The Duke of Cornwall may in every sense be called a musical lodge . The shipping of Folkestone mostly had flags half-mast during the first half of the week on account of the death of Bro . J . N . Rogers , who has been for many years largely connected with the shipping interest of Folkestone . He was greatly esteemed fur his benevolence among the seafaring
population , and also by the local brethren , tor the greater part of his Tile he was ardently attached to Freemasonry , and he was one of the oldest members of Temple Lodge , No . 558 . He was one of the founders of the Temple Chapter , and took a prominent part in founding the Masonic Hall and the Masonic Club . Bro . should be sent on behalf of the lodge to the bereaved family . Bro . Terrier , I . P . M ., seconded the vote , both he and Bro . Pearce , P . Bro . Sir Charles Dalrymple , of Newhalles , Bart ., the Grand Master designate of Scotland , in a letter to Grand Secretary , intimating his acceptance , says : " It is very gratifying to me that Grand Committee should think . of me for so high and honourable a position , while I myself entertain grave doubts as to my qualifications for it . f will accept this great honour in the belief that Grand Committee
and the brethren throughout Scotland will , by giving me their support , make good my deficiencies ; and in the hope that I may be able during a period of office to be of service to Grand Lodge . " Judging from the experience of Grand Lodge of the able manner in which the duties of Grand Master Depute have been performed by Bro . Sir Charles
Dalrymple , there can be no doubt of the wisdom of the choice . While the regret of the members of Grand Lodge , one might almost say of the entire Craft in Scotland , in the retiral or Bro . Lord Haddington from the Grand Mastership is most sincere , there is keen feeling of sympathy that in the interest of his health and family he has taken the wisest course . —Mallet .
