The ceremony of installation was most impressively performed by Bro . A . C . Knowles , P . P . G . D . Durham , after
which the newly-elected W . M . invested the following officers for the ensuing year : Bros . H . Warrior , l . P . M . ; T . Russell , S . W . ; W . Bell , J . W . ; C Waistell , P . Afterwards the brethren adjourned to the assembly room of the Golden Lion Hotel , where the annual banquet was held , the newly-installed W . M . presiding , while Bro , Thos . Russell , S . W ., was Vice-Chairman . Several Masonic toasts were drunk , the Chairman proposing "The Health of her Most Gracious Majesty the Queen and the Craft , " vvhich was duly honoured . He then submitted "The
Prince of VVales , Grand Master of England , and other members of the Royal Family , " vvhich was drunk in tiue Masonic style . On the proposition of P . M . Waistell , "The Health of the Right Hon . the Earl of Carnarvon and the Right Hon . the Earl of Lathom " was duly honoured , after which , on the motion of Bro . R . Sootheran , P . M ., the toast of "The
Right Hon . the Earl of Zetland , Prov . Grand Master of North and East Yorkshire , " was drunk in a bumper . Bro . Warrior , I . P . M ., gave "The Healthof the Hon . W . T . Orde-Powlett , Deputy Prov . Grand Master of North and East Riding , " to vvhich Bro . J . Fairburn responded in an able speech . The Installing Masfer then submitted "The W . M . of
the Anchor Lodge , and Prospeuty to the Lodge , to which Bro . Winn replied , and said he thanked them for the very kind manner in vvhich they had received the toast . lt would be his endeavour to conduct the business of the Anchor Lodge in the best possible manner . He knew that he had a herculean task set before him , considering the many able Past Masters who had succeeded him , but he
could honestly tell them that no one should equal him in his zeal to carry on the lodge to the best of his ability , and to do the work of the lodge as it ought to be done . He hoped they would all have a prosperous and happy new year . He had been particularly pleased with the unanimous way in which his officers had accepted office when he selected them , for he had not had a single retusal . He
had now to submit to them a most important toast , vvhich was " The Health of the Installing Master , Bro . A . C . Knowles , P . P . D . G . C" They were very much indebted to Bro . Knowles for his kindness in coming there that day , seeing that he had been ill for a considerable time , but Bro . Knowles had evidently resolved that nothing should stop him from doing his duty , for ever since the foundation
of the Anchor Lodge Bro . Knowles had installed all their Worshi pful Masters . The toast having been drunk in a bumper , Bro . Knowles said he sincerely thanked them for their kind feelings , and the complimentary way in which Bro . Winn has spoken of his seivices to the Anchor Lodge . It had been a great pleasure to him during the past
years to come and do his duty to them . He had no pretensions to high class Masonry , for in these modern days of School Boards , and of lectures and philosophies , new exponents of Masonry had arisen , but he was an oldConservativeand stuck to theold landmarks and customs . It had been his privilege to reside in Northallerton for 17 years , and he was very thankful indeed that the Great Architect of the
Universe had spared him so long to take such an important part in the working of their lodge . Great changes had taken place in families and in communities , but there was one thing which had never changed , and that was their friendshi p towards him . He hoped that themight bespared to come again , for he enjoyed the kindly and friendly spirit which they displayed towards him , vvhich was borne of freemasonry . He had often found that the most genuine
friendshi p was tj be found amongst what he might call the lower strata of society , for he had seen instances of kindness and generosity , and genuine brotherly love amongst people whom they would never have thought of if it had not been seen . In conclusion , he said that he had "ever installed a more worthy brother as W . M . of the Anchor Lod ge than Bro . Winn . P ° . S . Jacob , W . M , of the De Grey andJRipon Lodge ,

then submitted " The Health of the I . P . M ., Bro . Warrior . " In an interesting and eloquent speech he pointed out the duty of an Immediate Past Master , and said that he hoped there were none in the Anchor Lodge who desired to get to the degree of I . P . M ., or to wear the purple , and then retire . He wished not to be disdisrespectful to Bro . Warrior , whose name he had to couple
vvith the toast of the l . P . M ., as he only wished to point out that the office of Immediate Past Master was one of the greatest honours any lodge could bestow on a member . Bro . Wariior , l . P . M ., replied , and said that the W . M . of the Anchor Lodge and the year terminated together , but he hoped it would not be long before he was resurrected . He trusted the new year would be a happy and a
prosperous one for Bro . Winn and every member of the lodge . Bro . R . H . Sootheran , P . M ., said he had intended being present at the installation that afternoon , but business had detained him . He had , however , to ask Bro . Winn to accept , on behalf of the lodge , an old oak chair , vvhich was lent by him when the last Provincial Grand Lodge was held at Northallerton , and in vvhich their R . W . Prov .
Grand Master , the Rt . Hon . the Earl of Zetland sat . The chair bore the date 1637 carved on it . The Worshipful Master thanked Bro . Sootheran for his handsome gift , vvhich he had great pleasure in accepting as a Master's chair , on behalf of the officers and members of the Anchor Lodge It afforded him the greatest possible pleasure to ask them to give lo Bro . Sootheran their most
hearty thanks for his magnificent present . The vote was carried in a true Masonic manner . Bro . R . S . Palliser submitted , " The Visiting Brethren . " The brethren of the Anchor Lodge were very grateful to the large number of visitors who had been present at their installation banquet that day , while they were always glad on their lodge nights to be favoured with a visit from the
brethren of the lodges round about . He was sorry to miss the kindly face of Bro . Wilkinson , of Thirsk , while Bro . Hunton had gone to his long home . The toait was drunk with much heartiness . Bro . the Rev . E . L . Marrett , P . P . G . C , responded , and thanked them for the kind reception they had given him at Northallerton on his first appearance amongst them . He
knew of no society which extended so treely the hand of fellowship to strangers as Freemasons , while there was more brotherly love and concord amongst Masonic lodges than they would find amongst any other society in the world . Bro . Tupman , l . P . M . S 37 , also replied , and thanked the W . M . and the other officers of the Anchor Lodge for the hearty way in which they had honoured the toast .
Bro . Z . Wright , P . M . 1416 , said , although he was last , and because he was the least of the visitors who were responding , yet he wished to say that he was not the least in importance . He well remembered the last occasion he paid a visit to , the Northallerton Lodge , for by chance the whole of the Falcon members got to York instead of to Thirsk . It was always a pleasure to the brethren of the Falcon
Lodge to return the neighbourly and friendly visits made by the officers and members of the Anchor Lodge . Bro . G . Ayre then proposed " 1 he Officers of the Anchor Lodge . " He said he had known their present W . M . ever since Freemasonry had been introduced into Thirsk , and their brethren at Northallerton had ever been ready to lend them any assistance they required .
Bro . T . Russell , S . W ., responded , and said that every officer in the lodge had determined to do the best he could to support their newly-installed W . M ., so as to ensure them naving a happy and prosperous year . Bro . W . Bell , J . W ., also replied , and said that all the officers of the lodge would be punctual in their attendance . Bro . VV . Bell then submitted " The Ladies " in an amusing speech .
Bro . Russell , S . W ., responded , and said , although he was not as yet honoured with a commission in the petticoat regiment , yet he hoped soon to be able to copy the example of two members ot the Anchor Lodge who had recently married . The Tyler ' s toast terminated the toast list . The harmony of the evening was capitally maintained by several brethren present . Bro . G . J . Robinson made a firstclass Director of Ceremonies .

The ceremony of installation was most ably and impressively performed by the retiring W . M ., Bro . Charles G .
Purkis , P . M ., P . P . G . Purst . Dorset , who was so efficiently assisted by his officers as to call forth a very high tribute of praise from the D . P . G . M ., Bro . Brymer , who considered that the work of the lodge on that occasion was rarely equalled , and certainly never excelled , by any other lodge in the provinces . The first duty of the newly-installed VV . M . was a very graceful one , viz ., to present Bro . Purkis ,
in ths name of the lodge , with a miniature P . M . s jewel in gold , as a small token of recognition of the services rendered by him to the Craft in general , and the Beaminster Manor Lodge in particular , not only during the past year , but also during a previous term of office . The W . M . also preferred a hearty welcome to the D . P . G . M ., on his first visit to No . 1367 , to which Bro . Brymer replied in suitable
terms . On the proposition of Bro . S . R . Baskett , P . M ., P . P . G . Reg .
