The report on the provincial visitation showed that the lodges in the province , numbering 20 , were all in a satisfactory state .

In response to a communication from Lodge St . Andrew ' s , No . 544 , Coatbridge , it was resolved to ask Grand Lodge to give an opportunity of comparing the rolls of membership in the lodges of the province with that of the registered membership in Grand Lodge . A Committee , comprising the provincial officebearers and the R . W . M . ' s , or their deputies , of all the

lodges in the province—Bro . Capt . R . K . Stewart convener—was appointed , with full powers to take what action they consider will best aid the grand bazaar to be held next year in Edinburgh . The SECRETARY reported on the attendance at the P . G . Lodge meetings since last annual meeting—that 11 of the 16 office-bearers had attended all the

KINGSTON . Royal Lodge ( No . 207 ) . —At the regular meeting of this lodge on the 2 nd ult ., the brethren tendered fraternal welcome to Bro . X . Leon , P . M ., on his return from his holiday trip to Europe and the United States . Among the brethren present were many Officers of the District Grand Lodge of Jamaica and of the Provincial

Grand Lodge of Scotland , also Masters ancl Past Masters of several lodges in the province . The minutes having been confirmed , the Committee appointed at the last ordinary meeting came to the pedestal , and through their Chairman , Bro . J . M . Simpson , reported that they were prepared with an address , which the VV . M . directed them to present . The Secretary then read the address as follows :

BRO . SIR DANIEL GOOCH , BART . j Bro . Sir Daniel Gooch , Bart ., whose death , which \ had been expected for some time past , took p lace at i Clewer Park , near Windsor , on Tuesday , the 15 th inst . ] had been a member of our Society for close on 40 years . j He was initiated in the St . George ' s Lodge , No . , ) Exeter , on the 14 th February , 1850 . In the following

May he joined the Royal Sussex Lodge of Emulation , j No . 355—then No . 453—Swindon , and two years later was elected and installed its W . M . In 1853 he became i principal founder and first Master of the Lansdowne Lodge of Unity , No . 909—now No . 626—Chippenham , and in 1855 ne joined the Britannic Lodge , No . 3

8--now No . 33—and was very speedily elected to its chair . At the installation of Bro . Lord Methuen as Provincial j Grand Master of Wiltshire in 1853 bis lordship singled ' out Bro . Daniel Gooch for the very important post of ; Deputy Provincial Grand Master , and in this capacity ;

he continued to act until the year 1868 , when the late Earl 1 of Zetland , who two years previously had invested him as G . S . B . of England , was pleased to confer upon him the still more important office of Provincial Grand Master of Berks and Bucks . On the news of

this well-deserved honour being bestowed upon him , their Deputy Prov . G . Master , becoming known among his Wiltshire brethren , the latter held conference together , and determined to present Bro . Sir D . Gooch with a testimonial in recognition of the important

services he had rendered to the province during his 15 years' tenure of the post of Deputy , and also of t ' genial and kindly relations which during the whole 0 that time had existed between him and the lod ges an ^ brethren generally and particularly . It was ultimately resolved that the testimonial should take the form of a

complete suit of clothing as Provincial Grand Master , and on the 31 st March , 1869 , the presentation was mati in open Provincial Grand Lodge , at Chi ppenham * 1 Bro . Lord Methuen , who spoke in the hig hest and rnos fro

laudatory terms of the assistance he had received " Bro . Sir D ., Gooch , to whom , indeed , he ascribed tmgreat prosperity which had attended the Province ^ Wiltshire during the years he had presided over it < ¦ its Grand Master . His lordshiD added , however , - " < &

This being officers' night the principal officers of the mother lodge took their respective chairs , and the lodge was opened with the usual formalities . The ceremony of initiation was rehearsed in a careful manner . Bro . Barth offered himself as a candidate for passing , and was examined and entrusted . The lodge was opened in the Second Degree , and the ceremony rehearsed . The lodge was closed in the

Second Degree . Bro . VV . F . Bates was elected a joining member . Bro . Perry was elected W . M . for the next meeting . Bros . Harris , P . M ., J . Collings , P . M ., and F . Craggs were elected Treasurer , Preceptor , and Secretary respectively for the ensuing year , and Bros . Skar , Perry , and Buxton were elected Auditors . After " Hearty good wishes , " the lodge was closed .

The report on the provincial visitation showed that the lodges in the province , numbering 20 , were all in a satisfactory state .

In response to a communication from Lodge St . Andrew ' s , No . 544 , Coatbridge , it was resolved to ask Grand Lodge to give an opportunity of comparing the rolls of membership in the lodges of the province with that of the registered membership in Grand Lodge . A Committee , comprising the provincial officebearers and the R . W . M . ' s , or their deputies , of all the

lodges in the province—Bro . Capt . R . K . Stewart convener—was appointed , with full powers to take what action they consider will best aid the grand bazaar to be held next year in Edinburgh . The SECRETARY reported on the attendance at the P . G . Lodge meetings since last annual meeting—that 11 of the 16 office-bearers had attended all the

M ., on his return from his holiday trip to Europe and the United States . Among the brethren present were many Officers of the District Grand Lodge of Jamaica and of the Provincial

Grand Lodge of Scotland , also Masters ancl Past Masters of several lodges in the province . The minutes having been confirmed , the Committee appointed at the last ordinary meeting came to the pedestal , and through their Chairman , Bro . J . M . BRO . SIR DANIEL GOOCH , BART . j Bro . Sir Daniel Gooch , Bart ., whose death , which \ had been expected for some time past , took p lace at i Clewer Park , near Windsor , on Tuesday , the 15 th inst . ] had been a member of our Society for close on 40 years . j He was initiated in the St . George ' s Lodge , No . , ) Exeter , on the 14 th February , 1850 . In the following

May he joined the Royal Sussex Lodge of Emulation , j No . 355—then No . 453—Swindon , and two years later was elected and installed its W . M . In 1853 he became i principal founder and first Master of the Lansdowne Lodge of Unity , No . 909—now No . 626—Chippenham , and in 1855 ne joined the Britannic Lodge , No . 3

8--now No . 33—and was very speedily elected to its chair . At the installation of Bro . Lord Methuen as Provincial j Grand Master of Wiltshire in 1853 bis lordship singled ' out Bro . Daniel Gooch for the very important post of ; Deputy Provincial Grand Master , and in this capacity ;

he continued to act until the year 1868 , when the late Earl 1 of Zetland , who two years previously had invested him as G . S . B . of England , was pleased to confer upon him the still more important office of Provincial Grand Master of Berks and Bucks . On the news of

this well-deserved honour being bestowed upon him , their Deputy Prov . G . Master , becoming known among his Wiltshire brethren , the latter held conference together , and determined to present Bro . Sir D . Gooch with a testimonial in recognition of the important

services he had rendered to the province during his 15 years' tenure of the post of Deputy , and also of t ' genial and kindly relations which during the whole 0 that time had existed between him and the lod ges an ^ brethren generally and particularly . It was ultimately resolved that the testimonial should take the form of a

complete suit of clothing as Provincial Grand Master , and on the 31 st March , 1869 , the presentation was mati in open Provincial Grand Lodge , at Chi ppenham * 1 Bro . Lord Methuen , who spoke in the hig hest and rnos fro

laudatory terms of the assistance he had received " Bro . Sir D ., Gooch , to whom , indeed , he ascribed tmgreat prosperity which had attended the Province ^ Wiltshire during the years he had presided over it < ¦ its Grand Master . His lordshiD added , however , - " < &
