A VISIT TO THE BOYS' SCHOOL . To the Editor of the "Freemason . " Dear Sir and Brother , — I have seen the report of the meeting of the Boys ' School Committee in the Evening News of the nth inst ., and in the Freemason of last Saturday . I beg to say

that I , the undersigned , am the writer of thc letter in question . I reiterate my original statement , every word of which is absolutely true and wliich has been endorsed by R . W . Bro . Col . Stewart , District Grand Master of the Punjab , in Bro . Binckes ' s presence , and a Past Grand Officer .

Several passages ( equally true ) of the original letter were omitted , lest injury might be done to the prestige of the School in public opinion . Thc sole object of my letter was an honest endeavour to prevent a repetition of the unseemly treatment which visitors to the Institution may be subjected to , and to

ameliorate the social regime with regard to the lads themselves . We visited the School in a regular way , with a card from Bro . Binckes mentioning the rank of Col . Stewart . When Dr . Morris talks of our being only " ten minutes at thc School , " which I nowhere alleged , he admits the whole

gravamen of our complaint , which is this , that owing to the brusqueness of our reception and the cynical curtness of his remarks we were obliged to abridge our visit , and had to wait three-quartersof an hour at the railway station . I wrote originally under the initials S . X ., because I did not wish to make what Col . Stewart and I considered a

public matter too much of a private grievance , and also because wc felt satisfied that the Committee of management and Bro . Binckes as Secretary , would trouble themselves far more about facts affecting the interests of the institution than the names of individual visitors . The original letter is at the service of the Committee or of Dr .

IHE GRAND LODGE BENEVOLENT FUNDS . To the Editor of the "Freemason . " Dear Sir and Brother , — Bros . Clabon and James Stevens have both brought before Grand Lodge their ideas respecting the matter and manner of dispensing thc benevolent funds of the Craft , and no doubt their views will be very carefully considered

by those having thc disposal of those funds . Upon that matter I am not going to enter , but to point out that with a little more discretion the funds already subscribed should be ample to meet thc temporary needs of distressed brethren . I would suggest that more enquiries should be made as to the causes of the applicant ' s distress , whether by his own fault or by unforseen calamities , the latter receiving more consideration that the former , though-
