good wishes , and wish them in return every happiness and prosperity .

Ihe next toast was that of "The Officers , " and here again the inexorable exigencies of the service caused a tone of regret to permeate the meeting , as Bro . Gooding , S . W ., is ordered to Aldershot on duty . He has been in Woolwich for some years , and has officiated of late as the Preceptor of the United Military Lodge of Instruction . He is an excellent officer and able Mason , and his loss will be for a time deeply felt . Bro . Maule dwelt eloquently with the above fact in putting the toast , and

Bro . Gooding , in response , thanked them for their hearty reception of the toast , and assured them of his deep regret at leaving them . So far as the lodge of instruction was concerned , he must say that it was a pet of his . It was an " ugly duck" when he found it that no one cared about ;

but now he trusted , under the Preceptorship of their esteemed VV . M ., it would keep up its present strength . He should endeavour to keep up his connection with the lodge and pass the chair . He again thanked them for the toast , and resumed his seat amid cheers . The Tyler ' s toast concluded the proceedings .

WHITSTABLE . —Graystone Lodge ( No . 1915 ) . —The annual installation meeting of this lodge took place at the Foresters' Hall , on Thursday , the 9 th inst ., when the VV . presiding . Besides the members of the Graystone Lodge , the party comprised several visiting brethren , including the W . M . 's of the three Canterbury lodges . MALDON . —Blaekwater Lodge ( No . 1977 ) . —The annual installation meeting of this lodge was held on Monday , the 13 th inst ., at the Blue Boar Hotel . Owing , principally , to a large fair going on in the town , the attendance was not a large one . The lodge lodge was opened by the VV . M ., Bro . S . H . Ellis , P . G . S . B . Essex , who , with the assistance of Bros . R . Smith , P . M . 6 97 ,

S . W ., and J . Shawyer , J . W ., ably initiated a new member . The retiring W . M ., who had been re-elected , was presented for installation .

Bro . Gooding , in response , thanked them for their hearty reception of the toast , and assured them of his deep regret at leaving them . So far as the lodge of instruction was concerned , he must say that it was a pet of his . It was an " ugly duck" when he found it that no one cared about ;

but now he trusted , under the Preceptorship of their esteemed VV . M ., it would keep up its present strength . He should endeavour to keep up his connection with the lodge and pass the chair . He again thanked them for the toast , and resumed his seat amid cheers . The Tyler ' s toast concluded the proceedings .
