The Grand Festival will be held at Freemasons ' Hall on Wednesday next , when the Grand Officers for the ensuing year will be appointed and invested , and the usual banquet will follow . As a matter of course , rumour has been busily engaged for some time past in circulating reports as to the brethren upon whom his

Royal Highness has been pleaded to confer the purple of Grand Lodge , and it is by no means unlikely that sundry of these reports may prove to be true . However , it is better not to anticipate matters even by a few days , and therefore we reserve the publication of the list of brethren so appointed , and the services they have rendered , until after Grand Festival .

* The Quarterly General Court of the Royal Masonic Institution for Boys will be held in the Great HaU of Freemasons' Tavern to-day ( Friday ) . The chair will be taken punctually at the hour of 12 noon , and when the regular business of the Court has been disposed of

the poll will be opened for the election of 23 from a reduced list of 45 candidates . There will also be the election of a Treasurer for the ensuing year , and of 10 brethren — five London and five Provincial—Life Governors of the Institution , to serve on the Board of Management in place of the 10 who vacate their seats

on the Board in accordance with the Rules and Regulations . For the Treasurership , Bro . C . E . Keyser , P . G . D ., Patron , is the only nomination , and there will be no contest for this office or for the five London vacancies on the Board , for which only five brethren have been nominated : but for the five

Provincial vacancies nine nominations have been made , and recourse will therefore be had to the ballot . The following are the nine nominated , namely : Bros . C . K , Benson , George Corbie , Frederick Levick , Harry Manfield , Edward Margrett , Oliver Papworth , W . H . Spaull , W . Whittley , and William Wright .

The Quarterly General Court of the Royal Masonic Institution for Girls will be held in the great hall of the Freemasons' Tavern to-morrow ( Saturday ) . The chair will be taken punctually at the hour of 12 noon , and when the regular business of the Court has been

despatched , the poll will be opened for the election of 22 from a list of 41 approved candidates . Both on this occasion and at the Boys' School Court the poll will be closed at 3 p . m ., after which hour no votes will be received .

* We make one last appeal to those among our readers who have not promised their votes and influence in support of any particular case or cases , to do all in their power to secure the election of the six . children ¦ two girls and four boys—whose names will be

removed from the lists of candidates if they fail to win places among the successful to-day and to-morrow ( Saturday ) . We need not repeat the reasons we have urged in behalf of all candidates similarly circumstanced for several years . Let it suffice if we state that

the children on the present lists to whom we are referring are : Nos . 9 ( Shropshire ) and 12 ( London ) among the Girl candidates ; and Nos . 11 ( New South Wales , itc ) , 16 ( London ) , 30 ( Northern China and Japan ) , and 32 ( Berkshire ) among the Boys .

We are glad to note that some further progress has been made in obtaining Stewards for the approaching Anniversary Festival in behalf of the Royal Masonic Institution for Girls . Last week the number we announced was in excess of 260 ; this week it has been augmented to between 270 and 280 , so that it looks

very much as if our anticipations of a Board of fully 300 members were in a fair way of being realised . * * * The office of Provincial Grand Master of Lincolnshire , rendered vacant a short while since by the resignation , on the ground of ill-health , of Bro . Major W .

H . Smyth , has been filled by the appointment of the Right Honourable the Earl of Yarborough . We congratulate the Province on the accession to office of one whose family in past days have been closely and prominently associated with the Craft ; at the same time , we offer our respectful sympathy to Bro . Major Smyth on the circumstances which have compelled him to

resign a position he has filled for many years with so much honour to himself , and so greatly to the advantage of the lodges and brethren in Lincolnshire , and we trust he may be spared many years to enjoy in his retirement Ihe esteem and respect which his conduct , as chief of an old and influential Province , has secured him , and to which , therefore , he is so justly entitled .

* We have also great pleasure in announcing that the Provincial Grand Masterships of Worcestershire and Surrey , which were rendered vacant by the lamented deaths of Bros . Sir E . A . H . Lechmere , Bart ., and Colonel Gerard Noel Money , C . B ., have been filled by

the appointment of Bro . A . F . Godson , M . P ., as successor to the former , and by that of Bro . the Earl of Onslow in place of the latter . Bro . Godson has long held a prominent place in Worcestershire Masonry , having been Dep . P . G . M . under the late Sir E . A . Lechmere for many years , and Prov . G . Mark

Master since 1884 . As for the successor to Colonel Money—Bro . the Earl of Onslow—he was appointed S . G . W . of England in 1880 , and when there appeared to be some likelihood that the lodges in New Zealand would prove to be practically unanimous in their movement for establishing a local Grand Lodge , his lordship , who at the time was Governor of the Colony ,

was by the general voice of the Masonic community singled out for thc position of first M . W . G . Master . There is , indeed , little doubt that he would have accepted the office , but the lodges were very far from being unanimous , and the unrecognised Grand Lodge of New Zealand was started by a minority of less than one fourth of the total number of lodges , and without Lord Onslow as its first G . Master .
