J . R . Cutler , P . M ., was re-elected Treasurer , and Bro . T . Grieve was re-elected Tyler . The W . AL proceeded to express his high sense of satisfaction at having present so many Prov . Grand Officers , Past Masters , and visitors . It was naturally a source of more

than ordinary satisfaction , inasmuch as that year one of the Past Masters of the lodge , who had been a very diligent servant of the province for some years past in the position of Prov . A . G . Sec , had commended himself to the whole of the brethren in the province , and had received the highest honour which the Prov . jJGrand Master could confer . They all hoped that Bro . Pattison would long be

spared with health and strength to continue his services as an officer of the province . Bro . J . R . Pattison , P . AL , P . S . G . W ., said : Brethren , —There is an old and somewhat hackneyed phrase which is often used , viz ., "This is the proudest moment of my life . " On the present occasion I think that it will be difficult for me to find or use more suitable words to define my position , because most certainly

I do consider this to be the proudest moment of my " Alasonic " life to be able to stand up in my mother lodge as the Senior Provincial Warden ot the year . It is an honour of which I feel proud , both on my own account and also because I look upon it as an honour to the grand old lodge to which I belong . I will not pretend to say that I have not tried to do my best during the past seven

years I have filled the post of Assistant Secretary to deserve recognition at the hands of our Provincial Grand Alaster , at the same time I must admit that I consider the high honour that has fallen to my lot is a more ample reward than I ever anticipated . However , brethren , I can assure you that the services I have rendered in the past I shall be only too happy to continue , both for

the good of Masonry in the province and especially my mother lodge . It is gratifying to note the extraordinary vitality displayed by our old lodge after an existence of nearly a century and a half , it seems as strong as it ever was , and as popular with the brethren from all the other lodges in the town , and in fact from all parts of the province . I congratulate my old friend , Bro . Readhead , on his

unanimous election to the chair of the lodge , and wish him a happy and successful year of office . I also must congratulate the lodge upon having initiated and added to its members such an estimable candidate as Bro . Gibbon , a gentleman whom I am sure will reflect credit on our lodge . On behalf of the Provincial Grand Lodge of Durham , I thank you . The lodge was afterwards closed .

At the refreshment board , the W . AL , after having given " The Queen " and " The Grand Alaster of England , " in proposing " The Officers of Grand Lodge , " expressed his pleasure at coupling with the toast the name of Bro . R . Hudson , Past G . S . B . Eng ., Prov . G . Sec , who was always a welcome visitor to Sunderland . Bro . Hudson , in responding , referred to the fact that he

first saw the light of Alasonry in that , the Palatine Lodge , upwards of 30 years ago , and it had always been his constant study to promote the interests of the Craft , and to discharge to the best of his ability the duties of whatever office he was appointed to . He commei . ded his position to the brethren present , inasmuch as he had risen from being a Steward of the lodge to be a Past Officer of the Grand

Lodge of England . "The Health of the W . AL elect" was proposed by Bro . J . C . Aloor , P . J . G . D ., who made allusion to the great antiquity of the lodge , which had existed for nearly 150 years , and had upon its roll of Past Masters some of those who had occupied the most distinguished position in the

province , including the present Prov . Grand Alaster . Bro . VV . Redhead suitably responded , and said he would do his very best to fulfil the duties of the office to which he had been elected , and to which he hoped in due time to be duly installed . Other toasts followed .

TWICKENHAM . Sir Francis Burdett Lodge ( No . 1503 ) , —A meeting of this lodge was held at the Albany Hotel , on the Sth inst ., when there were present , among others , Bros . A . Toulmin , jun ., I . P . M ., in the chair ; R . Perry , S . W ; E . W . Davis , J . VV . ; J . T . Briggs , P . AL , P . P . G . D ., Treas . ; Capt . T . C . Walls , P . AL , P . P . G . W ., G .

The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed , the ballot was taken on behalf of Air . Alexander

Burnett , and he being in attendance was duly initiated . The acting W . AL then impressively installed Bro . R . Perry into the chair of K . S ., assisted by Bros . W . Taylor , as S . W . j W . Bro . J . Wilson Rogers , the oldest initiate of the lodge . Bro . the Rev . S . T . H . Saunders having been elected to represent the lodge as Steward at the Festival of the Royal Alasonic Institution for Boys , the Secretary gave a notice of motion to vote him a sum of money from the funds to head his list . AL being of so many years' standing . The Worshipful Alaster , in rising to reply , was received with very hearty greeting . He thanked Bro . Stonham for

his kind expressions and the brethren for the great indulgence he had received from them . He much regretted the absence of his great friend , Bro . Dickinson , that evening , but trusted the day was not far distant when they might meet again at that festive board with Bro . Dickinson present with them . He assured the brethren his whole ambition was to advance the interests of Freemasonry generally , and

of this lodge particularly , and that he hoped at the end of his year he should still hold the respect ot every brother of the lodge . " The Masonic Charities " was proposed by Bro . George Ker , P . J .
