the last regular meeting were read and confirmed . The ballot was taken for Air . James Smith , and was declared unanimously in his favour . The W . Al . informed the brethren that , owing to a family bereavement , Mr . Smith could not be present that evening , but would be present at the next meeting . Bro . G . G . K . Alends was raised to the Sublime Degree of a M . M . by the W . AL Bro . E . Roberts ,

P . AL , was unanimously elected Tyler during the pleasure of the lodge . The VV . AL informed the brethren of the great success attending the Alasonic church service held on Sunday , the 12 th inst ., at the parish church , Urmston , in aid of the Alasonic Charities , when the collection realised £ 23 5 s ., and he was pleased to say that several brethren who could not be present at the service had sent in their

donations . He took that opportunity to thank those brethren of the Urmston Lodge who were present at the service for the assistance he received from them . The W . Al . then proposed a vote of thanks to Bro . the Rev . H . Bethell-Jones , ALA ., P . P . G . C , Vicar of Brooklands , for his kindness in preaching the sermon , also to Bro . the Rev . E . Hareivood-Cooke , ALA ., P . P . G . C ., Vicar of Urmston ,

for the use of the church and schools and the kindness and assistance he gave him previous to the service ; also 10 Mr . Heald , the Organist , and the choir , who had worked very hard indeed to make the musical portion of the service a success . The Worshipful Alaster said they had succeeded beyond his expectations . The anlhem , " Behold how gcod and jojful a thing it is for

brethren to dwell together in unity , was most effectually rendered . The three proposals were seconded and carried unanimously by the brethren present . 'The W . Al . requested the Secretary to write a letter to Bros . Jones and Cooke , also to Air . Heald and choir , expressing the thanks of the brethren of the lodge , and that the same be recorded on the minutes . Bro . G . G . Alends wished to

present to the lodge ( as a memento of his son being raised to the Sublime Degree of a Al . M . ) a set of gavels and sounding boards for the use of the lodge . The VV . AL expressed his appreciation of such a spleniid present , and it gave him great pleasure in accepting them . The gavels are made ot light oak , with the square , level , and plumbrule inlaid in silver . The sounding boards were also of

light oak . The above were manufactured by Bro . George Kenning . Bro . R . Swindells said he had great pleasure in presenting to the lodge three new collars . The W . AL said it gave him great pleasure in accepting them . Bro . J . Plowman presented a very handsome table-cloth for the use of the social board , which supplied a long-felt want , 'The VV . AL expressed his thanks to Bro . Plowman , and the great

pleasurcit gave him in recemngsuchahandsomeand valuable table cloth . Bro . J . Ormrod presented 12 lamps also for use at the social board , and the W . AL said it gave him great pleasure in receiving them . It was proposed and seconded , and carried unanimously — " That the best thanks of the lodge be given to Bros . Mends , Swindells , Plowman , and Ormrod for their handsome and useful

presents to the lodge , and that the same be reco ded on th : minutes of the lodge . " The W . AL gave notice that the annual ball would be held on Friday , December 15 th , in the Schools , Higher-road , Urmston "Hearty good wishes" were expressed by the visiting

brethren , after which the lodge was closed , and the brethren adjourned to the social board , where the usual loyal and Masonic toasts were duly honoured , interspersed with recitations and songs . The 'Tyler ' s toast brought to an end a most enjoyable evening .

SALFORD . Starkie Chapter ( No . 935 ) . —The yearly installation meeting was held on Thursday , the 9 th inst ., at Adelphi House . There was a lame gath » ring of companions to witness the different ceremonies , which were beautifully rendered by Comp . J . H . Sillitoe , P . G . H ., installing the Z ., and Comp . J . Armstrong installing the 2 nd and

3 rd Principals , the latter investing and addressing the officers , and the former giving the addressee to the Principals , officers , and companions generally . The gift was graciously acknowledged by Comp . Lean . Comp . Lean

P . Z ., proposed a vote of thinks to Comp . J . H . Sillitoe , who had on that and every previous installation meeting , always come to their aid , and had so ably performed the duties of the day . Comp . Sillitoe responded , and commented at length upon the assistance he had received at the hands of Comp . J . Armstrong , P . Z ., and he spoke in high praise of the manner

in which he ( Comp . Armstrong ) had performed the portion of work allotted to him , and it gave him very great pleasure to see there was a companion who was taking such an interest in the chapter , and he predicted that if Comp . Armstrong continued his zeal in the Royal Arch Degree , he must become a very prominent officer in the important Province of East Lancashire . Comp . Armstrong responded ,

saying that what he had done that day was a great pleasure to himself , and if the companions appreciated what he had done it was very pleasing to himself . It was not much trouble to him to perform any ceremony in Alasonry either in the Craft or Arch Degree , but what he did he always enjoyed . The chapter was then closed . John Mason who , on Saturday , the 4 th instant , was for the second time installed Master of the Elliot Lodge , No . 1567 , Feltham , of which in 18 75 he was the principal founder and first W . M ., has had a long , busy , and successful career in Masonry , his connection with the Order dating from the 5 th January , 1865 , when he was initiated into its mysteries in the Lodge

of Harmony , No . 309 , Fareham , of which he is at the present time one of the oldest members . In 1873 he joined the Ebury Lodge , No . 1348 , and the Era Lodge in 1875 ; while in the latter and subsequent years , he assisted in founding the Chislehurst Lodge ,

No . 1531 , the Covent Garden Lodge , No . 1614 , and the Pimlico Lodge , No . 1772 . In 18 7 6 the late Bro . Sir Francis Burdett , Bart ., was pleased to appoint him one of the Prov . G . Stewards of Middlesex , and the year following conferred upon him the higher , yet well-deserved honour of Prov . S . G . Deacon . He was exalted to the

Royal Arch Degree in the Domatic Chapter , No . 177 , in 1875 , being subsequently elected joining member of the Royal Aliddlesex and Mount Lebanon Chapters , Nos . 1194 and 73 respectively . He rose in time to the chair of First Principal in the latter , and in 1878 was one of the founders of the Era Chapter , No . 1423 , and the Eclectic , No . 1201 . In 1876 he was appointed Prov .

G . Organist of Aliddlesex , and in 1888 Prov . G . D . C In Mark Alasonry his career has been even more distinguished . He was advanced in 1875 in the Thistle Lodge , No . 8 , of which some years later he was installed W . M . In 18 77 he was founder and first W . AL of the Hammersmith—now the Earl of Carnarvon- - Lod No . 311 and in the year following was appointed

ge . , Prov . G . M . O . of the late Province of Middlesex and Surrey . In 1887— the year of the Queen ' s Jubilee—his Royal Highness the Grand Mark Master conferred upon him the collar of G . S . Heald , the Organist , and the choir , who had worked very hard indeed to make the musical portion of the service a success . The Worshipful Alaster said they had succeeded beyond his expectations . The anlhem , " Behold how gcod and jojful a thing it is for

brethren to dwell together in unity , was most effectually rendered . The three proposals were seconded and carried unanimously by the brethren present . 'The W . Al . requested the Secretary to write a letter to Bros . Jones and Cooke , also to Air . Heald and choir , expressing the thanks of the brethren of the lodge , and that the same be recorded on the minutes . Bro . G . G . Alends wished to

present to the lodge ( as a memento of his son being raised to the Sublime Degree of a Al . M . ) a set of gavels and sounding boards for the use of the lodge . The VV . AL expressed his appreciation of such a spleniid present , and it gave him great pleasure in accepting them . The gavels are made ot light oak , with the square , level , and plumbrule inlaid in silver . The sounding boards were also of

light oak . The above were manufactured by Bro . George Kenning . Bro . R . Swindells said he had great pleasure in presenting to the lodge three new collars . The W . AL said it gave him great pleasure in accepting them . Bro . J . Plowman presented a very handsome table-cloth for the use of the social board , which supplied a long-felt want , 'The VV . AL expressed his thanks to Bro . Plowman , and the great

pleasurcit gave him in recemngsuchahandsomeand valuable table cloth . Bro . J . Ormrod presented 12 lamps also for use at the social board , and the W . AL said it gave him great pleasure in receiving them . It was proposed and seconded , and carried unanimously — " That the best thanks of the lodge be given to Bros . Mends , Swindells , Plowman , and Ormrod for their handsome and useful

presents to the lodge , and that the same be reco ded on th : minutes of the lodge . " The W . AL gave notice that the annual ball would be held on Friday , December 15 th , in the Schools , Higher-road , Urmston "Hearty good wishes" were expressed by the visiting

brethren , after which the lodge was closed , and the brethren adjourned to the social board , where the usual loyal and Masonic toasts were duly honoured , interspersed with recitations and songs . The 'Tyler ' s toast brought to an end a most enjoyable evening .

Comp . Sillitoe responded , and commented at length upon the assistance he had received at the hands of Comp . J . Armstrong , P . Z ., and he spoke in high praise of the manner

in which he ( Comp . Armstrong ) had performed the portion of work allotted to him , and it gave him very great pleasure to see there was a companion who was taking such an interest in the chapter , and he predicted that if Comp . Armstrong continued his zeal in the Royal Arch Degree , he must become a very prominent officer in the important Province of East Lancashire . Comp . Armstrong responded ,

saying that what he had done that day was a great pleasure to himself , and if the companions appreciated what he had done it was very pleasing to himself . It was not much trouble to him to perform any ceremony in Alasonry either in the Craft or Arch Degree , but what he did he always enjoyed . The chapter was then closed . John Mason who , on Saturday , the 4 th instant , was for the second time installed Master of the Elliot Lodge , No . 1567 , Feltham , of which in 18 75 he was the principal founder and first W . M ., has had a long , busy , and successful career in Masonry , his connection with the Order dating from the 5 th January , 1865 , when he was initiated into its mysteries in the Lodge

of Harmony , No . 309 , Fareham , of which he is at the present time one of the oldest members . In 1873 he joined the Ebury Lodge , No . 1348 , and the Era Lodge in 1875 ; while in the latter and subsequent years , he assisted in founding the Chislehurst Lodge ,

No . 1531 , the Covent Garden Lodge , No . 1614 , and the Pimlico Lodge , No . 1772 . In 18 7 6 the late Bro . Sir Francis Burdett , Bart ., was pleased to appoint him one of the Prov . G . Stewards of Middlesex , and the year following conferred upon him the higher , yet well-deserved honour of Prov . S . G . Deacon . He was exalted to the

Royal Arch Degree in the Domatic Chapter , No . 177 , in 1875 , being subsequently elected joining member of the Royal Aliddlesex and Mount Lebanon Chapters , Nos . 1194 and 73 respectively . He rose in time to the chair of First Principal in the latter , and in 1878 was one of the founders of the Era Chapter , No . 1423 , and the Eclectic , No . 1201 . In 1876 he was appointed Prov .

G . Organist of Aliddlesex , and in 1888 Prov . G . D . C In Mark Alasonry his career has been even more distinguished . He was advanced in 1875 in the Thistle Lodge , No . 8 , of which some years later he was installed W . M . In 18 77 he was founder and first W .
