The procession was formed as follows : 1 he
unattached brethren , Union Lodge , Peace and Harmony Lodge , Charles Warren Lod ^ e , Athole Lodt ; e , Cosmopolitan Lodge , the band , a porlion of the Richard Giddy Lodge , the hearse and the other portion of the Richard Giddy Lodge , with the chief mourners and the general public . Quite a large and imposing procession it looked as it crossed Ihe Market-square . Halting
opposite St . Cyprian ' s Church , the coffin was carried in by the same bearers , followed closely by Bro . G . Richards , P . M ., the relatives and fiiends , and placed upon a bier in front of the Chancel , when a short but impressive address was delivered by the Rev . Canon Gaul , and a short choral service was held . The procession then re-formed and proceeded to the Old Cemetery , at a slow march , the band
playing the Dead March , and Canon Gaul accompanying . At the cemetery gates the cortege halted , and . opening out , formed tno ranks , the cnffii being- * carried between , the followers wheeling in behind as it passed up , and so proceeded tn the giave . The procession was thus reversed . At the grave the Rev . Canon Gaul delivered another address , and the service was read , after which
Bro . G . Richards , P . M ., conduced the Masonic funeral rites , when every broihtr present , each of whom had carried a small branch of acacia , threw it into the grave on to the coffin . This concluded the ceremony , and the procession marched back to Camp . We heartily condole with the grieving friends who are left to mourn Bro . We are sorry to chronicle the death of Bro . George Tonkin who was admitted into Freemasonry on September 4 th , 1 S 72 , in 326 , Bristol . He was advanced to the honourable degree of Mailc Master in March , 1873 , in No . 119 , and received the Degree of Royal Ark Mariner in the Irwin Lodge attached thereto in the following April . Our late brother was installed a Knight of Rome and of the
Red Cross in December , 1 S 73 , in conclave No . 17 , William de Irwin , and entered into the solemn engagements of a K . H . S ., and Knight of St . John the Evangelist in the Mount Tabor Sanctuary in connect ! m therewith , in April , 1 S 74 . 'Ihe deceased was exalted to the Royal Arch in the chapter attached to 1 S 7 , but of this event we have no date , and Junesoth , 1 S 74 , he was appointed by the P . G . M .,
fhe R . W . the Earl of ( arnarvon , Assistant Secretary to the Prov . Grand Mark Lodge of Somerset . Bro . Tonkin died at Clifton , on Wednesday , August 4 th , of hsemorrage , aged 44 years , and was interred at Arno ' s Vale Cemetery , on Sunday last , when the Fraternity were represtnted . Business circumstances and ill health prevented our departed brother from taking an active interest in Masonry recently .

On Thursday , the nth instant , at the lodge at South Shields , Lieuenant Woo , of the Imperial Chinese Navy ( Flag Lieutenant to Bro . Lang , Admiral of the Chinese Fleet ) , met with a cordial reception , and W 3 S initialed into
Masonry in the presence of 200 brethren , the ceremonies being conducted most impressively by the Worshipful Master , after which 105 brethren sat down to a banquet , including five officers of the Chinese cruisers at Newcastle . After the usual loyal and Masonic toasts , the W . M . proposed "The Health of Bro . Woo , " with the warmest expressions both for him , his brother officers , and country .
Bro . Woo in responding in beauiiful and eloquent hnglish —then in Chinese—expressed in grateful terms his reception into Masonry , the principles of which he very much admired , and in which he should take an interes , and should take with him to China a pleasing reminiscence of the kindness and hospitality he had received from his English brethren , and hopedjj'that the grand principles' * of
Masonry would increase , and strengthen the ties between the two great Empires of England and China . ( Cheers ) . Bro . G . Z . ) There were great doings in Dunedin , in which the brethren of Octago played the chief pari , on Saturday , the 26 th March last , when the foundation stone of a statue to the memory of Bro . Robert Burns , ihe great national poet of Scotland , was laid with Masonic ceremonial by Bro . Gore , Dist . D . G . M ., under the Scottish Constitutions ,
assisted by Bro . T . S . Graham , Dist . G . M ., under the Grand Lodge of England ; the S . G . M . and Wardens ( S . C ); the Dist . G . Wardens ( E . G . ); the representatives of the Prov . G . Lodge ( 1 C . ); and in the presence of a numerous gathering of the members of lodges of all three systems , as well as of the Fcre .-ters , Druids , Odd Fellows
and others , while the spectators who had assembled from all parts were from 7000 to Sooo in number . The ceremony was very appropriately carried out and a long address was delivered by Dr . GRAND COMMANDERY OF KENTUCKY . There was a numerous attendance at the 40 th annual Conclave in Danville , on the 18 th and 19 th May last , of the Grand Commandery of Kentucky . Seventeen subordinate Commanderies were represented , and there were several distinguished fratres present among the visitors . Sir Knight John S . Lyle , G . C , who was well supported by his
Grand Officers , presided , and delivered thc usual address , which , however , appears to have been entirely of local interest . P ., presided at the 33 rd annual convocation of the Grand Koyal Arch Chapter of California , held at San Francisco towards the close of April , the number of chapters represented being 52 , of which 50 were warranted and two under dispensation .
