A MOVEMENT has been begun in England against Masonic vagrancy , a subject , which , as stated in The Freemason is notoriously one of the most difficult to cope with , for , like the poor in the Scrip ' ures , the vagrant is always with us , and will be to the end of the chapter . Measures , it is stated , more or less skilfully arranged , have again and again been taken with a view to ridding themselves of his vagal ) md importunities , but wi ' . h no enduring
success . A good deal of proof has been got together to show the impostures which are practised on the charitablyinclined brother and lodge—and which of these are not so It shows that there are many individuals with numbers of aliases and mother lodges of various ages , who go perambulating tbe country and live upon what they manage to extract out of the different Benevolent Funds . A meeting was held in Maidstone , Ktnt , at which there were present
a large number of Lodge Almoners in the Province of Kent and other brethren , and a committee was formed to inquire as to the course pm sued by the different Lodge Almoners throughout the country , and inviting suggestions to be laid before a meeting at an early date . Of course , one cannot expect them to put down the evil altogether , but it may be considerably mitigated . — "The Trowel , " Echo—Glasgow . Shortness of llrealli . CiiiiKhs , : inil Culils . A PUGNACIOUS CRAFTSMAN is at the best an unfortunate exponent of Freemasonry . His quarrelsomeness of disposition crops out on every occasion , and seemingly he is never so thoroughly satisfied with himself as when he is lighting something or somebody . He is always aggressive , ready to ride rough shod ever the opinions o : otler peoplf , a destructive critic , a rude iconoclast , a brother who may
be feared because of his strength of attack , who may perhaps be respected for some positive qualities that stand to his credit , but who can never be greatly loved . If the pugnacious brother wields the pen of a reviewer he is caustc and severe , seemingly caring for n ithing if he can strike out freely and hit somebody in the opposition-Masonic teachings can do but little in softening and
moulding the hard character of such an one . —Freemasons Repository . BRO . F . W . DRIVER M . A ., P . M ., P .
BRO . F . W . DRIVER M . A ., P . M ., P .
