The minutes of the last lodge having been confirmed , the first work to be done was the passing of Bro . Robinson , which was admirably performed by Bro . Mason , the working tools being explained by the I . P . M ,, and the charge delivered by the W . M ., who followed with his masterly exposition of the charge and tracing board in the Second
Degree . Since the last regularmeetingof the lodge , the wife of Bro . Wilton Jones has died , and the VV . M . moved , in a touching speech , a vote of condolence to Bro . Jones , which was seconded by the S . VV ., and carried . The W . M ., in the name of the officers and members of Lodge Prudence , presented to Bro . Woodhouse , P . G . J . W ., an elegant Past Master's jewel . In performing this pleasing duty , with his accustomed tact and ability , the W . M . lirst recapitulated
the circumstances which had led to the formation of the lodge . It had long been thought desirable by a number of the leading Masons in Leeds that the success of the Craft would be materially forwarded if there were in existence a lodge meeting on Saturday afternoon ; another idea of these brethren was that if such a lodge weie conducted on temperence principles many gentlemen would be secured to the ranks of Masonry , who otherwise might remain outside the
Order . There was no desire on the part of the promoters of the lodge to cast any slight on the existing lodges—it was felt that there was room for all . The success of the temperance principle in Masonry was borne witness to by the fact that since the consecration of 2069 lodges had been opened in various parts of the country as " temperance lodges . " The choice of the founders for the first W . M . wisely fell upon Bro . Woodhouse , who at that time occupied
the exalted position of chief magistrate for the large and populous borough of Leeds . He had indeed proved a towerof strength to Lodge Prudence . He first saw Masonic light in Lodge 521 ( Truth ) , of Huddersfield , in 1 S 61 , and in iSGShebecame VV . M . of that lodge . Increasing business calls caused him afterwards to retire from active Masonic work , but as the first W . M . of Prudence he showed that his Masonic faculties retained their pristine vigour , and ,
whether in the administrative or operative duties of his office , he gave pleasure and satisfaction tc all his brethren . Under his sway the lodge had wonderfully prospered . The goodwill " of the sister lodges was handsomely given , and at the present moment the most cordial and amicable relationship existed , a relationship it would be his pleasure and pride to preserve . Lodge Prudence was second to none in that province
considering the short time it had been in existence . Ihe fact that the R . W . P . G M . had instituted two of its members to high positions in the province showed that at head quarters the lodge was favourably regarded . He himself was Senior Prov . Grand Chaplain , and Bro . Woodhouse was Prov . Grand Junior Warden . He trusted that the
jewel would remind Bro . Woodhouse of the esteem and affection in which he was held by his brethren , that it would also remind him of thc two years he was Mayor of Leeds , in which office his wise and honourable principles endeared him to the whole town . In pinning the jewel on Bro . Woodhouse ' s breast he reminded him that there was
ano'her and a brighter jewel which he hoped he would ever retain—the love and friendship of his brethren and fellows . Might he retain in all its lustre that jewel until the Great Architect of the Universe was pleased to call him from these transitory scenes to that lodge above whose Grand Master was the Great Jehovah . VV . Hro . Smith , D . H G . M . West Yorks , expressed his pleasure at being present on so interesting an occasion .
He trusted Bro . Woodhouse would long be spared to wear the jewel . There was no wonder that Lodge Prudence was so successful , seeing that it had such an able and zealous staff of oflicers . Bro . Shaw ( Truth ) having also borne testimony to the regard that was entertained for Bro . Woodhouse in thc Huddersfield lodges , Bro . Woodhouse briefly and feelingly responded . He
expressed his great satisfaction that the Prudence Lodge had been so successful , and that her relations with the sister lodges were of so cordial a character . He had received many presents , but none would be more highly prized by himself and his family than thc Past Master's jewel he had just received . " Hearty good wishes" having been exchanged , the lodge was closed in due form , and the brethren adjourned to " High tea , " after which a very pleasant time was
spent . The inscription on thc iewel is as follows : "Pres ited by Lodue Prudence , No . 206 9 , to its first Master Bro . Edwin Woodhouse , P . M ., Provincial Grand Junior W irden of VVest Yorkshire . May , 1886 . " The jewel was of chased gold ; in tho centre of the ribbon the Arms of Leeds were finely cut and engraved , the upper bar bearing the word " Fountain , " ind the lower one " Prudence , No . 2069 , " in white enamel .

Altogether the day will be long remembered with pleasure by the Craft in Western Australia . The York Lodge is named in memory of the convention of Freemasons at York in A . L . 4926 , having also reference to the rite we practise ; it is the fifth lodge constituted in the colony , and works , like therest , under the United Grand Lodge of England .

The brethren assembled at about nine o'clock , and shortly afterwards the oflicers of the District Grand Lodge entered in procession to the strains of a march played by Bro . Fentum . commenced . Letters of apology were read from Bios . Middleton , President of the D . G . Board of General Purposes , and Masterof the Tuscan Lodge ; Allcot , D . G . S . D ., and Master of the Doric Lodge ; and others . The arrival of the District Grand Master designate was then announced , and , his patent having been received , a deputation ^ consisting ol Bros . Macgregor , Short , Morris , Lalcaca , Evans , Anderson , and Fisher was appointed to
receive him and introduce him to the Installing Master . The patent , under the signature of the Prince of Wales and seal of the United Grand Lodge of England , having been read , the ceremony of installation was very impressively Eerformed by Bro . Cornelius Thorne . Bro . Miller , having een obligated , invested , and placed in the chair , was duly saluted with grand honours . Handel ' s "Arm , Arm , ye Brave , " was then very effectively sung by Bro . Lanning .
Ihe ceremony having been completed , the newly , installed GRAND MASTEU , addressing the Installing Master , said : R . W . Sir . it affords me great pleasure as my first official act to nominate Bro . Kingsmill to be my deputy in this district . He is a brother well known to all Masons of every Constitution here , one who has taken the greatest interest in Masonry , and who is well versed in all our ancient laws and usages . I will therefore ask you to be good enough to invest him after the Secretary has read the oatent .
Bro . Kingsmill ' s patent as Deputy District Grand Master was then read , and he was obligated , invested with due ceremony , placed in his chair of office , and duly saluted with grand honours . The District Grand Master then confirmed the appointment of officers made by him in January when acting as Deputy District Grand Master in charge , and the officers were duly saluted . The Masonic hymn , "Hail , Masonry divine , " was then sung , the solo being rendered by Bro . Neuboursr .

The minutes of the last lodge having been confirmed , the first work to be done was the passing of Bro . Robinson , which was admirably performed by Bro . Mason , the working tools being explained by the I . P . M ,, and the charge delivered by the W . M ., who followed with his masterly exposition of the charge and tracing board in the Second
Degree . Since the last regularmeetingof the lodge , the wife of Bro . Wilton Jones has died , and the VV . M . moved , in a touching speech , a vote of condolence to Bro . Jones , which was seconded by the S . VV ., and carried . The W . M ., in the name of the officers and members of Lodge Prudence , presented to Bro . Woodhouse , P . G . J . W ., an elegant Past Master's jewel . In performing this pleasing duty , with his accustomed tact and ability , the W . M . lirst recapitulated
the circumstances which had led to the formation of the lodge . It had long been thought desirable by a number of the leading Masons in Leeds that the success of the Craft would be materially forwarded if there were in existence a lodge meeting on Saturday afternoon ; another idea of these brethren was that if such a lodge weie conducted on temperence principles many gentlemen would be secured to the ranks of Masonry , who otherwise might remain outside the
Order . There was no desire on the part of the promoters of the lodge to cast any slight on the existing lodges—it was felt that there was room for all . The success of the temperance principle in Masonry was borne witness to by the fact that since the consecration of 2069 lodges had been opened in various parts of the country as " temperance lodges . " The choice of the founders for the first W . M . wisely fell upon Bro . Woodhouse , who at that time occupied
the exalted position of chief magistrate for the large and populous borough of Leeds . He had indeed proved a towerof strength to Lodge Prudence . He first saw Masonic light in Lodge 521 ( Truth ) , of Huddersfield , in 1 S 61 , and in iSGShebecame VV . M . of that lodge . Increasing business calls caused him afterwards to retire from active Masonic work , but as the first W . M . of Prudence he showed that his Masonic faculties retained their pristine vigour , and ,
whether in the administrative or operative duties of his office , he gave pleasure and satisfaction tc all his brethren . Under his sway the lodge had wonderfully prospered . The goodwill " of the sister lodges was handsomely given , and at the present moment the most cordial and amicable relationship existed , a relationship it would be his pleasure and pride to preserve . Lodge Prudence was second to none in that province
considering the short time it had been in existence . Ihe fact that the R . W . P . G M . had instituted two of its members to high positions in the province showed that at head quarters the lodge was favourably regarded . He himself was Senior Prov . Grand Chaplain , and Bro . Woodhouse was Prov . Grand Junior Warden . He trusted that the
jewel would remind Bro . Woodhouse of the esteem and affection in which he was held by his brethren , that it would also remind him of thc two years he was Mayor of Leeds , in which office his wise and honourable principles endeared him to the whole town . In pinning the jewel on Bro . Woodhouse ' s breast he reminded him that there was
ano'her and a brighter jewel which he hoped he would ever retain—the love and friendship of his brethren and fellows . Might he retain in all its lustre that jewel until the Great Architect of the Universe was pleased to call him from these transitory scenes to that lodge above whose Grand Master was the Great Jehovah . VV . Hro . Smith , D . H G . M . West Yorks , expressed his pleasure at being present on so interesting an occasion .
He trusted Bro . Woodhouse would long be spared to wear the jewel . There was no wonder that Lodge Prudence was so successful , seeing that it had such an able and zealous staff of oflicers . Bro . Shaw ( Truth ) having also borne testimony to the regard that was entertained for Bro . Woodhouse in thc Huddersfield lodges , Bro . Woodhouse briefly and feelingly responded . He
expressed his great satisfaction that the Prudence Lodge had been so successful , and that her relations with the sister lodges were of so cordial a character . He had received many presents , but none would be more highly prized by himself and his family than thc Past Master's jewel he had just received . " Hearty good wishes" having been exchanged , the lodge was closed in due form , and the brethren adjourned to " High tea , " after which a very pleasant time was
spent . The inscription on thc iewel is as follows : "Pres ited by Lodue Prudence , No . 206 9 , to its first Master Bro . Edwin Woodhouse , P . M ., Provincial Grand Junior W irden of VVest Yorkshire . May , 1886 . " The jewel was of chased gold ; in tho centre of the ribbon the Arms of Leeds were finely cut and engraved , the upper bar bearing the word " Fountain , " ind the lower one " Prudence , No . 2069 , " in white enamel .

D ., and Master of the Doric Lodge ; and others . The arrival of the District Grand Master designate was then announced , and , his patent having been received , a deputation ^ consisting ol Bros . Macgregor , Short , Morris , Lalcaca , Evans , Anderson , and Fisher was appointed to
receive him and introduce him to the Installing Master . The patent , under the signature of the Prince of Wales and seal of the United Grand Lodge of England , having been read , the ceremony of installation was very impressively Eerformed by Bro . Cornelius Thorne . Bro . Miller , having een obligated , invested , and placed in the chair , was duly saluted with grand honours . Handel ' s "Arm , Arm , ye Brave , " was then very effectively sung by Bro . Lanning .
Ihe ceremony having been completed , the newly , installed GRAND MASTEU , addressing the Installing Master , said : R . W . Sir . it affords me great pleasure as my first official act to nominate Bro . Kingsmill to be my deputy in this district . He is a brother well known to all Masons of every Constitution here , one who has taken the greatest interest in Masonry , and who is well versed in all our ancient laws and usages . I will therefore ask you to be good enough to invest him after the Secretary has read the oatent .
Bro . Kingsmill ' s patent as Deputy District Grand Master was then read , and he was obligated , invested with due ceremony , placed in his chair of office , and duly saluted with grand honours . The District Grand Master then confirmed the appointment of officers made by him in January when acting as Deputy District Grand Master in charge , and the officers were duly saluted . The Masonic hymn , "Hail , Masonry divine , " was then sung , the solo being rendered by Bro . Neuboursr .
