Master , " said that in Bro . Orwin they had a Master who would carry out the duties of his oflice to their satisfaction , and he asked them to drink his , Bro . Orwin ' s , health , and wish him a prosperous year of office . Bro . Orwin , who was received with cheers , thanked them very much for the kind manner in which they had received the toast of his health . lie could assure them that hc appreciated very deeply indeed the compliment they had

paid him in electing him as Master of their lodge . He had not had an opportunity of thanking them before , because he was unable to be present at the previous meeting , when they did him the honour of electing him to the chair . He felt he was following in thn wake of a most distinguished Mason , one who held a position unique in Masonry by the fact that he had , during his year ot office , filled not only the first chair of that lodge , but also the first chairs in a

Craft Lodge and Royal Arch Chapter , a most distinguished position for any Mason to hold , and of which any Mason might well he proud . He could not emulate Bro . Down , but he would do all hc could to serve the lodge , and to endeavour to prove himself not ungrateful , or unworthy of the position in which they had placed him . It only seemed to be the other day that he joined them , and he only had one regret , and that was that he had not

bcen able to he amongst them so often as he should have liked to have been , and he now thanked them for so kindly overlooking his failing in that respect . The Florence Nightingale Lodge was a grand and distinguished old lodge , and it was only the other day that he was speaking to their Grand Secretary , Bro . Matier , at an encampment of Knights Templar , of which he occupied the chair , about the lodge , and invited Bro . Matier to be present that day . Bro . Matier spoke highly of the lodge

and its excellence , but unfortunately could not attend on account of attending a lodge of Mark Masons at its first meeting after its consecration . He trusted he might rely upon their indulgence , and that they would extend to him the good fellowship that was due from those who were more experienced in the work of the lodge than he himself was . Bros . Jolly , Murdoch , and Farrier severally responded for " The Visitors , " and thanked the lodge not only for its splendid hospitality , b » t for offering them the opportunity of witnessing the grand working of the ceremony by Bro .

Nichols . Bro . Down responded for " The Past Masters , " and Bro . Nichols also thanked the VV . M . for the kind manner in which he had spoken of his services as Installing Officer that day . Anything he could do for the welfare of the lodge he should always feel it a pleasure to do . Bro . Clapham responded for " The Officers , " and Bro . Horton added materially tothe pleasure of the evening by his rendering of a violin solo . Bro . Nichols sang , and Bro . Jolly recited , " and all went merry as a marriage bell . "

Provincial Grand Lodge toasts , expressed his desire to maintain one of the maxims of the Florence Nightingale Lodge as to short speeches , and promised them that however much he might bore them during his year of ollice , he Woulfl not bore them with long speeches . Brn . Morris responded for '' The Provincial Grand Oilicers , Present and Past , " in eloquent terms . Bio . Downs , in proposing the toastof "The Worshipful

Mark Masonry.
