The sum of 10 guineas was voted to the Whymper Memorial Fund , now being raised by Lodge Stewart , No . i 960 , Rawal Pindi . Bro . Dr . VV . Wynn Westcott , S . W ., was duly installed into the chair of K . S . The officers for the year were invested as follows : Bros . Professor T .

Hayter Lewis , LP . M . ; the Rev . C . J . Ball , S . VV . ; Ed . Macbean , J . W . ; VV . Besant , Treas . ; G . W . Speth , Sec . ; C Kupferschmidt , S . D . ; C Purdon Clarke , J . D . ; R . F . Gould , P . G . D ., D . C ; S . T . Klein , I . G . ; T . B . Whytehead , Stwd . ; and J . W . Freeman , Tyler . The Worshipful Alaster delivered an interesting address on his installation , surveying the progress thus far of the lodge , particularly in the past year , and suggesting subjects

for research and discussion during the coming session . Bro . J . R . Dore delivered an address dealing with the ritual and old Bibles , on which he is such an acknowledged authority . The lecture was an "Attempt to ascertain the age of Freemasonry from internal evidence . " He pointed out that many expressions presumably derived from the Volume of the Sacred Law were not to be found in the authorised version , but might be found verbatim in older versions ,

giving the dates of these editions , and detailing some interesting general information about their history . He argued that this fact led to the inference that these portions of our ritual were of an earlier date than King James' Bible . 'The lecturer was warmly thanked by the VV . AL , and by Bros . Gould and Rylands , and a vote to that effect was carried by acclamation . The lecture can obviously not be printed in any form , it is , therefore , to be hoped that Bro . Dore will

ake every opportunity of delivering it in the various lodges of the country , as the more widely it is known the better will t be for the Craft . The following brethren were proposed from the chair as joining membersof the lodge , or Inner Circle , and were seconded from the chair of S . W ., as is the custom in this lodge , where no candidate is proposed except officially , and then only after having been practically elected in Committee of the whole lodge . The

brethren who have been the recipients of this honour are Bro . Ladislas de Malczovich , the local Secretary of the lodge in Budapest , of the Lodge St . Stephen in that city , the Vice-Secretary of the Hungarian Ministry of the Interior , and author of a history of early Freemasonry in Austria-Hungary , now passing through the pages of the lodge's "Transactions" ; and Bro . E . Conder , jun ., of Charlbury , and Lodge No . 103 G , the local Secretary for Oxfordshire , Renter-Warden of the Alasons' Company of the City of

London , the history of which Company he is now printing . Several curious exhibits were called attention to by the Secretary , among them being a Scotch certificate of 1 S 07 , announcing that the owner had been " uplifted " to the Degree of a Royal Arch Mason ; certificates of Craft and Royal Arch , Nova Scotia , and a captain ' s commission in the Marines of . late last century , together with the Royal Arch ? pron and sash of the gallant brother , interesting from the fact that the colours of the ribbon are the same as now in

use , and thus throwing the Koyal Arch clothing back to before the Union ; and a Battersea enamel Alasonic medallion , presented to the lodge by Bro . S . R . Baskett . The labours of this interesting sitting having thus been brought to a conclusion , the brethren adjourned to the Holborn Restaurant for much-needed refreshment .

Derby Allcroft Lodge ( No . 2 iC 8 ) . —Them . stallation meeting was held at , the Midland Grand Hotel , St , Pancras , on theyth inst ., when a largi-nu Tiber of brethren assembled to witness the installation ot Bro . Wm . Thomas , as W . Al . for the ensuing year . Owing to the lamented death of the esteemed W . AL , Bro . VV . F . Lord , the brethren

The minutes having been confirmed , Bro . H . J . Allcroft , 2 S 9 , son of the late Bro . J . D . Allcroft , P . G . Treas . —after whom the lodge was named—was unanimously elected a joining member . Bro . VV . Thomas , P . M ., was presented by the D . C . as W . M . elect , and was installed into the chair in an able and impressive manner by Bro . J . P . Fitzgerald , P . AL The following officers were appointed and invested : Bros . J . W . Dixon , P . AL , S . W . ; W . Lawrence , J . W . j

E . Y . Jolliffe , P . AL , Treas . ; R . D . Cummings , P . M ., Sec ; R . J . Smerdon , S . D . ; J . Nash , J . D . ; A . Boden , I . G . ; S . Garcia , P . AL , D . C . ; I . Haskins , Org . ; VV . Alackie , P . AL , and J . Demetrius , Stewards ; and Goddard , Tyler . Bro . VV . Thomas , W . Al ., referred in sympathetic terms to the death of Bro . Lord , W . AL , which occurred but a short time previously , and moved that a resolution of condolence should be forwarded to the widow and family ,

expressing the regret and sympathy of the brethren in the irreparable loss they had sustained . It was also resolved that the necessary steps should be taken to secure the election of ason of the deceased brother to the R . M . I . B . at the next election , that being his first and only opportunity on account of the age limit . Letters of regret for non-attendance were read , and the lodge was closed . An excellent banquet was followed by the customary

toasts . Bro . Col . G . Noel Aloney , C . B ., P . G . M . Surrey , replying for "The Grand Officers , " said he felt it not only a pleasure , but a privilege to return thanks for the kind and flattering way in which the W . AL had proposed the toast . The W . AL had spoken of the readiness and willingness of the Grand Officers to perform any work , and no brother deserved that comment more than the Pro Grand Alaster , for

whatever he did he did with all his might , and in nothing more than in Freemasonry . They would all hope the Pro Grand Master was now restored to health , as he was about to take a prominent part in the consecration of the Chancery Bar Lodge . The names of the various Grand Officers were often mentioned , and were known wherever Freemasonry existed , and it was therefore a privilege to return thanks in their behalf . He was sure he was expressing the feelings

of the Grand Officers present when he thanked the W . AL and brethren for their hospitality , and their admiration for the good and perfect Alasonic work done both b y the Installing Alaster , whose work won the admiration of all , and also the W . Al . He begged to offer the congratulations of the Grand Officers on the position of the lodge , and to the VV . AL , and wish him a happy and prosperous year . Bro . S . Cochrane , G . Treas ., also replied , and said the

Grand Officers devoted a great deal of time to the work of the Craft , and as long as they enjoyed the confidence of the brethren , so long would its prosperity continue . The late W . Al . was a member of the Logic Club , where many brethren were taught to work , and therefore they should put their shoulders to the wheel to secure his son ' s election to the Boys' School . The three Grand Treasurers present had promised to assist , so that they might be enabled to

show Airs . Lord there was something more in I ' reemasonry than a name . Bro . R . Eve , P . G . Treas ., said they all deeply regretted the loss the lodge had sustained , but in thinking of the past they always looked with pleasure and hope to the future . They had had the pleasure of placing in the chair a brother who was worthy of their choice . He had had the pleasure of the acquaintance of Bro . Thomas for many ( years , not

only in Alasonry , but in other capacities , and having had the opportunity of judging , he believed him a thoroughly good and true man , gentleman , and brother . The choice of the brethren had fallen upon one who would fulfil all the requirements they mi g ht make upon him . Bro . Thomas had been an active spirit in Alasonry , having filled the chair on a previous occasion and various offices in that lodge , and they knew he would discharge his duties and leave

nothing undone necessary for the good of the lodge . They rejoiced to see him placed in the chair of such a distinguished lodge , and the W . Al . knew and realised the great duties b : fore him . The brethren would constantly wish their VV . AL a successful yearof office , feeling sure that nothing would be left untried to serve a term of office that would redound to the credit of this prosperous lodge . Bro . VV . Thomas , W . AL , said it was always difficult to

respond for the toast of the Worshipful Master of the Derby Allcroft Lodge , but it was much more difficult on the present occasion , particularly as it had been proposed by such an orator as Bro . Eve , P . G . Treas . It was impossible to respond in adequate terms for the flattering way in which the toast had been given . The members had honoured him by electing him as VV . AL , and , as he had said on other occasions , he would endeavour to discharge

his duty to their satisfaction , and do the best he could during his year for the credit of the lodge . Nothing he could possibly do would be left undone , and all he required was to retain their approbation and confidence . He thanked them for the enthusiastic way they had received the toast and would at once proceed with the next toast . Bro . McLeod being anxious to proceed to another lodge he would immediately ask him to respond for " The

Alasonic Chanties . When he ( the VV . AL ) represented the lodge as Steward at the next Festival of the Boys ' School he hoped to take up 300 guineas , and a member of the lodge had that evening ( Bro . J . H . Lewis ) given in his name for 50 guineas . Bro . J . AL AlcLeod , Sec . R . M . I . for Hoys , having thanked the VV . M . for his kindness , said the Hoys' Institution was

doing excellent work and the boys were in a healthy condition . 'They were also extremely well clothed , and the Board of Alanagement ha < t now supplied them with football suits . In the examinations they had been doing well , and there was an open examination of the whole school by an independent examiner . He thanked the W . AL for the

excellent way he had started his list and was grateful to Bro . Lewis for his gift . Bro . J . Terry , Sec . R . M . B . L , also replied , after which the Treasurer announced that the total on the W . M . ' s list amounted to £ 261 15 s . The W . M ., in giving "The Installing Master , " said Bro . Fitzgerald was " one of the most popular brethren in the

lodge . Bro . J . P . Fitzgerald , P . M ., expressed the _ vast amount of pleasure it had afforded him to render assistance to the lodge , and appealed to the brethren to assist in securing the election of Bro . Lord ' s son to the Boys' School . Bro . G . Everett , P . G . Treas ., acknowledged " The Visitors . " and said he should best consult the wishes of the

brethren by saying but a few words . The visitors could not speak too highly of the unbounded hospitality and cordial reception they had received , and endorsed the remarks made as to the manner in which the business had been conducted . The installation had been carried out in an impressive manner , and the Alaster had shaped well , and given good promise for the future . The Grand Officers

present had promised to do all in their power to secure the election of Bro . Lord ' s son , and as one of the Board of Management of the Boys' School , he was gratified to hear the announcement of so magnificent a sum on the _ W . M . 's list . It was in accordance with the fitness of things that three P . G . Treasurers should be present that night , for their first W . AL , whose name the lodge bore , was also a

P . G . Treas ., and was the one chosen to break down the barrier which so long deprived the Craft of the privilege it now enjoyed of selecting each year one of its own choosing as an officer of Grand Lodge . In speakingof Bro . J . Derby Allcroft , he must say how much they all regretted his loss . The late brother always spoke with pride of the position he held in Freemasonry , more especially as regarded his connection with the Derby Allcroft Lodge . His name was a

household word in the charitable world , and he would be greatly missed . Bros . G . Fairchild , P . M ., Jackson , Hambleton , and others , also responded , and other toasts were given , before the Tyler ' s toast terminated a successful gathering . The musical programme was in the hands of Bro . Dr . Haskins , P . P . G . Org . Essex , assisted by Bros . W . Coward , F . Bevan , A . James , R . Hilton , VV . Edwards , Alaldwyn Humphreys , Theo . Carrington , VV . Short , and E . James .

AL , Bro . VV . F . Lord , the brethren

wore Alasonic mourning . The lodge was opened by Bro . J . P . Fitzgerald , P . AL , supported by Bros . j . P . Harding , I . P . M . ; W . Thomas , S . VV ., VV . AL elect ; J . W . Uixon , J .

AL , D . C . ; I .

James .
