Deceased , who was an old inhabitant of Tottenham , and a member of the Burial Board , vvas highly respected by all vvho knew him . From the great interest he took in all matters of Charity

The floral wreaths and crosses , vvhich vvere placed in the coffin , were numerous and elegant ; nutably one from the members of the High Cross Lodge of Instruction , of which the deceased vvas Treasurer .

BRO . ALBERT GALLATIN GOODALL , 33 . It is vvith deep regret that vve announce the death of our late esteemed Bro . A . G . Goodall which occurred very suddenly at his private residence in New York , U . S . A ., on the 19 th ult . Ihe obsequies were performed on the alternoon of the following VVednesday at the Masonic Temple in New York City , U . S . A ., vvith a solemnity and

impressiveness fully becoming the occasion ar . d the surroundings . All the trans-Atlantic Masonic Bodies of which our late illustrious brolher vvas a member , vvere in numerous attendance . The Morton Commandery , No . 4 , K . T ., of vvhich the deceased was Past Eminent Commander , marched in as escort of the Body . Previous Io the observance of the Masonic funeral rites , a private service was held at Bro .

Goodall s late residence , at vvhich the Rev . Dr . Chas . F . Deems , P . G . C . of the Grand Lodge , officiated . At the latter service there were delegations present from sixty Masonic Organisations . Over 200 of the employees of the American Bank Note Company , of vvhich the deceased had acted as President for some years past , attended , and the Trustees sentalarge delegations . At least 1000 people were

in the hall during the exercises , vvhich included several hymns and dirges sung by a male quartett from the lodge . Alter the service , the remains were viewed by nearly everybody present . The floral pieces were very elaborate . For the past seven-and-twenty years the late Bro . Albert G . Goodall occupied a prominent position in Masonic circles on both sides of the Atlantic . He was a Past Master of

the Holland Lodge , No . S ; High Priest of the Jerusalem Chapter , No . 8 , R . A . M . ; Past Grand Sword Bearer ot the Grand Lodge of the State of New York ; Most Venerable President of the Masonic Veteran Association ; Grand Representative of ihe United Grand Lodge of England ; Grand Representative of the Supreme Council of England and Wales ; and Very Eminent Deputy Grand Commander

of the Grand Commandery of the State of New York , of vvhich offices , the last four mentioned , hc vvas holding at the time of his decease . Our late lamented brother vvas born sixty years ago at Montgomery , Ala . When young he served as midshipman in the Texas Navy , before that Slate vvas annexed to the United States . He afterwards went to Havana , where he

engaged in theengraving business . 1 hence became to New Yoik , and connected himself vvith the old firm of A . Cousland and Co ., the original organisers of the American Bank Note Company , vvith vvhich he was associated during the past 30 jear ; , in the last 12 of vvhich he held the office of President . It is worthy of mention , as a fact of interest , perhaps not generally known , lhat Bro . Goodall received

trom the Grand Matter of the Grand Lodge of New York , in 1 S 69 , an extraordinary honour—accorded , vve believe , but once before—to wit—the appointment of General Forei gn Representative of the Grand Lodge of the State of New York near all Grand Masonic Bodies in amity with it throughout the world . His honourable discharge of the important duties so confided to him is a matter ot -histoiy ,

antl the dignity of the Grand Lodge of the State of New York was gracefully upheld and subserved at every Grand East at vvhich Bro . Goodall presented his credentials . By request of prominent members of the Fraternity in England , Bro . Goodall obtained permission from the Masonic authorities of the State of New York , and assisted by the then Grand Lecturer , HI . Bro . Jackson H . Chase ,

33 , established the Degrees of Most Excellent Master , under jurisdiction of the Grand Mark Lodge cf England , and organized a Grand Council of Royal Select and Super-Excellent Masters , in London , August 4 th , 1 S 71 , for England , Wales , and Dependencies of Great Britain . He attained the Degrees cf the Royal Order of Scotland , H . K M ., in the Provincial Grand Lodge and Chapter cf

that Order in London , August ist , 1 S 73 ; vvas honorary member of the Supreme Council , 33 ° , for the Southern Jurisdiction of the United States , England and VVales , and Dependencies of Great Biitain , Italy , Greece , Brazil , and Peru ; Grand Representative of several Supreme Councils near the Supreme Council , for the Northern Jurisdiction of the United States ; also Representative of the Grand Mark

Lodge of England , with rank of Past Grand Warden , and the Grand Council of Royal , Select and Super-Excellent Masters near all the bodies of those Degrees in the United States ; and in 1 S 76 he vvas made a member of "The Masonic Veterans" in the State ot New Yoik , and at the time of his death vvas the presiding officer of that body . We have thus endeavoured to give , however imperfectly , something of the secular and Masonic experience of one

vvho might have been emphasised as the architect of his own fortunes ; master of his destiny ; in fact , a self-made man ; and , though thrown upon his own resources at an eaily age , failed not to appreciate the situation and rose superior to its embarrasments , and step by step , from youth to manhood , maintained his self-respect and commanded the unbought regard of his fellows . As President of the American Bank Note Company he attained a secular

status of which the most exalted ambition might have been justly proud , while as an active member of the Supreme Council of the North he stood second to none in Mason ' - dignity and honour . In social life the subject of our sketch combined vvith native modesty and genial disposition all the graces and ease of a true and noble gentleman , all of the olden time .

Deceased , who was an old inhabitant of Tottenham , and a member of the Burial Board , vvas highly respected by all vvho knew him . From the great interest he took in all matters of Charity

( more particularly the Masonic Institutions ) , his loss will be deeply felt . He vvas one of the founders and Treasurer or the First Tottenham and Enfield Masonic Charitable Association , serving also respectively as Vice-President and President of the two succeeding Associations .

Bro . Jackson H . Chase ,
