After the transaction of some ordinary business , Bro . R . H . K . Dyett , P . M ., Sec , referred to the case of Henry Robert Lambert D teres Biynes , a candidate recommended by the lodge to the Royal Masonic Institution lie Boys , and stated that since the election of the Boy in October last , his family had been confronted by the difficulty of getting him to England , as none of them were in a position to provide the

necessary funds ; that in a letter to Bro . Major J . G . Shanks , K . M ., of St . Anne ' s , near Bodmin , Cornwall , England , he ( Bro . Dyett ) had mentioned the circumstance , and Bro . Shanks had at once , in a most enthusiastic manner , opened a subscription list , and had already remitted to him by cheques £ 15 ios ., and on the 5 th inst ., had sent him a telegram announcing that he had been able to raise the amount to ^ , 20 , so that probably by next mail a further cheque for £ 4 ios . would arrive . He said that Bro . Shanks's action had been most kind , and was entirely unexpected , and merited some recognition from the lodge , as the boy on whose behalf it had been undertaken was really a . protege

thereof , whereupon , after expressing his high opinion of the kindness of Bro . Shanks , Bro . J . T . Thibou moved the following resolution , which : was duly seconded by Bro . Warneford , and carried unanimously : " Whereas this lodge has been informed by Wor . Bro . R . H . K . Dyett , Past Master , Secretary , of the great kindness of W . Bro . And that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Wor . Bro . Shanks , together with such additional copies as may be requisite for distribution amongst those brethren and others who so kindly supported him in the matter . " Bro . the Hon . A . W . Holmes k Court also

moved : " That as a further mark of appreciation W . Bro . Major Joseph George Shanks , K . M ., be elected an honorary member of this lodge , " which motion , having been duly seconded by Bro . R . H . K . Dyett , was carried unanimously . A communication from the Grand Lodge relative to the South African Masonic Relief Fund was read , and on the motion of Bro . Dyett , duly seconded by Bro . k Court , it was unanimously resolved : "That in response to the call of the M . W . Grand Master this lodge do open a subscription list for the benefit of the South African Masonic Relief Fund , and contribute thereto out of its funds .

as well as call on its members to subscribe individually . " Bro . Dyett then gave notice of motion , at the next regular meeting , for a vote of £ 2 2 s . in aid of the Fund . After the transaction of some other business , the lodge was opened in the Second Degree , when Bro . Robert Bryson was passed to the Degree of F . C , the lecture on the I ' . B . being delivered by the Secretary at the request of the W . M . The lodge was then closed in the Second , and resumed in the First Degree , and nothing further occurring , was finally closed , the brethren having passed a most harmonious and pleasant evening .

Plantagenet Lodge . No . 1454 . The regular monthly meeting of the Plantagenet Lodge , NJ . 1454 . was held in the Freemasons' Hall , Spencer-street , Albany , Western Australia , on Tuesday evening , the ioth ult . A more than ordinary event marked the occasion , and a large number of past and present members of the lodge were in attendance as well as numerous visitors . Lodge opened at S p . m ., the W . M ., Bro . A . E . Bailey , being in the chair , supported by the I . P . M ., Bro . A . Courtenay Evered , M . D ., and several Past Masters . After the formal business had been transacted , the W . M . rose , and in a few words addressed ' the assembled brethren . He said they had met together on that evening to unveil a

memorial ashlar to the memory of three of the Past Masters of the lodge who had passed on . The B . of G . P . of the lodge had , some six months previously , taken into consideration the best means of perpetuating the memory of the deceased brethren . The result had been the perfect ashlar •which would be unveiled by the worshipful brethren who had been requested to perform the solemn ceremony . Bro . Bailey concluded his remarks by calling attention to the symbologyof the perfect ashlar pointing to the mind and heart of man , purified from every baneful and malignant passion as the perfect ashlar which , as Freemasons , the brethren should hold as their ideal .

Bro . Bailey called on the appointed brethren to unveil the names of the deceased brethren . Bro . Dr . Rogers , P . M ., one of the founders of the Plantagenet Lodge , on rising to unveil the name of Bro . William Finlay , was overcome with strong emotions and the worthy brother , who has passed the allotted span of life himself , took some moments to recover . Dealing with the past history of the lodge . Bro . Dr . Rogers said , that looking back over 25 years he found many brother Craftsmen had predeceased him . Amongst the most prominent was Bto . Finlay , for without him it was doubtful whether

the Plantagenet Lodge would have been established . Over 26 years ago Bro . Finlay by some means found that there were seven Freemasons in the then hamlet of Albany , and he succeeded in bringing them together Masonicall y . From that time onward Bro . Finlay sacrificed much time in the interests of the lodge . He was the real founder of the lodge , and became its first W . M ., and assisted it with much pecuniary aid . Out ot the many Freemasons initiated by Bro . Finlay , there were , however , very few present that evening . He was the true founder of the lodge , and it was with feelings of deep and loving memories that he , Bro . Rogers , unveiled Bro . William Finlay ' s name on the ashlar .

Bro . Cuthbert McKenzie , P . M ., unveiled the names of the late Bro . Arthur Thompson , P . M ., to whom he paid high tribute , and who , he said ' , was a worthy Freemason , as a great deal of credit was due to him for the present satisfactory position of the Plantagenet Lodge . Our late brother was thorough in all the work he took upon himself in connection with Freemasonry . Bro . E . C . D . Keyser , P . M ., in the unavoidable absence of Bro . VV . H . Angove , P . M ., was requested to unveil the name of Bro . George H . Broomhall , P . M ., who , he said , was known to nearly all the brethren present , and had been held in the highest esteem by all , not only as a Freemason but as a man . Bro . Broomhall ' s work in the lodge was

performed in a very effectual manner , and his hand was ever open to assist the poor and distressed , for the lesson of universal beneficence and charity was engraved upon h is heart , and no stranger ever appealed to the late Bro . Broomhall in vain . The ashlar which is a ' square of polished marble , bears the following inscriptions : "In memory of William Finlay , died 1 SS 6 , aged 4 C 1 ; Arthur Thompson , died 1 S 91 , aged 34 ; George H . Broomhall , died 1 S 97 , aged 49 ; Worshipful Past Masters of Lodge 1 454 ( E . C . ) . " The ceremony having been completed , on the motion of Bro . Bailey , seconded by liro . Dr . A . C . Evered , a vote of thanks was passed to the Past Masters who had so ably performed the unveiling ceremony . The lodge was then closed .

ROYAL ARCH . Kilwinning Chapter , No . 135 ( S . C ) .

The above chapter held its regular monthly meeting in Freemasons' Hall , Yorkstreet , Sydney , on Monday , the 2 nd ult . The chapter was well attended , and opened by the M . E . Z ., Comp . Olsen , and his officirs . The usual business having been gone through , the Degree of Excellent Master was given by the Depute G . Superintendent ,

After the transaction of some other business , the lodge was opened in the Second Degree , when Bro . Robert Bryson was passed to the Degree of F . C , the lecture on the I ' . B . being delivered by the Secretary at the request of the W . M .
