The Weak Man.

THE WEAK MAN .

The weak man in all organisations is first , the fool , the empty-headed fellow who stares at you in blank amazement svhen you speak of the intellectual part of the Order , True , he should never be initiated ; but there is as yet no law compelling every fool to carry a sign , or to have him marked and stamped as the cattle on the western ranches .

The other weak man is the supercilious j he who sneers at the Order , at the painstaking officers and members , and looks upon our Order as he does upon his ward association or his fishing or bosvling clubs and tells you he belongs to 18 Orders , all just like this . He vvould much rather begin on the top , instead of

working upward . This fellow usually wears the biggest emblem , and boasts of what he can do but never does . Another weak man is the ambitious soul , who , vvhen he has been " accepted , " " makes up his mind to run the lodge . Now this is a laudable ambition , but it should always be deeply impressed upon the

would-be candidate that , like all other offices of honour or emolument , it takes votes to be elected , and every member has a right to cast a vote ; but this weak man of the Order is not satisfied to wait , or to study the best interests of the Order , or the feelings of his friend .

He simply wants to be elected , and if he is not elected , he becomes angry and leaves the Order in a huff , with a bitter feeling of disappointed ambition , and a still more bitter expression against his lodge and against the Order in general . It cannot be denied that there are other weak men . The profane , vvho do violence to every instinct of a

gentleman ; the intemperate , the vicious ; then there is the borrower , he who borrows never intending to pay for what he has . In fact , every one who is a weak man in society is a weak man in our Order , and such should oui

be tabooed , should never be permitted to enter sacred portals . It behoves our friends vvho are selected as an investigating Committee to be particularly careful to allow none to pass , save those who have been thoroughly scrutinised and found worthy . — Jersey Knight .
