disposition , and claimed the support of the brethren in his Stewardship at the next festival of that Institution . While thanking the lodge for the donation which it had placed on his list , he appealed to each individual brother to become a subscriber to the funds of that Institution , and to maintain the Charitable reputation which the Leopold Lodge enjoyed .

Bro . Edmund J . Morgan , P . M ., replyingto the toast , referred to the three Institutions , viz .: the Boys' and the Girls' Schools , and the Royal Masonic Benevolent Institution , which were the ornaments of the Craft , and which he was ' glad to find were so evenly supported . While they had that nig ht been celebrating the auspicious occasion of their installation ceremony , they should not forget their

unfortunate brethren , their widows , and offspring , but do all in their power to alleviate the genuine distress existing . The VV . M . having thrown in his lot with the Old People's Institution , no words were necessary to commend that Charity to their generous support . From 15 annuities granted in 1 S 43 , the Institution had made such rapid strides , that at the last election the number of annuitants had

increased to 193 males and 240 females , involving an annual expenditure of over ^ 15 , , London taking a third of the amount , the remainder going to the provinces , the Channel Islands , and the Colonies , thus forcibly demonstrating the universality of the science . Easy means of becoming Life Subscribers or Life Governors of the R . M . B . l . were afforded , by the new association just started in connection with the

Leopold Lodge of Instruction , and it was to be hoped that every member would join the Charitable Association . The Leopold Lodge , Bro . Morgan urged , had an especial interest in the Royal Masonic Benevolent Institution , having one of its Past Masters and founders on the funds of that Institution . Days of adversity might fall upon any one present—God forbid that they ever should . If , however ,

any one of them had to make an appeal to the Koyal Masonic Benevolent Institution , might it be said of each one of them that in the day of his prosperity and opportunity he had done what he could , and might the appeal not be in vain . In conclusion , he commended to the brethren those

significant and never-to-be-forgotten words of the Apostle Paul : "And now abideth Faith , Hope , Charity , these three , but the greatest of these is Charity , " and earnestly entreated the brethren of the Leopold Lodge to strengthen the hands of their W . M ., sending him up to the festivd with the record Steward ' s List .

In feeling terms the toast of " The Past Masters of the Lodge" was submitted , the W . M . claiming their valued assistance which had been so ungrudingly given in past years . Able responses were nude by Bros . C . W . Kent , father of the lodge ; J . T . Dormer , W . Carey , Sec ; and T . Duffield , each promising to lighten the task of their

newlyinstalled W . M . by doing all theyjcould to assist him during his Mastership . Last , but not least , followed " The Officers , " of whom the W . M . was justly proud as zealous andjworthy brethren , who would give a good account of themselves during his year of office . % Bros . Watts , S . W . ; Meadows , J . W . ; Bartlett , P . M ., Treas . ; and Morris , Stwd ., suitably responded . The proceedings were brought to a close by the Tyler ' s

toast . A highly entertaining musical programme was provided by the W . M . for the brethren , which was much appreciated , the artistes being Mrs . Evan Owen , Miss Maggie lonesand sisters , Messrs . Evan Owen , J . Owen , and J . Williams , and Bro . H . Mervyn Ward . Bro . W . F . Packer , P . M ., in his usually excellent manner acted as accompanist , Bro . Edmund J . Morgan , P . M ., | having charge of the arrangements .

Lodge of Perseverance ( No . 1743 ) . —A regular meeting of this lodge was held at Anderton ' s Hotel , on Saturday , the 13 th inst ., Bro . John Stait , W . M ., in the chair . After the usual business was concluded , Bro . C . F . Ferry , P . M ., Sec , delivered a lecture , illustrated with large water-colour drawings and diagrams , upon Stonehenge , one of the earliest examples of operative Masonry

in Britain , and its relation to ancient mysteries similar to those of Freemasonry in the present day . The lecturer described its geometrical ground plan , its appearance when in a perfect state , and in its now ruinous condition ; its probable astronomical and religious uses , and finally its similarity in five points to our present proceedings , this

latter part being , of course , entirely esoteric . 'At the conclusion the brethren unanirrously passed him a cordial vote of thanks for an in ' ellectual evening . The visitors present were : Bros . E . C Talbot , VV . M . 65 ; John Roberts , P . M . " 5 ! J-R . Johnson , P . M ., Sec . 2005 ; E . Kearney , P . M . ' 54 '» T . VV . Allsop , SS ; VV . J . Barnes , 1227 ; and J . Walton , 1366 .
