Ward , previously balloted for , and afterwards raised Bros . H . A . Dunne and J . Guedalla . The lodge was then closed in solemn form . The ceremonies were discharged by the W . M . in a manner needless of comment , as Bro . Forss is known to be one of the best

workers in Craft Masonry , which will at once account for his continued success in the chair ; also having excellent officers gives a charm to lodge proceedings . The brethren afterwards had refreshments , and spent a long and joyous evening in conviviality . The musical portion , under fhe able superintendence of Bro . Egbert Roberts , J . ancient , though "still growing , " parish of Battersea was almost a waste so far as Freemasonry was concerned , most of the older lodges having removed out of the district into the City or elsewhere . A charter of constitution was granted to Bro . Voisey , P . M ., the present Secretary of the lodge , and under the care of him and his successors , Bros . Vincent and Wilson , the lodge—named by special permission after

one of the most eminent and enlightened members of the Order—has been successful and progressive beyond even the hi g h expectations of his founders . The present W . M ., Bro . Robert Stokoe , was installed on Thursday , the 21 st ult . He has been engaged in educational work in the district for more than a decade , is as well known as respected , especially by the rising generation ,

and therefore we predict for his lodge a still greater career of usefulness and ; Masonic influence . The lodge was opened by Bro . Charles Wilson , the W . M ., who was supported by Bros . Vincent , I . P . M . ; Stokoe , S . W . ; Murchc , J . W . ; Kerry , Treas . ; Voisey , P . M . and Sec . ; G . Gill , J . D . ; Pink , I . G . ; and J . J . White , D . C . After the ' usual routine business , including the very

satisfactory Auditor ' s report , had been concluded , Bro . Robert Stokoe was installed as W . M . by Bro . Wilson , who performed the difficult ceremony in a very impressive and effective manner . All present must have been edified and delighted with the performance of Bro . Wilson , who in his year of office in this lodge "has done all things well . " The new W . M . having invested his officers , proceeded to

try his ' prentice hand on a new candidate for Freemasonry , and Mr . Fawcett was initiated into its mysteries and privileges with an intelligent appreciation of Masonic ritual that augurs well for the coming year . The musical arrangements were carried outmost successfully by a choir consisting of Bros . Horspool , P . M . ; Leonard , F . H . Cozens , R . J . Taylor , P . M . ; and Voisey ,

and the singing of the anthem , " Behold how good and joyful " ( Clarke Whitfield ) left little to be desired . Among the visitors present were Bros . Elgar , 1329 ; Horspool , P . M . 1254 ; Russell , 72 ; R . J . Taylor , P . M . 144 ; W . P . Dukes , P . M . 15 ; Brinton , W . M . 1329 ; Terry , P . M . 507 ; Molony , 60 ( I . ST . MARY ABBOTTS LODGE ( No . 1974 ) - — An emergency meeting was held on Thursday , the nth inst ., at the Town Hall , Kensington , W . There were present Bros . Alfred Williams , W . M . ; Reuben C . Green , S . W . ; D . Shorter Skinner , J . W . ; Rev . C D . Reade , Chaplain ; James Green , Treasurer ; George C . Harding , Secretary ; AlgernonC . Bauke , S . D . ; J . Weaver , Sir Algernon Borthwick , W . Cunningham Glen , A . A . Williamson , Captain Andrews , F . de Beauchamp Strickland , E . C Engelbach , J . C . Lynch , L . H . Isaacs , A . F . Pritchard , H . R . Gill , and H . M . Hartcup . The visitors

were Bros . H . E . Dehane , P . P . G . S . D . Essex ; James Wakeham , 1767 ; VV . B . Liddiard , W . M . 14 , Grand Steward ; G . R . Richards , W . M . S 39 ; and Frank Engelbach , 263 . The lodge was opened at 5 . 40 p . m . The ceremony of raising Bro . F . de Beauchamp Strickland was admirably performed by the W . M . The lodge of emergency was

closed , and the members and visitors afterwards dined together at Bailey ' s Hotel , Gloucester-road . The usual loyal and Masonic toasts having been duly honoured , Bro . Capt . A . Nicols proposed " The Health and Happiness of the W . M ., " observing that it was a great satisfaction to him , as founder of the lodge , to find the members electing successively ever year such zealous and

expert rulers as Bro . Williams had already proved himself to be . The Worshipful Master expressed his sincere thanks , and hoped , with the assistance of his officers , to conduct the work of the lodge during the remainder of his term of office to the satisfaction of the members . At the conclusion of the Worshipful Master's reply , the brethren were practically reminded of one of the great

objects of Freemasonry . The alms box was placed before the Worshipful Master , and circulated before the toast of " The Visitors" was given , in proposing which the W . M . remarked on the unusually small number of their guests , but observed that there were several good , true , and experienced Masters among them , including Bros . H . Dehane , P . P . G . S . D . Essex ; W . B . Liddiard , Grand Steward ; and

J . Wakeham . With regard to Bro . Liddiard he wished to remind the brethren that in another place , viz ., in the Tuscan Lodge , No . 14 , he was his Master , and an excellent Master ; too , under whom ; to serve as Warden was an honour . Bro . Dehane briefly thanked the brethren for their hospitality , and complimented the W . M . on his impressive

rendering of the ceremony , and strongly advised the officers aspiring to the chair to endeavour to follow in his footsteps , and thereby keep up the prestige of the lodge . Bro . Liddiard followed , and said that discipline was the mainspring of the Order , and he would return thanks for himself as Worshipful Master of a lodge of over one hundred and fifty years' standing , which did its work according

to the old traditions , and did its best to extend hospitality , as well as instruction ; but when he visited a young lodge like Saint Mary Abbotts , and heard the work done as it had been that evening , he began to doubt whether the hundred and odd years of existence had added more to the renown of the Tuscan Lodsre than the few years had to the

one he was that evening visiting . Bro . Alfred Williams , as one of the Wardens of No . 14 , rendered him great assistance , and he felt sure that neither the Tuscan nor any other lodge could do the work better than it was done in the Saint Mary Abbotts . Bro . Captain Nicols replied to the toast of " The Past Masters , " thanking the brethren for the hearty way in which it had been received . He said that only a few days ago he had heard from Bro . Captain Compton , the I . P . M .,

who now resided far away in Dorsetshire , where it seemed that his rank in the Craft and his genial manner had made him a Masonic favourite , for towards the end oE his letter he observed : " I have become so skilled in replying to the toast of my health , that I regret not being able to attend the lodge on Thursday next . " Bro . Captain Nicols concluded by saying that , though he would very soon have to take a back seat on the bench of Past Masters , his best

services would always be at the disposal of the lodge . Bro . Reuben Green , S . W ., answered for " The Officers , " who , he said , were simply discharging a very pleasant duty , and he , for his part , looked forward to occupying the Master ' s chair , after steadily working up for it . The Tyler ' s toast concluded a pleasant evening , which was enlivened by some excellent music , and a selection of amusing songs by Bro . Engelbach , rendered in his own inimitable style .

STONEHOUSE . —Sincerity Lodge ( No . 18 9 ) . —At a meeting of this lodge on Tuesday evening , the 8 th inst ., Bro . J . Prout was elected W . M . for the ensuing year , in succession to Bro . George Hawken . Bro . T . Bayly , P . M ., P . P . G . Treas ., was unanimously re-elected Treasurer . A special resolution was passed , on the motion of Bro . C . Croydon , thanking Bro . R . H . Rae , P . M ., Sec , P . P . G . A .

D . C , for the able and indefatigable manner in which he had carried out the duties of Secretary for a considerable number of years , and the warm interest he showed in the welfare of the lodge . The brethren a / so shower ] their appreciation of his abilities and the respect and esteem in which he was held by the brethren . The installation will take place on the 13 th proximo , and the banquet at Farley's Hotel .

HUDDERSFIELD . —Lodge of Truth ( No . 521 ) . —The regular meeting was held on Friday , the 5 th inst ., at the Freemasons' Hall , Fitz William-street . Lodge opened at 6 . 10 , by the W . M ., Bro . J . W . Turner , and the following officers : Bros . Abm . Armitage , S . W . ; Abm . Graham , J . W . ; las . Brierley , Treas . ; H . W . Wrigley , P . M ., for J . E . Cooper , Sec . ; Jas . Ecdes , S . D . ;

Humphrey Wood , l . G . j Henry Shaw , P . M ., acting as Tyler by request of the W . M . The minutes of the previous regular lodge meeting having been read and confirmed , the ballot was taken for Mr . F . S . Wilkinson and Mr . J . Lancaster , and being favourable , they were initiated into the mysteries of Freemasonry by the W . M . and Bro . Allan Jackson . P . M .. P . P . G . I . D .

Bro . Herman Field having answered the test questions , was passed to the Degree of F . C by Bro . VV . H . Jessop , P . M ., in his usual careful and impressive manner . Bro . Thomas Harrison , answering the test questions leading to the Third Degree in a satisfactory manner , was entrusted and raised to the Sublime Degree of a M . M . by Bro . Joseph Varley , P . M ., the traditional history being given

and working tools presented and explained by Bro . George Marshall , P . M . It is needless to say every ceremony was well and impressively rendered . " Hearty good wishes " were given by several visiting brethren . The W . M . instructed the Secretary to send a letter of condolence to a member of the lodge on the severe bereavement he had sustained by the death of his wife .

Business being completed , the lodge was closed , and the brethren adjourned to the supper reom , and after a substantial repast , the usual loyal and Masonic toasts were proposed and responded to . In ( proposing "The Provincial Grand Lodge , " the W . M . called attention to the small number of Provincial Grand Officers the lodge had been favoured with during

the last ten years , and from such a strong lodge he did not consider they got their fair share of provincial honours , but he trusted next year to seeing Bro . Geo . Marshall , P . M ., elected Provincial Grand Treasurer , remarking that there was not a brother in the province more worthy of it , or who could fill the position with greater credit or honour to the Craft .

These sentiments were thoroughly endersed by every brother present . Bro . Allen Jackson , P . M ., P . P . G . J . D ., in responding to the toast , said he quite endorsed the expressions of the W . M ., and he had long thought the Lodge of Truth had not had its share of provincial honours ; he would be very glad to see more Provincial Grand Officers appointed from

the lodge , who would attend the meetings , and not let him almost every month have to respond to this toast . The evening was enlivened by songs excellently rendered from Bros . Joseph Varley , Allen Jackson , I . A . Woolven , J . B . Matthewman , Jno . Shoesmith , and others . Bro . Ben . Walker presided at the piano . On the brethren separating each'and all expressed their pleasure at having been present .

W ., was impressively installed W . M . by Bro . Dr . Gourley , J . P ., P . M ., P . P . G . S . W . At the conclusion of the ceremony the new

W . M . chose as his officers Bros . J . F . Wilson , S . W . ; H . B . Olsen , J . W . ; H . Lamb , Sec ; G . T . Reay , S . D . ; W . Hodge , J . D . ; J . E . T . Hurvvortb , Org . ; E . Clennett , l . G . ; T . H . Simpson , S . S . ; and Robert Medd , J . D . Bro . Edward Hudson was the Director of Ceremonies . At the close of the business the brethren adjourned to the Royal Hotel , where a banquet was served by host C . Cabry .

LIVERPOOL . —United Service Lodge ( No . 786 ) . —The annual installation meeting of the above lodge which happily embraces members who are closely identified with the auxiliary forces , as well as those who are outside the ranks of our " citizen soldiers , " was held at the Masonic Hall , Hope-street , on Thursday , the nth inst ., when Bro . W . H . Tyerman , W . M ., took the chair ,

supported by Bros . W . T . Smith , I . P . M . ; P . B . Deuchar , P . M . ; Dr . F . J . Barley , P . P . G . S . D . ; Capt . W . J . Newman , P . P . G . R . ; Lieut . C Wise , P . M . ; E . The spacious hall was then prepared as a banqueting saloon , and after the necessary interval the brethren sat down to a well and plentifully served

supper , in the preparation and serving of which Bro . Youens greatly distinguished himself . The usual toasts followed and were all heartily honoured , and as usual in this lodge harmony prevailed , Bro . Sherwin again proving an able and obliging [ accompanist . Bros . T . Clark , W . M . 117 S ; H . J . Cant , W . M . 1 S 16 ; G . H . Stephens , W . M . 1623 ; and W . T . Mimms , J . W . 1 G 04 , duly responded for the large number of visiting brethren .

J . D . ; Sydney Pitt , D . C . ; C . W . Stephens , l . G . ; William Beavis , Steward ; Thomas Friend , Tyler ; Captain A . Nicols , P . M ., P . G . D . Supt . of Wks . Punjab ; W .
