The officers were then invested by the W . M . as follows :

Bros . W . H . Handover , S . VV . ; S . Ransom , J . VV . ; S . H . Parkhouse , P . M ., Treas . ; R . C . Green , P . M ., Sec ; H . Holmes , P . M ., P . G . D . Herts , S . D . ; S . K . The Secretary read a letter from Bro . Ransom , thanking thelodge for the vote of

sympathy passed at the previous meeting . The Secretary announced the death of the wife of Bro . Rider . Bto . Parkhouse proposed , and Bro . Ward seconded , that a vote of condolence should be passed and sent to him , which was carried unanimously . The Secretary read several letters Irom members and visiting brethren , expressing regret at their inability to attend , notably one from our well known and esteemed Bro . F . L . Chandler , P . M ., P . P . G . P . Middlx . Great regret was expressed at our brother ' s absence from illness . The Iodge was then closed .

After the well-served banquet had been discussed by the brethren , the usual loyal toasts— "The Queen and the Craft , " "H . R . H . the Prince of Wales , the M . W . G . M . " —were warmly responded to . Then followed thetoastof "The Pro G . M ., the Dip . G , M ., and the rest of the Grand Officers , Present and Past . " A madrigal , " Nymphs and Shepherds , " was given . by the Crichton Part Singers—Bro . F . King , and Messrs . Haydn Grover , Hugh Cochrane , and Herbert Dyer .

After which , Bro . D . P . Cama , P . M ., P . G . Treas ., responded . He stated how attached he was to the lodge , regretted that precarious health prevented him from visiting the brethren as often as he could wish , congratulated the lodge on its position and progress , and in a few kind words impressed upon the initiate the duties he had undertaken to fulfil , and urged him to especially cultivate the clvefest of all Masomc virtues—Charity . Our esteemed Bro . Cam a has set a noble example by his open-handed munificent generosity .

The important toast of the evening then followed , " The W . M ., " proposed by the I . P . M ., who stated that he ; had known him personally for upwards of 20 years , and from the experience he had gained in ruling a lodge previously the brethren of the Earl of Carnarvon might rest assured that the affairs of the lodge would be well conducted . Madame Louise Pender gave a song , " The Swallows . " The W . M . replied , thanking the brethren for the warm reception they had accorded him ; he t'usted for their kind support during his year of office , and promised to carrv

out the duties of the chair to the best of his ability . He gavi then the toast of " The LP . M ., " and saidjit was a pleasing duty to him to affix the Past Master ' s je * el awarded by the lodge on the breast of W . Bro . French , LP . M . This was done amid the great applause of those present . Song , " My Pretty Jane , " by Mr . Hadyn Grover . The I . P . M . responded in a few well-chosen words . Song , " She Wandered down the Mountain Side , " by Miss Daisy Dennis , then followid a humorous sketch , " Mrs Clapham Rhode ' s Soiree Musicale , " by Bro . C .

Barclay Gammon . The toast of "The Visitors" was heartily received . Duet , "Excelsior , " by Mr . H . Dyer and Mr . Hugh Cochrane . Several distinguished brethren responded . We would especially notice the interesting fact that Bro . S . K . R . Cama , S . W . 2005 , also replied . He alluded to his venerable uncle , the P . G . Treasurer , and said that the great aim in his Masonic life had been , and ever would be , to follow in the footsteps of his esteemed relative , particularly in the virtue of Charity .

The W . M . then gave the toast of "The Treasurer and Secretary , " coupling with their names the Masonic Charities . The W . M . spoke most warmly and feelingly on the eminent services rendered by Bros . Parkhouse and Green during the past years , and how proud he was they would render their valuable se > vices to him during the current year . As to the Masonic Chanties , the liberality of the Carnarvon Lodge was well-known . He might mention that Bro . D . P . Cama , P . M ., P . G . T ., with his usual generosity , had promised ten ' guineas for the list he intended to take up for the Girls' School , and that he as W . M . intended to add ten guineas on his own account ; he confidently relied

upon the assistance of his brethren . Humorous sketch , " Musical Miseries , " by Bro . C . B . Gammon . The Treasurer and Secretary briefly responded . The toasts of "The Past Masters" and " The Officers " at this late hour of the evening were submitted in a few words , receiving due recognition by the brethren and were acknowledged . Then a quartette , "Sleep , Gentle Lady , " by the Crichton Part Singers . The Tyler ' s toast brought the brilliant evening to a close . The musical arrangements were ably carried out by Bro . Fredk . King .

Fellowship Lodge , No . 2535 . The phenomenal success of this lodge is being well maintained under the able Mastership of Bro . Wm . Thomas , and was evinced at a regular meeting held at the Frascati Restaurant , on the 7 th inst . The members present included Bros . Wm . Thomas , VV . M . ; E . L . Valeriani , P . G . S . B ., I . P . M . ; B . Carter , J . W . ; J . Welford , P . M ., Treas . ; J . Stephens , P . D . G . D . C , Sec . ; W . H . Making , S . D . ; J . Hutton Haylor , J . D . ; S . Hussey , D . C . ; W . H . Rudderforth , I . G . ; M . S . Rubinstein , Stwd . ; B .

Grilhn , P . M . ; C Dearing , P . P . G . Supt . of Works ; and many others . Visitors : Bros . H . Finch , 1260 ; Arthur W . Briggs , 1615 ; H . Williamson , 172 ; J . H . Finch , " 73 ; J . Mansfield , 75 s ; A . H . Thomson , 16 S 9 ; E . W . Miller , 753 ; P . Herbage , 2005 ; George Roberts , 2021 ; Wm . Miller , 753 ; Alwyn [ Child , 1563 ; J . Stait , . I . P . M . 1743 ; S . Lucas . J . W . 2395 ; Wm . H . Guy , 1314 ; C W . Mann , 2150 ; J . Watts , I . P . M . 179 ; E . W . Hart , F . Crocker , 2698 ; G . W . Twyford , 2361 ; W . Yea , C . H . Worley , 2271 ; E . H . Watts , 179 ; W . W . Lee , P . M . ; and others .

The opening of the Iodge was followed by the confirmation of the minutes . Bro . Wm . Rippon was raised to the Third Degree , and Bros . A . Friedborig and A . F . Bettinson passed to the Degree of F . C . Messrs . H . A . Bruno , J . D . Hooper , and P . S . Schuler ( son of a respected member of the lodge ) were then impressively initiated . The whole of the three Degrees were carried out by the W . M . in an able manner that

marked him as an experienced exponent of the ritual . The death of Bro . Shannaw was formally announced , and resolutions of condolence with the relatives unanimously passed . A Masonic ball has been one of the successful features of this lodge each winter , and it was resolved that the present season should be no exception to that rule , Bro . W . H . Bailey , P . G . Treas ., again being asked to be President . Propositions were received , and lodge was closed .

The banquet , as usual , proved to be of the finest description , and , being well served , was heartily enjoyed . In giving "The Grand Officers" as one of the principal toasts afterwards , the W . M . pointed with justifiable pride to the fact that the lodge possessed fourG . Officers , although it had been established less than four years . Bro . J . Stephens , P . D . G . D . C , replied , and also referred to the record made by the Fellowship Lodge , which possessed two Grand Treasurers—one being a Sheriff of the City of London . A few months ago the Pro Grand Master was visited with a sad calamity , but they rejoiced to hear he was now on the road to a restoration of health .

Bro . E . Valeriani , P . G . S . B ., I . P . M ., proposed "The Health of the W . M ., " and said he would not make a long speech in doing so , as he could not influence their good feelings towards him . They all knew Bro . Wm . Thomas , and liked him , but as their W . M . they had learnt to love him as their ruler . They would unite in wishing him a happy and prosperous year . Bro . VVm . Thomas , W . M ., said that in presiding over a lodge of representative men such as this the position of the W . M . must be a very proud one indeed . He had

presided over one or two others , but had never felt prouder . There was a certain part of the ritual in another Order which told them that to reign over the hearts and iff actions of men was much better than to reign over their lives and destinies . He enjoyed the affection and regard of every brother , and so he was doubly proud to preside . He felt sure that other Masters who had preceded him and those coming on would have the same fidelity and loyalty as they had accorded to him . He was obliged to them for the support and attention given him both in the lodge where he had done the Three

Degrees and at the banquet table . He had only to express a wish that certain things should be done and all supported him . After his work that night he would not occupy their time , but thank them very sincerely , heartily , and cordially for the kind sentiments expressed by the LP . M . and endorsed by them all . Before he sat down he would give them " The Initiates , " a toast closely affecting the prosperity of the lodge . Bro . II . A . Biuno , in response , said this was a grand moment for him in replying first for the toast . Until he came amongst them he had very false ideas of Freemasonry , but after what had taken place , and the grand initiation service they had gone through

— the solemnity of which they all appreciated—he had been imbued with ideas he had never before comprehended . He had never had a brother , and , therefore , never knew until that night what the word "brother" really meant . He felt at home at once , for all greeted him as a brother , and he was proud of it . He only hoped , with God ' s blessing , to be worthy of their Society and their comradeship , and it would be his bounden duty to carry forward the grand principles inculcated , and be a worthy member of their fellowship and the Fellowship Lodge . Bros . Hooper and Schuler also briefly replied . ' .

"The Visitors" was given with cordiality and geniality by Bro . Stephens , P . M ., Sec , who observed that laws were made , altered , and abandoned , but the law of hospitality would remain always . The law of hospitality was engraven upon the hearts of all Masons . No lodge was more heaity in its welceme to visitors than theirs , and amongst the large number present were 12 invited by Bro . Schuler to witness the initiation ot his son .

Bros . S . Lucas , P . M . ; Watts , P . M . ; Crocker , and Stait , acknowledged the toast . The remaining toasts were duly honoured , Bro . Edmund , P . " M ., concluding the proceedings with the T y ler ' s toast . Bro . Arthur VV . Briggs had compiled an excellent programme of music , and was ably assisted by Misses Sexton and Venning , and Bros . Emlyn , Jones , and Barry Lindon .

Ravensworth Lodge , No . 2674 . The lirst annual meeting and festival of this lodge was held at the Industry Masonic Hall , Gateshead , on Friday , the i ith inst . Owing to the unavoidable absence of Bro . M . Corbitt , P . M ., P . P . S . G . D ., W . M ., the chair was occupied by Bro . Alfred Simpson , I . P . M ., who installed the W . M . elect , Bro . Thomas R . Jobson , P . M ., P . P . G . S . B . Northumberland , S . W ., into the chair of King Solomon in a very admirable m inner .

The officers were then invested by the W . M . as follows :

Craft Masonry.

The W . M . then gave the toast of "The Treasurer and Secretary , " coupling with their names the Masonic Charities . The W . M . spoke most warmly and feelingly on the eminent services rendered by Bros .
