WAREHAM—Unity Lodge ( No . 386 ) . —A ceremony which , in one respect , is probably unique in the annals of Freemasonry was performed by Bro . Heath , Grand Chaplain , on the Sth inst . The candidate for initiation was theRev . Henry Pelham Stokes , the rector , who is well known in Dorsetshire and elsewhere as an energetic advocate of Temperance principles , and the W . M . of the lodge , Bro . Tribbett , who is not a member of the Established
Church , suggested , in a very tolerant spirit , that he should set the example of vacating the chair in favour of one of the same sacred profession as the candidate , the result being , as a sufficient number of the clergy were present , an unanimous surrender of the various collars of office . The lodge having been opened in due form by its own officers , the chairs were re-assigned to the following brethren : Bros . VV

TROWBRIDGE . —Lodge of Concord ( No . 632 ) . —At the regular monthly meeting of this lodge on Tuesday , Sth inst ., there was an unusually large attendance of brethren and visitors from neighbouring lodges . Bro . James Lansdown vvas raised to the Sublime Degree of M . M ., the W . M ., Bro . F . Kelland , performing the ceremony in a highly impressive manner , ably assisted by the officers of
the lodge . Bro . G . H . Knight vvas then passed to the Second Degree . Subsequently Messrs . W . H . Laverton , C . J . Hart , and C J . Offer , were initiated into the mysteries of Freemasonry . The VV . M . conducted the whole of the ceremonies , which lasted about three and a half hours . The members and visitors then adjourned to supper at the George Hotel .
LEEDS . —Goderich Lodge ( No . 1211 ) . —The usual meeting of this lodge took place on the 7 th inst ., at the Masonic Hall , Great George-street , and proved the most successful that has been held under the gavel of the genial W . proposed " That Bro . Youings be presented by the lodge with a P . M . 's jewel , to mark the admirable manner in which he had discharged the duties appertaining to the chair of K . S . " This vvas seconded by Bro . Y . Smith , supported by Bro . Winn , P . M ., P . P . G . S . of W „ and carried vvith acclamation . The scrolling for VV . M . vvas then proceeded with , and was unanimously in favour of Bro . W . H . Bradford
the S . W . Bro . Fourness , P . M ., vvas re-elected Treasurer , and Bro . S . Barraud , Tyler . Bro . Jaques gave notice of a resolution increasing the initiation fees of this lodge . It was stated that the P . G . M ., Bro . T . W . Tew , had signified his intention of investing Bro . Townsend , P . M ., Prov . G . Org ., vvith the clothing and jewel which had been subscribed by the Leeds brethren , as a token of their appreciation of
services rendered on behalf of the Leeds Benevolent Institution . Upwards of 50 brethren were present at the supper , and the evening vvas one of the happiest in the history of the lodge , speech and song providing an enjoyable evening . It should be stated that Bro . Balfour , M . P ., vvas detained by his Parliamentary duties in London .
NORTH WOOLWICH . —Henley Lodge ( No . 1472 . —The installation meeting of the above popular Iodge took place on Tuesday , the 1 st inst ., at the Three Crowns Hotel , Bro . E . West ' s comfortable hostelry , vvhen Bro . J . Paul , S . W . and W . M . elect , vvas with the usual ceremonies placed in the chair of K . S ., and saluted according to ancient custom . The lodge was opend by the W . M ., Bro . C . Jolly , and the minutes of the previous meeting having
been confirmed , the ballot vvas taken for Mr . Frederick Langton , and proving unanimous , that gentleman vvas duly initiated by the W . M ., and Bro . Paul was then presented to the W . M ., to receive at his hands the benefit of installation . Bro . Jolly installed his successor in such a manner as commended him to the encomiums of all present . Bro . Jolly was presented with a handsome Past Master's jewel of the value of ten
guineas , especially manufactured by Bro . George Kenning , at Little Britain ; it vvas much admired , and Bro . Jolly returned thanks . It was further resolved "That a vote of thanks be tendered to Bro . Jolly for the admirable manner in vvhich he had that day installed his successor , the same to be inscribed on the minutes of the lodge , and that a vellum engrossed vvith a copy of
the vote , should be mounted and framed and presented to Bro . Jolly , at a cost not exceeding five guineas . " Bro . Jolly having again thanked the brethren for this further mark of their esteem , it vvas unanimously resolved " That Bro . J . Ives , late Secretary of the lodge , should be made an honorary member , as some recognition of his valuable services as lodge Secretary during the past seven years and
Bro . J . Ives duly returned thanks . The "Hearty good wishes" of the visitors present having been tendered , the Iodge vvas closed in due form . thoroughly enjoyed . At its conclusion the W . M proposed the usual loyal and Masonic toasts in suitable terms , and the brethren loyally responded . Bro . Jolly , I . P . M ., then proposed the toast of "The W . M . " and in the course of his remarks bore testimony to the zeal and ability of their new VV . M . whom he characterised as a good worker and a good Mason , and a
good man . Ihe toast was drunk with cheers , and in response Bro . Paul said it was impossible for him to do adequate justice to the toast , especially as hc had to follow such a fluent and indeed eloquent speaker as their I . P . M ., but he could assure them that his desire for the progress of Freemasonry vvas only equalled by his determination so to
conduct the business of the lodge that its prestige should never suffer , and that its harmony and ritual should be sustained up to , and if possible , although that vvas scarcely possible , even above its present high standard . He could assure them that he fully realised the obligation of his position , and vvould , vvith their assistance , so carry out his duties that when he left the chair they might say he had done
well for the lodge and Masonry generally . He then resumed his seat amid great cheering . The other toasts were "The Past Masters , " "Installing Officer , " " Visitors , " " Initiate , " and " Officers , " all of which were severally responded to . Several excellent songs vvere sung , and then " God save the Queen " concluded a very successful and pleasant day ' s work .

WAREHAM—Unity Lodge ( No . 386 ) . —A ceremony which , in one respect , is probably unique in the annals of Freemasonry was performed by Bro . Heath , Grand Chaplain , on the Sth inst . The candidate for initiation was theRev . Henry Pelham Stokes , the rector , who is well known in Dorsetshire and elsewhere as an energetic advocate of Temperance principles , and the W . M . of the lodge , Bro . Tribbett , who is not a member of the Established
Church , suggested , in a very tolerant spirit , that he should set the example of vacating the chair in favour of one of the same sacred profession as the candidate , the result being , as a sufficient number of the clergy were present , an unanimous surrender of the various collars of office . Paul said it was impossible for him to do adequate justice to the toast , especially as hc had to follow such a fluent and indeed eloquent speaker as their I . P . M ., but he could assure them that his desire for the progress of Freemasonry vvas only equalled by his determination so to
conduct the business of the lodge that its prestige should never suffer , and that its harmony and ritual should be sustained up to , and if possible , although that vvas scarcely possible , even above its present high standard . He could assure them that he fully realised the obligation of his position , and vvould , vvith their assistance , so carry out his duties that when he left the chair they might say he had done
well for the lodge and Masonry generally . He then resumed his seat amid great cheering . The other toasts were "The Past Masters , " "Installing Officer , " " Visitors , " " Initiate , " and " Officers , " all of which were severally responded to .
