At length we are in what it is the fashion to call " measurable distance " of the last great anniversary Festival of the year , which will take place at the Pavilion , Brighton , on Wednesday next , the 24 th inst ., under the presidency of Bro . His Grace the Duke of

Devonshire , Lord President of the Council , Prov . G . Master for Derbyshire . The Board of Stewards is probably not as strong as the majority of those that have been organised by Bro . Secretary McLeod , but it comprises already about 480 ladies and brethren and doubtless before the actual day arrives will have

reached 500 . The outlook is also promising , and we have all reasonable confidence that next week it will be our privilege to record that the third great Festival of the year , like its predecessors , has been a great success , resulting in a total of donations and subscriptions sufficient to make good the year ' s deficiency of income and allow of a further increase of the invested capital .

Masonic Notes.

As for the arrangements , we described them last week , but it will be as well if we repeat that the Special Trains which the London , Brighton , and South Coast Railway Company have arranged to provide for the Stewards and their friends will leave Victoria at 11 a . m . and London Bridge at 1 . 35 p . m ., and return

from Brighton , for both Victoria and London Bridge , at 9 . 15 p . m ., calling both on the out and home journeys at Clapham Junction and East Croydon . Those who may miss the' specials to Brighton will be allowed to travel by the 11 . 40 a . m . ( Victoria ) , and 1 . 50 p . m . ( London Bridge ) , while tickets for a limited number

will be issued for the 3 . 50 p . m . from Victoria and 4 p . m . from London Bridge . The return tickets will be available for any oi the ordinary trains on Thursday or Friday , without extra charge , and by any such train on Saturday , S-inday , or Monday on payment of an extra charge of 2 s . at the Brighton Booking Office .

The whole of the Royal Pavilion and its lawns have been engaged for the day . Dinner will be served in the Dome at 5 . 30 p . m ., while , as regards the Musical Arrangements , the London Military Band will play on the Eastern Lawn from 3 to 5 . 15 p . m ., and an orchestral band will play in the Dome from 5 p . m . and during dinner , and on the Eastern Lawn from 7 to

8 . 30 p . m . Stewards will have the further satisfaction of being able to enjoy the performances on the Lawns in privacy , as the Corporation have agreed to close them to the public from 2 to 8 p . m . For any further information we must refer our readers to the Hon . Secretary , Bro . McLeod , who will advise them on all points which we have omitted to refer to .

* * * Speech Day and the Distribution of Prizes , which form a part of the annual proceedings in connection with the Festival , will take place in the Great Hall of the Institution , Wood Green , on the day previous—Tuesday , the 23 rd instant , at 3 p . m . The prizes will be

distributed by her Grace the Duchess of Devonshire , who will no doubt be accompanied by the Duke . Trains run at frequent intervals from King ' s Cross to Wood Green so that there will be no difficulty on the part of the Stewards and their friends in attending this function . However , those who may be doubtful as to any points should consult Bro . McLeod .

* * * The Annual Sports of the Institution which were held on Saturday last at Kempton Park passed off admirably . There was a good programme of sport , in which the boys showed themselves to have been

well-trained , and in the intervals there was plenty ot good music discoursed by the band of the T . Division of the Metropolitan Police . Morever , there was dancing in the Pavilion from 6 . 30 p . m . till the time drew near for the return journey .

A meeting of the Provincial Grand Lodge for London and . the Metropolitan Counties ol the Royal Order of Scotland will be held at 33 , Golden-square , on Friday , the 3 rd July , at 5 p . m . precisely , under Bro . the Earl of Euston , Prov . G . M . The business

M will include the advancemsnt and promotion of approved candidates and the appointment and investiture of Prov . Grand Officers for the ensuing year , The banquet will take place at the Grafton Rooms , 7 , Beek-street , at 7 , 30 p . m . ; tickets , 21 s . each .

* The next regular meeting of Lodge Quatuor Coronati , No . 2076 , will be held at Freemasons' Hall , on Wednesday , the 24 th instant . The business will include election of members of the Correspondence Circle and the ballot for Bros . G . Greiner , P . M . No . 92 ; the Rev . 1 . William Horsley , M . A . Oxon , Lodge No . 197-1 ; and

the Rev . C . H . Maiden , M . A . Cambridge , Lodge No . 2579 . Bro . S . T . Klein will subsequentl y read a paper , entitled "The Law of Dakhiel and other Curious Customs of the Bedowin . " The annual excursionwhich will this year be into Shakespeare ' s country— - will commence to-day ( Friday ) and last till Sunday , the 2 ist instant .

» ¦* # We understand that at the request of many Masonic friends Bro . William Pile , Past Master of several local lodges and M . E . Z . of the Lome Chapter , has consented to his name being put forward as a candidate for the office of Provincial Grand Treasurer at

the annual meeting of the Provincial Grand Lodge of Surrey , which will be held at Kingston on July 22 nd . Bro . Pile will be supported by the outgoing Treasurer , and by the representatives of all the local lodges and chapters , a strong Committee having been formed to promote his election .
