Spurgeon , 45 . Bro . Thorp , of Leicester , exhibited a large parchment certificate granted by thc Grand Orient of France in 177 O to the celebrated Roettier dc Montaleau , signed by all the most prominent French Masons of that day ; a beautiful Masonic medallion of Battersea enamel , and a curious silver jewel . The Secretary exhibited a beautiful letter of congratulation , illuminated , sent by the brethren of the
C . C in Denmark to the lodge on the occasion of its ioth anniversary , and the warrant appointing the late Bro . Whymper , District G . AL of the Punjab , presented to the lodge by Bro . Leslie . Bro . W . F . Ne * man exhibited a handsome and very rare silver gilt jewel , with the figures and emblems in relief , much resembling the jewel of thc "Nine Worthies . " Bro . E . Conder , jun ., read a paper on the " Hon . Elizabeth St . Leger and Freemasonry , "
bringing to the attention of the brethren many curious facts connected with the initiation of this lady which had previously never been investigated with sufficient accuracy . The result is that it is now proved beyond doubt that the lady was made a Alason , not in 1735 , as hitherto alleged , nor yet in a regular lodge under the Irish Constitution , but between 1710 and 171 S , i . e ., from seven to 15 years before any Grand Lodge existed in Ireland , and even probably
before a Grand Lodge was founded in England . Written comments on this important paper were received from Bros . Hughan , Rylands , and Dr . Chetwode Crawley , the latter ol" whom sent for exhibition a similar jewel to that worn by the lady in question . Bro . H . D . Williams also brought a similar one with him , but it differed in some slight particulars , though probably dating from about the same time . The brethren subsequently dined at the Holborn Restaurant .

Lodge liaving been opened , and the minutes of the previous meeting read and confirmed , the ballot was taken for Mr . Thomas Cook , and proving unanimous in his favour , that gentleman was initiated into the mysteries of the First Degree . Bro . VV . F . Pickin was then raised to the sublime degree of M . M ., after which Bro . the Rev . W . Quennell , S . W . and VV . AI . elect , was presented , and received at the hands of the outgoing W . AI . the benefit of installation .
After the customary salutations , Bro . the Rev . VV . Quennell appointed and invested the following brethren as his officers for the new year , namely : Bros . J . Bunker , S . W . ; G . A . Sims , J . W . ; the Rev . R . II . Pope , Chap . ; F . O . Lane , P . M ., Treas . ; Charles Bullock , P . M ., Sec . ; E . J . Pearson , S . D . ; A . F . Marsh , J . D . ; H . J . Burt , I . G . ; F . Whatmoor , Org . ; VV . Wilson , P . M ., and G . II . Wagstaff , Studs . ; and A . Pavett , Prov . Asst . G . Tyler , Tyler .
Bro . Chas . Bullock having been reappointed representative of the lodge on the Hertfordshire Charity Association , and Bro . the Rev . C . J . Langley having been presented with a Past Master's jewel in recognition of his services as W . M . during the pastyear , a very interesting letter was read fro Bro . the Rev . S . Lea Wilson , who was installed the first W . M . after the consecration of the lodge on the ist January , 1 S 45 , in which that
venerable brother congratulated the lodge on its success , aud expressed his regret that age and infirmities prevented him from accepting the lodge's courteous invitation to be present on that auspicious occasion . Lodge was then closed with the customary formalities . The brethren afterwards dined together under the presidency of the new W . M ., who was supported on his right by the Prov . Grand Master , and on his left by the LP . AL
On the removal of the cloth the customary toasts were honoured , that of " The Prov . Grand AIaster" being received vvith the greatest enthusiasm . Bro . Halsey , in acknowledging the toast , expressed the pleasure it gave him to be present at the jubilee of a lodge , which , in the 30 years of its existence , had attained to a position of such prosperity , more especially as it was his good fortune to have been one of its members for very
many years , and he gave utterance to the hope that the future of the lodge would prove as successful as its past . The toast of "The VV . M . " was also received with cordiality , and that of "The Visitors , " to which Bros , the Rev . George Finch and the Rev . O . C . Cock r ^ m replied , in like manner . There was also introduced for thc occasion a toast in honour of Bro . the Rev . S . Lea Wilson , the first VV . M . of
the lodge , and ia his absence it was acknowledged by his namesake , Bro . VV . Wilson , P . M ., P . G . P . The other toasts were likewise honoured , and in due course one of the most successful meetings ever held under the banner of thc Berkhampstead Lodge was brought to an end . The musical arrangements had been placed in charge of Bro . John Read , P . Z . Cecil Chapter , No . 449 , and Past G .
Organist of Supreme Grand Chapter , and the programme of vocal and instrumental music he prepared was received , as it deserved to be , with the liveliest pleasure ; among the selections which elicited the heartiest applause being the Intermezzo from Mascagni's " Cavalleria Rusticana , " which Aliss Alaud Home played to perfection on the violin , and for which she was honoured with an encore ; "Big Ben" and " In Cellar cool , " by Bro . Barry Lindon ; "The message , " by Bro . Laurence Fryer , and a ballad by Master
Read , Bro . Read himself very ably discharging the part of accompanyist . Indeed , it rarely happens that so admirable a programme Is placed before a lodge , and , what is still more to the purpose , so artistically carried out . Nor must we forget to say a word in behalf of the menu , with its portraits of the first and present VVorshipfuI Alasters and its selection of mottoes in connection with the toasts . This was , indeed , a work of art , and reflects credit both on thc brother who compiled it and the printer .
BOSTON . Lodge Of Harmony ( No . 272 ) . —The annual festival and installation meeting of this old lodge was held on Tuesday , the Sth inst ., at the Masonic Hall . There were present : Bros . C . F . Anderson , W . M .,- F . Blanshard , S . VV . ; H . Hinds , J . W . ; C R . Morton , P . M ., D . C ; 1 . G . Robinson , Org . ; VV . H . Robinson , S . D . ; F . H . ' Walker , J . D . ; F . G . M . elect ; and a number of brethren . Among the visitors were Bros . T . Thiselthwaite , P . M ., and T . Reading , 838 , and the Rev . H . S . Biggs , J . W . 523 . The minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed . The W . M . then vacated the chair in favour of Bro . J . H .
Tasker , P . M ., who installed Bro . Thos . Beaulah as VV . M . for the ensuing year . The W . M . then invested his ofiicers as follows : Bros . C . F . Anderson , I . P . M . ; H . Hinds , S . W . ; F . H . Walker , J . VV . ; G . T . IUU , P . M ., Treas . ; T . Sharpe , Sec . ; J . H . Tasker , P . AL , D . C . ; VV . H . Robinson , A . D . C ; J . G . Buck , Org . ; J . G . Robinson , S . D . ; F . C . Mountain , J . D . ; F . Blanshard , l . G . ; G . Maltby , Stwd . ; and T . Ward , Tyler . 'The Treasurer ' s
account was approved and passed , and showed that , while the Masonic Charities had received due recognition at the hands of the brethren , there was a fair balance in hand . Apologies were received from a number of brethren , and , after " Hearty good wishes " had been given by the visiting brethren , the lodge was closed . The brethren then adjourned to the Peacock and Royal Hotel , where the banquet was prepared by Bro . R . II .
Clemow . About 25 brethren sat down under the presidency of the VV . M ., Bro . T . Beaulah . Full justice having been done to the good things provided , the usual loyal and Alasonic toasts were submitted by the W . M ., and were received in the hearty manner usual at such meetings . Bro . C . F . Anderson , I . P . M ., proposed the toast of "The Worshipful Master . " The Worshipful Alaster , in reply , asked foi thc cordial
support of the Past Masters , officers , and brethren during his year of office . The toast of " The Visitors " was proposed by Bro . F . Blanshiiid , and was responded toby the visiting brethren present . The Tyler ' s toast brought a very pleasant and enjoyable evening to a close . Bros I ) . Stephenson , J . H . Tasker , IL Hinds , and the Rev . H . S . Biggs added considerably to the pleasure of the brethren by their vocal efforts , while Bro . F . Blanshard amused them by his clever recitations .

F . Piggott , P . M .. There were 23 Past Masters presented at the Board of Installed Masters . Subsequently the Prov . Grand Alaster , in behalf of the lodge , presented a Past Master's jewel to Bro . C . H .
Banham , P . P . G . Reg ., remarking that it was always a satisfaction to look back upon one's own work creditably performed , but it was a still greater satisfaction to know that that work had met with the unanimous approval of the brethren as was here testified by the jewel which the Iodge now presented to him . At the close of the lodge , the brethren sat down to
banquet , under the presidency of Bro . J . L . Rutter , W . M ., who gave the usual loyal and Alasonic toasts . 'The Provincial Grand Master , in responding to the toast of his health , congratulated the brethren on the pleasure of seeing the work of installation so impressively done by Bro . B . Chennell , whilst the charges given by Bro . T . Nicholls also reflected great credit on the lodge , which kept
up the standard of its work to the pitch of excellence . Everything about the lodge—the appointments , the chairs , and even the old firing glasses—spoke of its antiquity , and it was not surprising that they should carry on its ancient traditions in every respect . He was glad to find that there existed a friendly rivalry between 88 and 441 , which could not but conduce to the efficiency of both lodges .
Still , without impairing them , he should like to see some of their superfluous energy go out to establish other lodges in thc county , at such centres as Ely , March , and Chatteris . This , again would re-act on their Alasonic Charities , and increase the support to those noble Institutions . He commended the suggestion to their best consideration , and trusted that the lodge would continue to flourish in thc
future as it had done in the past . Bro . F . Piggott , P . M ., proposed "The Health of the D . P . G . M ., and the rest of the Prov . Grand Officers , Present and Past , " for whom Bro . Rev . H . S . Cronin , P . G . Chap ., replied . Bro . C II . Banham , I . P . M ., gave " The Health of the W . M ., " which was warmly received . Having spoken of his own experience , he expressed the hope that Bro . Rutter
would have health and strength to go through a prosperous and happy year . The Worshipful Master hoped he would have plenty of work to show what mettle he was made of . He concluded with the toast of " The Past Masters . Bro . T . Nichols , P . AL , responded , and said that although he had gained the summit of Alasonry , alike in Craft and Royal Arch work , he still felt himself to be a novice , so much was there to learn in it , for the benefit of one's self and for that of others .
Bro . W . P . Spalding , P . M ., proposed " The Visitors , " and replies were made by Bros . J . J . C . Turner , P . M . 51 ; J . Catling , W . M . 441 ; A . J . Elworthy , W . M . 809 ; T . E . Worlledge , P . M . 1492 ; and Lewis , P . M . 1248 and 159 S , The last-named brother said he represented the lodge in
which Bro . A . E . Chaplin was initiated , and was glad to sec that the lodge had now placed him in the S . W . chair . " The Masonic Charities " and other toasts followed , and a most delightful evening was spent , the harmony of which was materially contributed to by Bros . W . Purchas , 1 . Fuller , W . 1 . Pashler , and A . I . Elwoithy .

bringing to the attention of the brethren many curious facts connected with the initiation of this lady which had previously never been investigated with sufficient accuracy .

D . C ; J . G . Buck , Org . ; J . G . account was approved and passed , and showed that , while the Masonic Charities had received due recognition at the hands of the brethren , there was a fair balance in hand .
M ., Bro . T . Beaulah . support of the Past Masters , officers , and brethren during his year of office . The toast of " The Visitors " was proposed by Bro . F .
I . Elwoithy .
