ROYAL MASONIC INSTITUTION FOR BOYS . ELECTION OF SECRETARY . To THE PATRONS , VICE-PATRONS , VICE-PRESIDENTS , AND LIFE-GOVERNORS . Evershot , Dorchester , 14 th July , 1 S 90 . MY LORDS , LADIES , AND BRETHREN , Whilst regretting that our efforts have not been crowned with success , I desire on behalf of myself and my Committee to return our most sincere thanks to those who have so kindl y given me their support , and to express my heartfelt gratitude to the many brethren—too numerous to write to individually as I could wish—who have so warmly interested themselves on my behalf ; and we trust that our friends will consider the large number of votes recorded for me , in spite of all adverse circumstances , as an ample justification of our action in going : to the poll . The increase in the circle of my Masonic friends and the truly Masonic courtesy and kindness I have met with in every direction—even amongst my opponents and their supporters—will be no inconsiderable compensation for my labours and disappointment . In conclusion I would most earnestly ask my friends to support to the utmost of their power the successful candidate , Bro . MCLEOD , in the uphill task which lies before him to secure the future welfare of the Institution . I am , Yours faithfully and fraternally , S . R . BASKETT .
