Comp . Col . Shadwell H . Clerke said it was very kind of the M . E . Z . to refer to his services in the way he had done . It seemed but Ihe other day that he had installed Comp . Montague Guest as its First Principal , and now he had the pleasure of installing his successor . He was sure the chapter would have a successful future . The M . E . Z . next proposed "The Health of the Visitors . "

No lodge or chapter was more pleased than the Montague Guest to entertain their friends . They had present a very distinguished visitor from the other side of the ocean , and he trusted he would take back with him a favourable opinion of English Masonry ; they had also present many other companions , who were too well known to need any words of introduction or commendation from him .

Comp . Tilton , D . G . M . of the Distu ' ct of New York , responded . The next toast was that of " The Charities , " and the M . E . Z . referred in very complimentary terms to the interest taken in the Charities by Comp . Frank Richardson , who was one of the most active and valued members of the Girls' Institution .

Comp . Frank Richardson , in reply , said it was a subject on which he could dilate for an hour . He referred to the recent Festival of the Benevolent Institution , remarking that it was highly creditable to the Craft that such a large sum should , in these bad times , be collected . The Boys ' School was an admirable Institution , but it was with the Gir s' School he was more intimately associated , and in

which he felt the deepest interest . They could not make them Masons , but they did their best to make them fitted for the battle of life . They were not overworked , but they were well worked , and they must all feel the livliest satisfaction that the Educational Statistics showed that the Girls' School was at the top of all similar Institutions in England , —these returns proved that the money subscribed

by the Craft was well applied , and he trusted the coming Festival of the Girls' School would prove as good as that of the Royal Masonic Benevolent Institution . The toast of " The Officers , " responded to by Comps . Slyman and Henwood , brought a very ploasant and

successful meeting to a close . VVe should mention that the proceedings were enlivened by some excellent singing , the artistes being Signor Maestro Sala , Signor Monori Rocca ( late of Covent Garden Italian Opera ) , and 2 English artistes from the Criterion Concert .

MASONIC WEEK AT KIDDERMINSTER .

Tin * collection of Masonic medals , emblems , books , and other objects connected with the Craft , now tastefully arranged in thc Masonic Hall for the inspection of the brethren , is , perhaps , one of the most remarkable extant . I am told that there are only three othcr such collections in existence . But this differs from them in beina" the work of

a single enthusiast , in an incredibly short space of time . Bro . " George Taylor , who stands very noar the top of the Masonic grades , in this , as in other matters , reveals the tremendous energy with which hc is accustomed to work . To accumulate the objects 1 was permitted to sec the other evening would , by an ordinary man of means and _ leisure , be considered a sufficient life work . In the present instance

they baie been drawn together from all quarters of the globe by a man whose every hour seems full of business affairs . Apart from any knowledge of , or interest in , Freemasonry , no intelligent man can fail to be struck by the numismatic and bibliographical value of the articles brought together , many of them unique and all of them scientifically arranged , and forming a bird's-eye view of the

history cf Freemasonry . 'I o an outsider , rhe Craft becomes more intelligible , more impressive , and more worthy of respect in the presence of these eloquent witnesses of the immense interest taken in its teaching and ritual by different generations , nationalities , and ranks now passed away , but whose enthusiasm and convictions are here crystallized for

our information , and a record for ages to come , A collection so complete and varied cannot well be estimated pecuniarily , but 1 am informed that experts have valued it at something like two thousand pounds . PECULIAR MASONIC JUBILEE .

NORWALK , Conn ., Feb . 27 , 1 SS 6 . —The Benjamin Isaacs homestead , near this village centre , is the oldest dwelling in Norwalk . In one of its upper rooms , more than a hundred years ago , one of the first Masonic lodges in Connecticut was formed . Masons venerate the building , and upon its site will soon appear a magnificent Masonic temple , to cost 35 , 000 dollais . Much of this money has

been pledged , and to raise the balance the pleasant idea of transferring the old building into a tavern for the time being was this week carried into effect . Each day some prominent citizen has officiated as landlord , and the old rooms havo been made to assume a cheerful and convivial aspect , and huge fires have blazed injthe great open fireplaces . Among the articles of historic interest shown during Ihe

week have been the original apron worn by Benjamin Isaacs , before the Declaration of Independence had been signed , and pewter plates brought to America on the ship Mayflower .
