that was his first visit to the lodge he had nevertheless heard of the Masonic abilities of the W . M . at other lodges . Bro . Peterson , W . M ., briefly responded . The Tyler ' s toast concluded an enjoyable meeting , Bros . Rendell , Smith , Hirst , Godwin , and Boyle contributing songs , duet , and recitation to the harmony of the evening .
CAMBRIDGE . Scientific Lodge ( No . SS ) . —At the monthly meeting of this lodge on the 14 th inst ., at the Lion Hotel , about 40 brethren were present , when Bro . W . P . Spalding , W . M ., ably performed the Third Degree , the candidate raised being Bro . C . Percy Jones . At the after proceedings , deep sympathy was expressed towards the M . W . Grand Master on the death of his
brotherin-law , the Grand Duke of Hesse ; congratulations were offered to Bro . Letchworth , the new Grand Secretary ; and pleasure was expressed that the D . P . G . M ., Bro . A . H . Moyes , had returned from a sojourn in the South apparently in much better health . Bros . Dixie , 442 , andH . J . Whitehead , 441 , responded on behalf of "The Visitors , " and spoke in praise of the work they had seen .

There was a heavy agenda to get through , Bros . Pinder and G . O . Palmer being raised , Bros . Knowles and F . Palmer being passed , and Mr . W . T . Bowman being initiated , but Bro . Royston went through the whole of the work from the chair in a praiseworthy manner , and was ably supported by his officers . At the banquet which followed work , the Prov . Grand
Master , in returning thanks for the toast of his health , said the large attendance and the excellent work done that evening showed that the brethren of the lodge took very great interest in Masonry , and he thought it would be a long time before the lodge would wish to change its number , by reason of other lodges dropping off . The number 441 was
a very luck y number , being a perfect square—the square of 21 . And it was not only a perfect square , but 21 was formed of two prime numbers , 3 and 7 , to both of which considerable Masonic interest was attached . Two candidates were proposed for initiation at the next lodge meeting .

DIDSBURY . Doric Lodge ( No . 2359 ) . —The regular meeting of this lodge was held at the Didsbury Hotel , on Saturday , the 12 th inst ., when there was , as usual , a very large attendance . Bro . C . E . Towcll , W . M ., presided . The lodge was opened , and the minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed . T he business of the day was to ballot
for two joining members , both being duly elected , & c , and to raise Bro . Harry Shute * , the ceremony being performed in a most efficient and finished manner by the W . M . The working tools were v * . ry effectively presented by Bro . Frederick Stretch , S . W . The sum of £ 1 was contributed from the Charity Fund and sent to the Editor of the Chronicle for the relief fund of the survivors of Ihe
Balaclava Six Hundred . All business being complete and " Hearty good wishes " being expressed from the numerous visitors , the lodge was closed . Subsequently at the festive board the usual loyal and Masonic toasts were given and responded to , and thc enjoyment of the evening was greatly enhanced by a large number of talented brethren contributing respectively

The brethren then adjourned to the baiquet , which was admirably served by Bro . Mayo . The toast of" The Queen and the Craft" was loyally and enthusiastically received . The W . M . then rose and gave the toast of "The M . W . G . M ., H . R . H . the Prince of Wales , and the rest of the Grand Officers , Present and Past . " Bro . G . Everett , G . Treas ., in reply , said it was with
considerable diffidence he rose to respond to the toast when he had a superior officer of the Craft present . He was very pleased to meet their popular Provincial Grand Master there ,. and thanked the brethren for the kindness they had been good enough to render him , and assistance when he was most in need of it . He was very p leased to be there that day , and he should carry away with him the pleasant recollections of his first visit to the lodge .
The Worshipful Master then gave the toast of "The R . W . P . G . M ., " remarking that all must remember the cordial manner Bro . Col . G . N . Money was received as Grand Master for the Province of Surrey . The Prov . Grand Master on rising , was the signal for a perfect ovation . He said : Bro . Everett has felt great diffidence in making his speech , but I feel my inability to make a speech at all . I can rule a lodge and I can guide a
lodge , but 1 cannot make a speech . 1 am obliged for your inviting me here to-day , and I am sure the work in the Surrey lodges is second to noneand I congratulate the l . P . M . for the able way in which he has done the work ; it certainly is a pattern for any one to follow . Bro . Cama , P . G . T ., P . P . S . G . W ., in responding to the call of the brethren , also replied . He was pleased to hear from Colonel Money that no province could beat the
Province of Surrey in working . He loved Freemasonry , for it knew no distinction in race , colour , or creed , lie regretted so many Grand Officers had passed away ; many had died in harness . He was delighted to be present , and as the father of the lodge joined with the Prov . Grand Master in good wishes for it . The toast of "The W . M . " was well given by the I . P . M ., who congratulated the Worshipful Master on having
attained the proud position , and trusted he would have a successful year of oflice . The Worshipful Master thanked the l . P . M . for his kind remarks , and said he was pleased to have been a founder of the lodge . From its commencement it had been nothing but pleasure to him , and he trusted to have thcassistance of the l . P . M . during his year of office . The Worshipful Master then nave the toast of " The
l . P . M ., " and pinned to his breast the jewel which had been voted by the brethren . The I . P . M ., in reply , thanked the brethren for this mark of their appreciation of his small services , and said he should ever remember the kind support he had received . The toast ol " The Visitors " was cordially received by the brethren . The W . M . said they were always pleased to see a good number of visitors , and thanked those who had
honoured them with their presence that day . Bro . Geo . Davis , P . M ., and others , responded . "The Past Masters , Treasurer , and Secretary" were toasted in high terms by the W . M ., and responded . The Secretary took occasion to remark that although thc Cyclist Lodge had not an immediate representative at the Jubilee Festival of the Benevolent Institution , yet many of thc brethren of the Cyclist Lodge had gone up as Stewards
from other lodges and lodges of instruction to which they belonged , and through their exertions a large sum had been brought into the Institution . Bro . Mason , P . M ., in reply , said he should represent the lodge at the Boys' Festival , and announced that Bro . I ) . P . Cama , P . M ., P . P . S . G . VV ., P . G . T ., had promised to place 90 guineas on his list . 'The toast of " The Officers" was ably putthe
, Worshipful Master congratulating himself on having such good officers , and he trusted they would give him their best assistance . The Officers replied , each pledging himself to emulate those worthy brethren before th ; m , and would do their best to keep up the prestige of the Cyclist Lodge . The 'Tyler's toast brought a most enjoyable evening' to a close . 1

After labour followed refreshment .
The W . M . had hospitably provided a very generous entertainment for the delectation of the brethren , and the toast of his health was received with great applause . Groom , P . M ., was ably assisted by the Stewards in carrying out all the arrangements , and the W . M . must feel highly gratified at the success of the meeting .

Master , in returning thanks for the toast of his health , said the large attendance and the excellent work done that evening showed that the brethren of the lodge took very great interest in Masonry , and he thought it would be a long time before the lodge would wish to change its number , by reason of other lodges dropping off . The number 441 was
a very luck y number , being a perfect square—the square of 21 . And it was not only a perfect square , but 21 was formed of two prime numbers , 3 and 7 , to both of which considerable Masonic interest was attached . Two candidates were proposed for initiation at the next lodge meeting .

M . then rose and gave the toast of "The M . W . G . M ., H . R . H . the Prince of Wales , and the rest of the Grand Officers , Present and Past . " Bro . G . Everett , G . Treas ., in reply , said it was with
considerable diffidence he rose to respond to the toast when he had a superior officer of the Craft present . He was very pleased to meet their popular Provincial Grand Master there ,. and thanked the brethren for the kindness they had been good enough to render him , and assistance when he was most in need of it . He was very p leased to be there that day , and he should carry away with him the pleasant recollections of his first visit to the lodge .
The Worshipful Master then gave the toast of "The R . W . P . G . M ., " remarking that all must remember the cordial manner Bro . Col . G . N . Money was received as Grand Master for the Province of Surrey . The Prov . Grand Master on rising , was the signal for a perfect ovation . He said : Bro . Everett has felt great diffidence in making his speech , but I feel my inability to make a speech at all . I can rule a lodge and I can guide a
lodge , but 1 cannot make a speech . 1 am obliged for your inviting me here to-day , and I am sure the work in the Surrey lodges is second to noneand I congratulate the l . P . M . for the able way in which he has done the work ; it certainly is a pattern for any one to follow . Bro . Cama , P . G . T ., P . P . S . G . W ., in responding to the call of the brethren , also replied . He was pleased to hear from Colonel Money that no province could beat the
Province of Surrey in working . He loved Freemasonry , for it knew no distinction in race , colour , or creed , lie regretted so many Grand Officers had passed away ; many had died in harness . He was delighted to be present , and as the father of the lodge joined with the Prov . Grand Master in good wishes for it . The toast of "The W . M . " was well given by the I . P . M ., who congratulated the Worshipful Master on having
attained the proud position , and trusted he would have a successful year of oflice . The Worshipful Master thanked the l . P . M . for his kind remarks , and said he was pleased to have been a founder of the lodge . From its commencement it had been nothing but pleasure to him , and he trusted to have thcassistance of the l . P . M . during his year of office . The Worshipful Master then nave the toast of " The
l . P . M ., " and pinned to his breast the jewel which had been voted by the brethren . The I . P . M ., in reply , thanked the brethren for this mark of their appreciation of his small services , and said he should ever remember the kind support he had received . The toast ol " The Visitors " was cordially received by the brethren . The W . M . said they were always pleased to see a good number of visitors , and thanked those who had
honoured them with their presence that day . Bro . Geo . Davis , P . M ., and others , responded . "The Past Masters , Treasurer , and Secretary" were toasted in high terms by the W . M ., and responded . The Secretary took occasion to remark that although thc Cyclist Lodge had not an immediate representative at the Jubilee Festival of the Benevolent Institution , yet many of thc brethren of the Cyclist Lodge had gone up as Stewards
from other lodges and lodges of instruction to which they belonged , and through their exertions a large sum had been brought into the Institution . Bro . Mason , P . M ., in reply , said he should represent the lodge at the Boys' Festival , and announced that Bro . I ) . P . Cama , P . M ., P . P . S . G . VV ., P . G . T ., had promised to place 90 guineas on his list . 'The toast of " The Officers" was ably putthe
, Worshipful Master congratulating himself on having such good officers , and he trusted they would give him their best assistance . The Officers replied , each pledging himself to emulate those worthy brethren before th ; m , and would do their best to keep up the prestige of the Cyclist Lodge .
